The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach slow cooker model-33156RG series-J4832DJ
The two heating elements on the bottom of the slow cooker are the same length as the three legs that hold the pot up. The heating elements burned two holes all the way through a plastic cutting mat. If the unit had been sitting on any type of flammable surface it may have caused a fire.

The product, in the report: slow cooker ([REDACTED])
The consumer cooked some food in the slow cooker. Another person in the home was eating some of the chili that was cooked in the product, and she bit down on the bolt that was attached to the underside of the lid. Food side! That person was not injured, but could have been.
The bolt screws into the knob on the glass lid of the slow cooker. Underside.
The consumer said this is a definite choking hazard and could be deadly.
The consumer called the firm numerous times, but could not reach a live rep.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach slow cooker
We have a model 33156SZ Hamilton Beach slow cooker. While my wife was cooking a pork roast the glass lid literally exploded sending shards of glass all over the counter and floor. Naturally a $20 roast was ruined. We were lucky that was the worst part. At least no one was standing by it when it happened. You should seriously consider recalling this dangerous product.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Model 33866 Portable 6-Quart Set & Forget Digital Programmable Slow Cooker with Lid Lock, Temp Tracking Temperature Probe, Black Stainless
The screw that holds the center of the handle of the lid of my Hamilton Beach Programmable Slow Cooker apparently fell into the food I was cooking. I did not notice this when serving, as the food was dense and was scooped into a bowl and sent with my family member to his home. In addition, the handle on the lid is also secured by 2 rivets at either end, so I did not notice that it was loose. A family member nearly choked on the screw when eating the food.

No one hurt Made Nov 26, 2020, sent to the company Dec 17, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 5, 2021
The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker (Black), Oval shape (long axis = 14”; small axis = 11.5”). It was a present.
Our relatively new & hardly used Hamilton Beach slow cooker (Model #33195; Series: H3391DJ) had a short at the entry point through the bottom, which produced a BIG spark near my daughter’s face & long hair, as she leaned over the slow cooker. A small fire followed that melted the outside wire’s insulation at various points along the chord, all the way to the electric outlet. It also burned a spot on the electric outlet & on our wooden table top, but no one got hurt. We had the setting in low to keep our Thanksgiving ham warm. I opened the slow cooker’s shell & discovered that the wire connections were only covered by a small tube that easily slides in either direction. I just sent a complaint to Hamilton Beach, but am concerned that the inside insulating tubes on this model are not secured & slide so easily off, exposing the electric connections. We also still need to have the house wiring & outlet inspected to see if the house wiring suffered any additional damage.

The product, in the report: Pioneer Woman Crockpot
My wife had used the Pioneer Woman Crockpot made by Hamilton Beach earlier in the day. It had cooled off and as she started to washing the glass top of the pot it shattered causing pieces to fly into her face and eyes. Her glasses protected her eyes and fortunately no glass embedded in her face. This is a safety issue with Pioneer Woman cookware. There has been other safety issues with other items manufactured for this company too.

The product, in the report: Slow Cooker. 8 quart crock pot
Last Friday I cooked a pork roast the other day. I noticed some condensation on the outside of the cooker but didn’t think much about it with how humid it is. Later that night, after letting it cool down several hours and wiping it down like normal, I started a batch of bone broth. The next morning I realized the outside of the cooker was burned and my counter top warped under where it was sitting. The bottom edge of the cooker at the same spot as my counter warped also shows bubbling in the metal skin.

The product, in the report: slow cooker
I received the Hamilton Beach Set n’ Forget Programmable 6 Qt Slow Cooker for Christmas and used it for the 1st time yesterday. I went to stir the contents and noticed that the crock doesn’t fit well and moves around inside the base. I grabbed the handle to hold it in place and as I stirred and came in contact with something that burned one of my fingers. It was aluminum lip at the top of the base. On my other slow cookers the crock extends over this so it isn’t exposed. This one doesn’t. I’ve never had to handle a crock pot with an oven mit while cooking something and will definitely not ever serve anything directly from the crock pot. It poses a risk to anyone unknowingly coming in contact with that part of the base and is not safe product. If I am able to return it I will.

We spent several hours trying to clean up all the little pieces of glass as well as pick a piece of glass out of my hand. We have pictures as well as the crock pot this was only the second time it was used. There was over $80. In food in the crocknpot that had to thrown in the trash

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 15, 2016, sent to the company Feb 23, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 8, 2016
The product, in the report: 6 quart programmable slow cooker
I bought my Hamilton-Beach slow-cooker 12/18/2016 at Wal-Mart in Concord, NC at their Concord Commons store. The CPC bar code number: 40094 33963 The box described it as a 275 watt cooker, type SC26 made in China.
I used it without incident according to the instructions 3 times. The 4th time, the ceramic pot cracked around the entire oval circumference of the shell and the bottom separated from the pot in one piece. I cut my finger slightly pulling the two big sharp ceramic pieces out of the metal shell. More importantly, under other circumstances, I might have cut myself very badly. I might also have burned myself badly. The leaking food juices might or might not have shorted out the electrical heater element in the metal shell (I don’t know how well protected they are from liquids).
Sequence of events: The ceramic pot appeared OK when I went to use it although I cannot rule out the existence of a possible unseen crack. It was clean and at room temperature. I poured into it the contents of a large casserole dish of cold meat, beans and vegetables I’d just taken out of the refrigerator; this just about filled the pot. I then ladled four small, drained, chopped, boiled onions on the top of the these other contents and mixed everything with a metal spatula. The slow cooker was completely full. Several minutes later, I went to plug in the appliance but I noticed brown juice flowing out the bottom. I opened it up and found the problem I described above. I did not plug in the appliance.
I took pictures. I have also saved the pieces for inspection. I’m an engineer with a little knowledge of glass and ceramics. I think this was a brittle fracture. There was a thermal gradient between the large mass of cold food and the small amount of hot onions on top, but I believe mixing the onions ingredients quickly reduced any gradient. The mixing I did was fairly gentle and I did not scrape the pot - I lifted the ingredients up from the bottom several times.
Whatever I did to cause this was well within the operating envelope one would expect for such an appliance -- most people are probably rougher with stuff.
This should be investigated as a hazard to users and a recall considered.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach slow cooker/crockpot 7 qt. red color. Oval shape
I was cooking stew in my Hamilton Beach crockpot/slow cooker. It had meat, carrots, potatoes and sauce inside. The sauce went about 2/3 of the way to the top. It was cooking on the high setting. It’d been cooking about 2 1/2 hours out of the recipe-suggested 6-7 hours. My fiancé and I were in the living room and heard a noise come from the direction of the kitchen. It was kind of like a pop or like something had fallen down. We went to the kitchen to see what it was and eventually looked at the crockpot. The lid looked like it had condensation on the inside which I thought was weird. I had checked on it may 15-20 minutes earlier and everything looked fine/normal. My fiancé lifted the lid and only the black kid knob moved. It broke off the rest of the lid. That’s when I realized that what we had thought was condensation on the lid was actually cracks/fractures. I put the lid in the trash can, along with my stew (since I was afraid glass had gotten into it).

I was using a Hamilton Beach slow cooker type SC52 model 33453. I placed two frozen chicken breasts in it and set it for low cook for 8 hrs. I was standing next to it doing dishes as it was on the kitchen counter. It was approx 2 hours into the cook time and the glass lid exploded sending small pieces of glass every where. Wow.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Stay or Go® 7 Quart Portable Slow Cooker Model 33472
This concerns a Hamilton Beach slow cooker, model 33472.
We have owned this for about 5 months, and have used it about 20 times without incident until now.
We made some rice pudding overnight in the slow cooker, cooking on the “low” setting. In the morning, my daughter opened the lid, placing it vertical on the plastic hinge, and began serving it into bowls. After about 10 seconds, the lid shattered into 1/8” fragments (approximately), scattering pieces up to several feet away.
The room temp was 67 degrees.
We didn’t note any cracks or other imperfections prior to use. We can’t think of an incident where the lid would have been abused.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Set ‘n’ Forget Programmable 6-Quart Slow Cooker, model 33967A. Stainless steel oval slow cooker with black removable pot and glass lid with temperature probe.
On Sunday, 10 May 2015, my husband prepared a pork roast in our 1-year-old Hamilton Beach Set ‘n’ Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker. We were not using the probe, and the lid clamps were locked. After it had been cooking undisturbed on the kitchen counter for approximately 6 hours, on the “low” setting, I discovered that the lid had completely shattered. The pieces had not fallen into the pot, but after my husband very carefully removed the lid from the pot by grasping it by the outer rim, the pieces did finally fall away onto the kitchen counter. Out of caution, we did not eat the roast. Today, 11 May 2015, I ordered a replacement lid from Hamilton Beach’s website.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker, red floral.
I was using my Hamilton Beach slow cooker (model 33353) to cook a roast. The roast had been cooking for several hours on low when I heard a sudden pop. I went to see what happened and the lid was shattered. When I tried to lift the lid carefully, all the shattered glass went into the pot and I was left with only the handle in my hands. This of course ruined the roast. No injuries were sustained (luckily). I want to add that the lid was in perfect condition and I had never had any problem with this [slow cooker] before. I had no warning that this could potentially happen. I have 4 small children at home and am very concerned that this could happen again with a similar product.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker- plain metal finish. Two carrying handles. 5 quart capacity.
I have a Hamilton Beach-brand slow cooker, model 33156SZ. I conducted slow-cooking for approximately 2 cups (soaked) of garbanzo beans, at low heat, over a period of six hours. I left the slow cooker for that period of time, on “low” heat and with five cups of water for the two cups of beans. I went to check the slow cooker after that time, and found that the lid had fragmented. A hole, approximately two inches in diameter, had opened in the lid, and several shards of glass had fallen into the beans. Very small shards of glass had fallen on the counter.
I could not lift the lid by the handle, as the handle came detached from the lid. I had to remove the lid by holding the edges.
Neither myself nor anyone else was injured in this incident. The slow cooker had been on a “low” setting for six hours, and approximately 2 inches of water remained above the beans at the time of my checking the slow cooker. The beans were, however, ruined.

The product, in the report: Hamilton beach [slow cooker], “set and forget” 33967
I had a Hamilton Beach [slow cooker], the “set and forget” 33967. I had it for five years, and hadn’t had any problems, until yesterday. It had been set on high, for four hours, to cook a broth. My husband was home at this time, and with in a 30 minute period, it went from “just fine” to explosion of broth all over the kitchen. First of all, the lid was not clamped down, so there was no reason for it to explode due to pressure. Second, I was cooking the broth in four hour increments, because I am cautious. According to my husband, it started beeping, didn’t stop beeping, and when he came in to see why, it was frothing over with extreme heat. He managed to unplug it without burning himself. Now why, when this [slow cooker] started to malfunction, would it lock into an extreme heat, unlike anything we’d ever seen before? Why wouldn’t it just shut off? The broth managed to hit items 2 feet away, which is quite unlike anything I’ve ever heard off. We’ve gotten a new [slow cooker]. I will never buy anything by Hamilton Beach again.

When I was using the Hamilton Beach Crock Pot today, the lid shattered as my food was cooking. I grabbed the lid by the handle and the handle broke off from the rest of the glass, leaving the rest of the glass shattered and falling into my food that was cooking. I had to throw away my food because there was glass in it. I hadn’t hit the lid on any hard surfaces or messed with it at all while the food was cooking. I came to stir my cooking stew and found that the lid was in pieces.

HAMILTON BEACH Black/Silver Single Clip Slow Cooker - 6 Qt. My first experience with this item resulted in a steam burn to my right hand. I needed to add some items to the stew beef that I had placed in the cooker earlier. I unlatched the handle, waited as the steam escaped. Thinking that I had allowed enough time for the steam to escaped, I opened the lid all the way. This resulted in more steam which burned my right hand.

I have a Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker, model #33162H. It is about 2 years old. I used it on the ‘warm’ setting for about 8 hours one day. The next day, I cleaned it, in warm soapy water, and rinsed it with warm water. I then had the glass lid in my hand, and was drying it with a cloth towel. It spontaneously shattered into thousands of small pieces, in my hands, and onto the kitchen floor. Luckily, I had on pants, socks and slippers. I had small cuts on my hands and one on my ankle. It could have been a lot worse, had I been barefoot and in shorts. Also luckily, there was no one else in the kitchen at the time.

The product, in the report: 6 quart slow cooker
Caller purchased a 6 quart slow cooker in March, 2012.
She had just finished washing it on August 22nd, 2012, still had it in her hand when it just broke, She doesn’t remember what did happened, she was only aware that the index finger on right hand on the side in a triangle which is why the skin popped out and the pinkie then ring finger on the second joint, on her left hand were cut and she was bleeding.
Her ring finger on her left hand is remaining numb and she can’t straighten it and her pinkie on the left hand is sliced vertically as if a knife or cutting utensil dropped sliced and folded her skin, the cut is down to her first knuckle.
She cannot remember what happened, she remembers only that she was holding it one second and the next second it was lying in four pieces and she was bleeding profusely.
Caller’s 8yr old daughter called an ambulance and caller was transported to the nearby hospital emergency room where she was given strong pain medication and received 18 stitches total for the three fingers.
She was released later that night being advised that she would need to speak with a plastic surgeon within just a couple of days because they are not positive that they were able to repair it adequately.
She would ask that an investigator look at these slow cookers for weak spots or defects and recall them.
She has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.
