COOKS 780-5008 slow cooker, have had a few years. Cooked food for a party and was cleaning up the next day. Washed the bottom and top by hand and laid it out to dry. About a minute later, the top exploded! Glass went everywhere. Nobody was even in the room.

The product, in the report: 6 Quart [slow cooker]

Caller purchased her six quart [slow cooker] on Black Friday 2012 (around November 28th, 2012 but never opened it until Christmas Day 2013 to cook a ham roast. While cooking the caller noticed and commented to her husband that the unit was becoming extremely hot. She unplugged the [slow cooker]. On Sunday, December 29th, 2013 the caller placed another ham roast in the [slow cooker], set the unit on high then left for Church. The caller and her family were gone possibly three hours before returning home. When the caller walked into her kitchen she noticed that the handles of the [slow cooker] had become so hot that they were melting down the side of the [slow cooker] and actually one had slidden down onto the counter. The inner bowl to the [slow cooker] that was holding the liquid was cracked and there were water circles in the bottom of the [slow cooker] where the bowl sets.

This incident is being reported as a fire and shock hazard and caller is asking for recall of this product. There were no injuries to report Caller has not been able to contact the manufacturer but does intend to continue attempts.

The product, in the report: Slow cooker style crock pot

We have a Cooks brand slow cooker model SC-702 purchased at [REDACTED] in Clearwater, Florida about a year ago. The glass lid has a plastic handle attached to the top middle of the lid. The plastic handle totally shattered into several pieces in my wife’s hand while removing the lid from the hot pot. The lid fell to the kitchen floor and thankfully landed on a fatigue mat and did not break. I searched the internet for a replacement handle and discovered that there are many accounts of this handle breaking in addition to the side handles breaking. We used this product according to manual directions and probably cooked a meal less than a dozen times.
