The product, in the report: 5 QT. PROGRAMMABLE SLOW COOKER

    This is about:

AMBIANO 5 QT. Programmable Slow Cooker

    Model Number LY-5000DE

Distributed By ALDI Inc., Batavia, IL.

The support structure on the bottom side of the unit consists of three(3) very small feet. Modest pressure applied to the left or right rear rim of the unit will cause the unit to tip.I used the word modest to give a sense of the situation, but it shouldn’t matter as a unit like this full of hot materials should absolutely not tip at all under any circumstance. Further, I filled the unit with 6 Qts of 57 degree tap water and chose the High setting which causes the unit to stay on for 6 hours.

The temp. of the water at 3 hours had not reached a temp of 150 degrees F which is below safe food temp.

During this time the surface or outer skin was at times higher than the internal temp.

By the sixth hour the internal temp had finally reached 195 degrees and the external temp. exceeded 166 degrees.

As we understand it, thermal burn can start as low as 140 degrees. This is, of course, dependent of exposure time. It seems that 166 degrees would be of danger to small children and pets.

The ceramic pot appears to be suspended above the heated base unit. This would seem to account, in part at least, for the lengthy heating time of the contents and the high surface temp.of the outer skin of the unit.

    Thank you!
