This is about the Toshiba Air Fryer Combo 8-in-1 Countertop Microwave Oven, Convection, Broil, Odor removal, Mute Function, 12.4” Position Memory Turntable with 1.0 Cu.ft, Black stainless steel, ML2-EC10SA(BS).
Nobody at all was using the product. The combined microwave and air fryer turned itself on with no intervention. This has happened many times over the full life of the oven. It’s problematic for any microwave, but especially problematic for this one because it is also an air fryer, so you often will leave a metal air frying tray inside, so the microwave turning on can create sparks and a fire. It also sometimes adds time to things that are cooking, which is problematic but less potentially deadly. Overall, it acts as if someone comes by and clicks on the “add 30 seconds” button -- which turns on the microwave or adds time -- even when nobody has touched the microwave. Nobody was injured this time when it started, and we are trying to remember not to keep the air frying rack in the oven, but it certainly has the potential to start a fire.
We tried to get Toshiba to replace the item, but they said it was out of warranty and safe.

Toshiba microwave, Mod No ML2-EC10SA(BS), began auto-starting with nothing inside. Luckily daughter was home at the time and immediately unplugged it. Nothing unusual had been noted prior other than it didn’t heat food as well as initially.

My three year old Toshiba ML2-EC10SA(BS) air fryer/microwave combination turns itself on intermittently. If left unattended, it is a huge fire safety risk. It started about 6 months ago by “adding 30 seconds” on occasion while I was already using the microwave, however it has escalated to doing it on its own even when not already in use. It does not seem safe to leave plugged in, as I could expect it to add infinite time on while no one was home and cause a fire hazard. When it malfunctions this way, no other buttons are responsive and the only way to get it to stop is by unplugging the unit. It’s happened many times at this point, but seems increasingly unsafe. I’ve only held on to it this long because I work from home and that gave me comfort to know I’d probably be around to notice an issue. I have reached out to Toshiba, whose only response was to confirm I have a proper power source and see if I’ve tried unplugging it to reset. Since mine is outside the warranty, they are unwilling to do anything and didn’t comment on my product safety concerns for others.

Toshiba Microwave Air Fryer Oven ML2-EC10SA(BS) Has been turning on automatically, adding time automatically, internal light goes off and on, and NOW, as of this week, the turntable runs automatically and will not turn off unless the door is closed. We have tried the reset instructions listed in the pamphlet without success, as well as unplugging it for hours which also does not work. This has been an ongoing problem for almost a year now starting in late Jan. 2025. Tried addressing this as indicated in the Toshiba Pamphlet with no success. Tried contacting Toshiba without success.

Incident details:
October 8, 2025, at approximately 3:30 a.m. the unit turned on by itself, began sparking and smoking, and filled the kitchen with smoke.
October 15, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m. the same unit again powered on by itself while we were asleep, producing sparks and heavy smoke.
During both incidents, my significant other and our 6-month-old baby were sleeping in the same room as the microwave. We were extremely fortunate to wake up in time to prevent a fire. This was a frightening and traumatic experience.
The unit remains unplugged and safely stored for inspection. It was purchased through Amazon, and I am attaching photos of the product, the model/serial label, and my Amazon receipt for your review.
This incident presented a serious fire hazard and caused significant emotional distress to my family. I am requesting that this claim be treated as a product safety issue and escalated to Toshiba/Mideas product safety team for immediate review and resolution.
Please confirm that this report will also be documented for product safety and potential recall evaluation.

I purchased the Toshiba 7-in-1 Countertop Microwave Air Fryer Inverter Technology Convection Microwave Smart Sensor ML2-TC10SAIT-SS from Wayfair on December 10, 2022. In the last ten days, the electronic panel occasionly became unresponsive, making it impossible to turn the unit off or on. Tonight, the panel was being fussy while I was using the broil/convection function. When I was finished using the unit, the microwave turned itself on and was running all on its own, after I had left the kitchen. Luckily, I saw the light on inside and the timer on the display panel counting down from the other room and was able to inplug the unit to turn it off. It leaves me to wonder if this has happened before without my knowledge. When the panel is unresponsive, I am unable to use my appliance as it’s intended. And of course running unattended and while empty presents a fire hazard. Fortunately, there have not been any injuries associated with this hazard, but I am extremely concerned about the potential for fire and do not feel safe using this any longer.

I have owned this Toshiba microwave for several years, having purchased it after my previous Toshiba model failed. I was attracted to its multifunctionality, but I found that I seldom utilized those features as they didn’t perform as expected. Its main function, the microwave, was satisfactory and above average.
Recently, when using the unit added some extra time, we guessed this was just us pushing the button too often. But the unit was adding extra cooking time on its own. For instance, if we set it for 2 minutes, it would sometimes extend the time by an additional 30, 60, or even 90 seconds.
FIRE Then came the alarming incident. Last night, my wife was heating a small pillow when she stepped away. The microwave unexpectedly added more time while she was out of the room.
When she returned, the microwave was still operating and adding additional time. The pillow was smoking and potentially on fire, and the kitchen was filling with smoke. Fortunately, she managed to remove the entire unit from the house. Had she been a few moments later, the situation could have escalated, especially since the microwave is positioned beneath a wooden cabinet.
I also remember that the microwave had turned itself on and added time after a power outage, but I guess this was due to the power outage at the time. Now, Im reconsidering those incidents. As I begin to research this issue, Ive come across reports suggesting that the ‘30-second button’ can get stuck. This is difficult to detect since it is flush with the unit.
After taking some additional photos, Ive decided to dispose of this microwave. I felt it was important to share this warning with others about a potential fire hazard.

Sparking/Arcing! These microwaves are manufactured with 4 areas that are about an inch in diameter, 3 of the areas are approx 1/4 inch lower than the inside ceiling of the microwave and the other is approx 1/8 of an inchlower than the ceiling.(The purpose is unknown to me) I suspect this to be a common issue due to the finish is blistering causing sparking/Arcing only in these areas that protrude from the inside ceiling of the microwave

My 8 in 1 Toshiba turns on by itself when not in use and adds minutes by itself while in use. This happened infrequently at first then more frequently. The last time it happened I had just used the convection oven and it still had a metal rack in it when it turned itself on. Fortunately I was in the next room and heard it. When I got to the kitchen it was sparking with flames. So grateful I was home. Otherwise my home may have been burnt down.

microwave oven auto starts and auto adds time. No one around or in the kitchen, I come in to find the microwave running with about 3.5 minutes left to go and it was very hot. Several days after using the 30 second button to start, it added on its own 30 seconds several times before the 30 seconds were up. Concerned for safety we have ceased using it but still have it.

We purchased a Toshiba 4 in 1 microwave oven model# ML2-EC10SA(BS) with a manufacture date of September 2021. After roughly 3-4 months after the 1 year warranty expired, the unit started to turn on the microwave function by itself every so often, and over time this defect increased. In addition, the unit would also start adding time to the microwave timer as it was on. This happened anytime throughout the day and night. The other more dangerous defect is when we selected the air fry or convection oven function ONLY, it would change to the microwave function at any time during the cooking cycle. As we were using the recommended air fry pan and wireframe holder, resulting in microwave reflection zapping from the stainless steel . There have not been any injuries fortunately, however the operation of this unit is dangerous to my family.

We are two adults in our late ‘50s - no kids. I was using our 18 month old microwave to boil a cup of cold water and instant coffee in a microwave safe mug, when I smelled melting plastic and opened the door to find a hole in the inside door. (I have attached 3 photos as documentation.) I had the microwave on for 2-3 minutes. A microwave door shouldn’t melt after only 18 months of use by two adults.
I tried reaching out 5+ times to Toshiba/Medea via their customer service reps: I would have been very happy with just a replacement door, a refurbished or used unit. But all they did was tell me that my 12 month warranty was expired and there was nothing they could do. This is not a microwave that broke. It MELTED. This is hazardous...why did the door melt? Clearly a defect of some kind.
One rep told me to use the “[REDACTED]” to find a repair shop. Is this 1980? There is no “[REDACTED]” and no one repairs microwaves. Clearly he was sending me a canned response that hasn’t been changed in 25 years. Or just being sarcastic and dismissive...can’t tell.
I very politely asked the reps to escalate this to a supervisory level, but none would reply back or do so. This is no way to treat a possibly hazardous defect and risky situation to a customer.
