Microwave oven randomly turned on by itself with nothing inside. Fortunately I was home and heard the microwave running and was able to unplug it before any damage potentially occurred. After letting it sit for a while I plugged it back in and it randomly turned on again after a couple of minutes.

The product was being used to heat up food in my house. The microwave would not turn off even after you open the microwave door it keeps runing and when you push stop/clear it wont stop at all You have to pull the plug out of the outlet on the wall to get it to stop.

The product, in the report: small white Oster counter top microwave. 11.5” X 22” X 18” deep.
While coworker was making coffee noticed that the outside of the microwave was very hot. as they sat down for a coffee break the microwave kicked on by itself, display started counting down from 8 -0 one number every 4-5 seconds and then continued to heat until it got to hot and stopped. once it cooled down it restarted again and did the same thing 2 more times. We unplugged it as the magnetron continued to heat, shut off and restart. We asked our local appliance repair man to look at it and see if it would do the same thing for him and start by itself. He closely monitored it and after an hour or so it started the heating, cooling off and restarting cycle. After a few cycles the magnetron failed and he returned the microwave to us with his findings. We are all still looking for a reason why this could start by itself. Hopefully someone will be able to diagnose the reason for this happening. Thanks!

My Oster table top microwave came on by itself while I was not at home. My set my security alarm system off and I was only 15 minutes away. So when I got home the microwave was still running and it was very hot inside and the outside off it to. Even the cord to it was hot. After I cut it off it started to make a humming noise so I unplugged it. If I hadn’t got home when I did this home would have been up in smoke. Will never buy this Oster product again.

I was called as a fire investigator to a church where a microwave had food stored in it that caught fire. The fire alarm system activated and smoke was found in the kitchen area coming from the microwave. No one had been in the building in approximately 8 hours which the security alarm confirmed. The microwave apparently self started baking the food stored inside to the point it caught fire. Fire was contained tot he microwave.

(07/22/2015) The consumer stated that the microwave was not in use. The outside glass in the door of the microwave shattered. The last time that the consumer used the unit was 7/21.
No injuries.
(07/22/2015) The consumer contacted the manufacturer to advised them of the incident. She was told that the unit was out of warranty. The consumer was also advised that her complaint could not be processed because she did not have all of the necessary information for the unit. She was advised and provide the manufacturer date.

(06/22/2014) The consumer stated that he set the timer on the microwave for a minute. He left the kitchen and came back. The microwave was still going. He hit the reset button. The microwave tuned off. Five minutes later, the microwave had come back on by itself. The consumer unplugged the unit.
The consumer stated that it somehow interfered with the remote controls that were in the room that was the closest to the microwave. The consumer stated that the remote controllers were disabled for about 10 minutes.

The consumer says that the manufacturer date is march 2011. he said the unit is not working and no longer heating. He called the manufacturer at 866-257-3336 who stated that there is no adjustment for it. They offered no assistance.
He was told to unplug the unit and turn it back on after 15 minutes but this did not cut back on. The consumer says he is not sure if it poses a safety issue but it possibly could be if the unit worsens.

Purchase this microwave in Dec. 2012 as a Christmas Gift. Mailed the Warranty registration card.
On 05/12/2013 my wife was heating some coffee, and told me the microwave was buzzing. She also stated that her coffee was a lot hotter than it should have been. The display on the microwave showed PF ( I am assuming Power Failure). When the door is closed, the microwave buzzes. When the door is opened it stops. I unplugged the power cord, waited 5 minutes, and plugged it back in. Again, with the door closed, the microwave buzzed. Upon further investigation and testing, I determined that the unit was putting out microwaves, even when the timer was counted down, the light went out, the turntable stopped, and the fan stopped.
I no longer have the original receipt, and without that, the company will not honor the 1 year warranty. I fail to see how something mfct. in Feb, can get from the plant in China, to the store shelf and be sold in less than 3 months. So I am basically stuck with a microwave that is energized when the door is closed, thus cooking uncontrollably whatever is in it.

My Oster Microwave oven Model # OGB81005 caught on fire within the side panel after only being on for 1 minute. The popcorn inside did not even pop. This was definitely an electrical fire. It has smelled funny since I bought it one month ago, but I thought it was just a “new appliance” smell. I am lucky I was standing right there in the kitchen which filled immediately with smoke and chemical smelling fumes. My kitchen could have burned down if I had not had a fire extinguisher nearby. I have called Oster, who told me to return it the store.
