The product, in the report: Magic Chef microwave, black exterior, white interior. UL Listed 54NJ E21418
The Magic Chef microwave oven worked well for many years. Then suddenly, the oven would finish a cycle, zero time remaining, beeped and was off, but when you open the door, the microwave comes back on and stays on even with door open. Unplugging and plugging in again did not reset this issue

The product, in the report: Magic Chef Microwave Oven, black, over the range type with exhaust fan/hood
The microwave turns on by itself and heats up very hot. This is not just the exhaust fan turning on but the oven is heating, the light is on and the turntable turning. Pushing the cancel button or any other button does not stop it. One has to open the door or unplug it to stop it. This has the potential to start a fire and I believe it should be recalled. The brand is Magic Chef, model number: MC0160UB, and serial number: DJ08101550. It was built in January 2008.

The product, in the report: Majic Chef over the range microwave model#mco165ub serial number dj14710838
For approximately 3 months my Majic Chef microwave has been turning on by itself, because I have older kids at home I thought it was them using the microwave. It seems that everytime we had water boiling or some type of food cooking that produced steam that the microwave would tum it self on. And when I say turned itself on I mean the fan would activate the lights would go on inside and the turn table would rotate and the clock would countdown as if somebody had placed something inside to cook, but nobody did, it also would make a lod crackling noise as if someone was pouring water on a live electrical circuit. Just the other day I happened to be the only person home and I had a tea pot on the stove and when it boiled and a little steam reach the bottom of the microwave everything I just explained happened and a strong smell of wires or plastic burning came from the microwave. I pulled the plug out and told all of my family members not to plug it in and use it, the next day I removed it and purchased a new one and Installed it. I have an electrical background and also have installed many microwaves and I have never come across anything like this before and neither has anyone I have spoken to. When I called the manufacturer the representative I spoke could car less about my concerns and the only thing he kept repeating is without a reciept I couldnt do anything about it. I have to say I was very taken back by this because I had already explained that I had removed the micrwave and bought and installed a new one. But my complaint with them went no where and thats why I contacted this agency.! would also like to add this is the first and probably the last time, lm not an alarmist just a very concerned husband and father. Thank you

The product, in the report: microwave oven
Microwave oven started up when door opened after heating food (when stopped by timer),does this randomly emitting dangerous microwave radiation to users door interlock levers both working and in good condtion, never sent for repair or opened or dropped in new condition, tried contacting and filing in customer service question/help but submit form returns an unable to process or connect to forwarding page, tried several times with differnt browsers on magic chef website. This is a dangerous condition and should never happen i suspect there may be other units like this out there, purchased new in 2013 from home depot california,I suspect its either a bad design circuit board with electrical pins randomly toutching together by shorting out at or near the circuit board for the electronics or bad software in the memory chip.

No one hurt Made Mar 29, 2016, sent to the company Apr 8, 2016, published by CPSC Apr 22, 2016
The product, in the report: 1.4 Kilowatt Microwave
The consumer indicates that approximately a year and a half ago he was awaken mid-night by a humming sound coming from his kitchen. The consumer went to the kitchen and this is when he noticed that the microwave was on with the front panel flashing ‘000;’ the unit had turned itself on. The consumer tried turning off the unit through its front panel and it would not respond. The consumer had to unplug the unit in order for it to turn off. The consumer indicates that he never tried opening the microwave door because he believes this would have been a mistake.
The consumer is unaware how long the unit had been on for but he states that he touched the top of the microwave and it was extremely hot.
03/28/2016 - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to documented his concerns and informed the consumer that he would hear from them within twenty-fours hours.
The consumer states that prior to the incident, he used the microwave on average once or twice daily. The consumer ceased use of the unit approximately one year and a half ago because of the safety issues.
The consumer plans on keeping the unit in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Countertop Microwave Oven
10/15/2016 (Approximately) - The consumer put some coffee in the microwave. When finished, he removed the coffee mug from the unit and closed the microwave door. Approximately two or three seconds later when the consumer turned around and started walking away, the unit turned on by itself. The consumer immediately pressed the STOP button but this did not work. The microwave only stopped when the consumer opened its door. When he closed it again, the unit did not turn back on.
The consumer indicates that altogether the same incident has occurred five or six times with him and his wife in the same manner. The consumer is very concerned because he does not know if the unit has or possibly can turn on without prior immediate use by itself, especially when nobody is home.
02/09/2016 - The consumer indicates that the same incident happened except this time, he opened and closed the door four or five times and the unit would not shut off at all. After four or five minutes of dealing with this, the unit finally shut off when he closed the door.
The consumer plans on unplugging the unit. The consumer indicates that he uses his unit five to ten times a day per day.
The consumer contacted the brand firm and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to asked him what was displayed on the microwave panel and the consumer informed them that the same thing that is always displayed when the unit runs by itself: the clock. The consumer provided product and contact information. He was informed that he would receive a call back.
Shortly after, the consumer received an e-mail from the brand firm indicating that he cut off the power cord from the unit and to mail it back to them. The e-mail also asked that the consumer e-mail them photos of the unit’s product information. The e-mail states that the consumer would then after receive a replacement microwave. The consumer plans on following orders.

The product, in the report: Microwave Oven
Microwave oven, not in use, self-started on it’s own! In the middle of the night it made keypad beeping sounds and then started up. It is a Magic Chef Model MCO160UB, Serial Number DJ07X02148, manufactured in October 2007. The company said it would send a replacement keypad and a repairman to install the keypad. This is very scary. There could have been a fire if we were not home to turn it off. There should probably be a recall of these products.

The product, in the report: Magic Chef Microwave Model HMD1110B
We were using the microwave to defrost beef (50% power for 2 minutes). After the two minutes, the timer ended, but the microwave continued to run full power for some time (about 10+ minutes) until the beef caught fire. At that point, we noticed the problem, unplugged the microwave, and put out the fire. Now, any time the microwave is plugged in and the door is closed, it will run at full power, regardless of any times or settings. We have since replaced the microwave for safety. Magic Chef Microwave Model HMD1110B We reported this problem to Magic Chef.

The product, in the report: Magic Chef Microwave Oven MCM1110STK, 1.1 cu. ft., 120V AC, 60Hz Single Phase with Grounding, Input Power 1500W, Energy Output 1000W, Frequency 2,450MHz, outside dimentsions whd: 20.2x12x16.3”, Cavity Dimensions whd 12.9x8.9x14.5”, 32Lbs weight, 10 power levels, Black metal case, Stainless trim on front, front vertical handle bar.
Own Magic Chef microwave MCM1110STK purchased late 2012 I believe. No problems until yesterday 2/6/14. Cooked 2 items for a total of 5 minutes, it beeped done. Removed items and left the microwave door open to let moisture out. Within seconds from a few feet away I heard the microwave SELF-START WITH THE DOOR OPEN!!!! I quickly shut the door and unplugged it. When I got home from work same day I tested it. It would still heat water but the only way I could do that was keep it unplugged to put the items in...because since yesterday EVERYTIME I open the microwave door when it is plugged in...the microwave automatically SELF-STARTS WITH THE DOOR OPEN. I left it unplugged overnight and re-tested it again this morning (2/7/2014) It is malfunctioning the same exact way it did yesterday. Continues to SELF-START when plugged in every time I attempt to open the microwave door. This obviously is a HUGE POTENTIAL HAZARD both personally to myself and to my home!!!!!
I placed a call today to the phone number listed in my Magic Chef microwave manual. ’[REDACTED]’ advised me to call back with the Serial Number and MFG date which I intend to do. No information was given me as feedback to my complaint and no instructions suggested as far as my dealing with this now dangerous appliance.

On 3-15-13 I purchased a Magic Chef Countertop 0.9 cu. ft. Microwave Oven from Home Depot online. Model No. MCD991R. Tonight less than three minutes into warming my dinner a horrendously loud clattering/clanking noise came from the microwave and a spark from the outlet it was plugged into. I unplugged it. It scared the daylights out of me. I have owned two previous microwaves - both inexpensive. The first lasted 10 years and was working when I passed it along. The second I had for 10 years also and I took it to the office where I work and it is still working there. I never had anything like this happen before. This microwave is only 6 1/2 months old. I have already written Home Depot and Magic Chef. If I had not been standing right there and quickly pulled the plug, I don’t know what would have happened.

The product, in the report: Stainless Steel Microwave 1.3cu ft.
During the period of May 8th to May 11th my microwave, MAGIC CHEF Model MCD1311ST experienced multiple electric surges causing my circuit breaker to trip. Not knowing if it was my outlet or the microwave, I moved the microwave to another outlet. Within two days the microwave had another power surge and a slight electric burning smell came from the unit. The unit would no longer power on.
Looking for a replacement unit, I went to Amazon.com. I was amazed to read reviews on my microwave. 50% of those reviews reported similar problems within 2 years of purchase

Report of microwave oven, mode: MCM770WTG, manufacturer’s web site: www.mcappliance.com
When I start this microwave oven by pressing a key, it seems working normal: light on inside, turntable rotates, sounds for heating and exhaust fan.
However, before I started it (as soon as it was plugged in the power and before I pressed any key) AND after it ended at the specified time, it ‘prematurely’ started or continued heating the food! I can hear some sound, similar to but lower than the normal sound (assume it’s heating sound, no exhaust fan working), though the light was off and the turntable didn’t rotate. At this time, press [Stop/Clear] won’t stop it. I had to unplug it for a very very long time (longer than overnight) to reset it, and had to try this several times.
This is the second time I experienced this. I reported this to the manufacturer more than 3 weeks ago (submitted an online email on its web site), but no response.
Except some over-cooked food and spill, there is no damage or injure. However, I think it may help other because it a safety issue - starts cook before human press a key to start and continue cooking after the time up (bell sounds).

The product, in the report: OTR Microwave-Stainless front
We own a Magic Chef OTR Microwave. While cleaning the inside we noticed what we thought was burned food on the track of the turntable. Upon closer inspection it was determined that it was a scorched from what appears to be the light that illuminates the stove top. It appears to have scorched the plastic turntable track from the underside. We did contact Magic Chef, spoke to a representative-[REDACTED]-who said-Sorry, its out of warranty .. get it fixed and hung up. We feel that if we had left this light on as a night light as we do when the grandchildren are around, that there was a good possibility of a fire starting. I believe that someone should look into this problem.

Magic Chef model MC0160UW over-the-stove microwave oven is turning itself on and starting what appears to be the “popcorn” cooking cycle. The keypad was not responsive when I tried to stop it and it could only be stopped by opening the door. It has now done this several times. I tried disconnecting the power completely for several hours in case there’s any form of reset but it still intermittently power itself on in the same manner once reconnected to power.

Magic Chef Microwave Model # MCO160UW Serial #DJ07Yo3560 Nov 2007
Microwave turns itself on, keypad locks up and unit cannot be turned off. Open door, then close it press off/cancel and it comes on again. This has happened twice in the past couple of days when I happened to get up early in the morning and came downstairs to find the unit running and hot inside. Another time, it turned itself on whilst I was using the stove to boil eggs and the steam was coming up into the exhaust vents under the unit.
I have no idea how often it comes on when I am not home or during the night. I am afraid of it now as it is a fire hazard.
Upon looking, I found MANY reports of this online, why has this model not been recalled???
