First aid Made Sep 3, 2026, sent to the company Sep 9, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 23, 2026
The product, in the report: LG Over-The-Range Microwave Oven, Model MVEM1825X /00, Product Code MVEM1825X.CRSELGA, Serial 503TAGHHG983, Manufactured 03.2025, Made in China. Color: PrintProof Stainless Steel / Black. 120V 1700W, 1000W Output, 2450MHz. This is a household over-the-range microwave oven mounted above the stove. The unit has a door handle that shattered and violently flew across the kitchen during use. Vibrates and makes a loud noise like it will explode. FCC ID: BEJV1842NAE
I am reporting a serious safety hazard with my LG Over-The-Range Microwave Model MVEM1825X /00, Serial 503TAGHHG983 that has caused personal injury and poses a risk of severe laceration, impact injury, fire, and explosion.
*HAZARD 1 - VIOLENT VIBRATION / EXPLOSION RISK: The microwave makes an extremely loud, violent vibrating/grinding noise during normal operation. The entire unit shakes and sounds as if it is about to explode. This has occurred since purchase.
*HAZARD 2 - HANDLE FAILURE CREATING FLYING SHARP PROJECTILE AND LACERATION HAZARD: While the microwave was ON and in use, the door handle catastrophically failed and broke apart. A large, sharp piece of the handle broke off and went FLYING across the kitchen with significant force. If a person, had been standing in front of the microwave, they would have been struck in the face or body and seriously injured.
As a result of the handle shattering, both my son and I suffered laceration injuries to our hands from the sharp broken plastic edge. We both bled. We did not require stitches, so we did not go to the ER, but we sustained bleeding injuries from a new appliance failing during normal use.
We do not feel safe using it. We fear fire, electrical failure, or another projectile failure.
I contacted LG to report the injury and hazard. LG dismissed the injury because we did not go to the hospital. LG refused to exchange or refund the unit and told me to arrange my own repair for reimbursement. I refused, as I do not consider a repair to be a safe remedy for a unit that vibrates like it will explode and that has already shattered and caused injury.
This is not an isolated defect. Other consumers reviewing this same model MVEM1825X online report the identical issues of loud vibrating noise and handle breakage and a piece flying. I believe this model is defective by design/manufacturing and should be recalled before a consumer suffers a more severe laceration, eye injury, burn, or fire, and even death.
Requested Remedy: I am requesting CPSC investigate Model MVEM1825X for recall. The manufacturer has failed to provide a safe remedy.

The product, in the report: LG countertop microwave. 2.0 cu.ft. Black Stainless Steel 1200W, 2450MHz 23 7/8”x 13 9/16”x 19 13/16” Manufactured 01/25
We purchased an LG countertop microwave from Lowe’s on 10/17/25. On 5/29/26 we heard a bang and noticed that the top of the glass microwave oven door was broken. When we opened the door we saw that the glass was completely shattered inside the protective panes of glass. Small pieces of glass were falling out. The microwave was not in use at that time. On 5/30/26 I called LG and sent photos. On 6/01 they told me it was not covered under the warranty because glass damage is”cosmetic” and to contact Lowe’s. On 6/08 I contacted Lowe’s and was told it was not covered under the extended warranty, damaged glass is “cosmetic” and to contact LG. It is not cosmetic, it is functional and dangerous

The product, in the report: LG Smart 30in. W 2cu ft Stainless Steel 1,050 Watt,Over the Range Microwave Model MVEL 2033 F
LG MICROWAVE MVEL 2033F: THE exhaust function does not work. Steam and smoke from cooking is not removed, rather condensation from liquids boiling builds up on face of over range microwave, up on to cabinetry causing cabinet paint to warp and bubble, and accumulates on top over range microwave seeping behind the unit, possibly causing damage to walls. Smoke from cooking is not removed instead sets off alarms and fills room with smoke. Contacted LG 3x first =01/27/2025. On 1/1/2026 Friend visiting had asthma attack due to smoke not removed. No one hurt Made Dec 15, 2023, sent to the company Dec 22, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 9, 2024
The product, in the report: 0.9 cu. ft. NeoChef™ Countertop Microwave with Smart Inverter and EasyClean®
We bought an LG NeoChef 0.9 cu. ft. microwave two years ago and it started to malfunction after around 9 months of use. We noticed that it would make popping and crackling noises when in use, and there would be smoke and a burning smell from the inside of the device. The mica sheet on the machine began to develop a burned spot and we replaced it. This did not correct the issue and soon after, the burned spot appeared again. We replaced the mica sheet once again, but this time we noticed that the magnatron, behind the sheet, had a hole melted in it. The metal on this part is quite thick, and would have to reach a high temperature to melt it. My daughter was using it and we were concerned that it was going to catch fire. We have removed the microwave from the house as it poses a significant fire hazard. We were using the microwave occasionally to reheat food. I’ve read many of the one and two star reviews on the LG website and many people have shared the same issue and they have included photos of the burned mica sheets as well as photos of the melted magnatron. These reviews date back to the same time that we bought our microwave and are as recent as 24 hours ago. I’ve included some of the more recent reviews below. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: LG Over the Range 1.7 cubic ft. Microwave with Easy Clean #LMV1764ST STAINLESS STEEL 1000W
I purchased a new LG over the range microwave to replace a 3 year old microwave. Upon using it for the first time to heat 1 cup of water in glass measuring cup for 2 minutes, I removed the measuring cup and it cracked in half and broke. The hot water spilled on my chest, shoulder, hands and face as the glass cracked. I rceived 2nd degree burn with skin loss on my right shoulder, and 1st degree burns on my face, chest, and hands. I had used this same glass measuring cup the day before in the old microwave with no problems, and for over a year regularly for 2 minutes. I also noticed that even when heating food in this new LG microwave that the food pops and cracks because even though the wattage is the same, it cooks for a prolonged period at the higher wattage. LG sent out a repairman to inspect and deemed nothing was wrong with the microwave

The product, in the report: Countertop LG Microwave model LMC1575BD serial number 803TAPEB7992 purchased from Best Buy in Mason Ohio.LG
An LG countertop microwave started overcooking food on the automatic settings. My 9 year old son attempted to make popcorn using the popcorn setting and the microwave cooked it so long it burst into flames. We notices a hold in the back of the microwave where smoke poured out into our home, activating the smoke detectors. The microwave was purchased just under 3 years ago and should not have developed a hole and should have safety sensors to detect an issue and prevent a fire. LG will certainly say their products are built and tested - but it is obvious they continue to fall back on this claim without actually addressing these safety issues. This, and similar products, should be recalled and a communication campaign should be done to protect consumers, their children, their pets, and their families from companies who do not make safety a priority ahead of profits.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 24, 2022, sent to the company Mar 29, 2022, published by CPSC Apr 12, 2022
The product, in the report: microwave had an electrical fire. LG model lmv1831st/00
My son was saying for 2 weeks that he saw the digits on the microwave go back and forth as it was running (for example, if something were in the microwave for 60 secs it would start at 60, the go to 57, then 59, then 58, then 58, then 57, etc. A few days later, I was cooking in the stove and turned the microwave fan on. I went downstairs to put laundry away and came back up and smelled something weird. I opened the oven, wasn’t the chicken, then smelled burning plastic and opened the microwave and there was smoke and an orange flame. I put the flame out and took the glass turntable out with a oven mitt and the glass burst everywhere. The microwave was still smoking and melting at the bottom. I unplugged the unit and eventually the smoke stopped. I know it had to have been something electrical because we weren’t cooking anything at the time and the unit had been glitching. LG sent someone out to “repair “ the unit. I am scared if they try to repair it. It literally could have burnt my house down due to their fault.

The product, in the report: Microwave
The consumer indicates that he was in his living room when he saw smoking coming in from the kitchen. The consumer quickly went to the kitchen and saw the smoke was coming from the microwave. The consumer opened the microwave and fire came out; he immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher and put the fire out, which took about thirty seconds. The consumer notes that, aside from the microwave, the cabinet above it and his ceiling are damaged. The consumer states that, prior to the incident, the unit had been used six hours earlier.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; a service technician was dispatched and, upon inspection, he informed the consumer that he had never seen anything like this. The service technician called his office to let them know that the consumer was not interested in a repair.
The consumer states that the unit was used three to four times daily.
The consumer plans on keeping his microwave for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: LG Microwave Model LMV1650ST
Last Wednesday on 11/24/2021 we had a microwave catch fire and spread throughout the kitchen. It is not 100% certain, but we believe it is a LG microwave model number LMV1650ST. All tags were burnt off and we could not find any model names or numbers. However, on the front door there was a feature advertised “Glide & Cook” As we look that up, we found the LG offers that. Homeowner stated they were cooking popcorn in the microwave, and it just started on fire shortly after. Microwave was only a few years old. Attached is the manual of the microwave and some pictures of the fire scene. Let me know if you need anything else.

No one hurt Made Oct 1, 2020, sent to the company Nov 16, 2020, published by CPSC Dec 1, 2020
The product, in the report: LG LCRT1513ST /00 Microwave oven, 1100 watt, 1.5 cu ft cooking chamber Model LCRT1513ST UPC 048231318853 Manufactured: July 2013, SN: 307TAQP59356 (uncertain if 2nd character is zero or letter “o”), silver/stainless steel with black plastic.
LG LCRT1513ST /00 Microwave oven (manuf. July 2013), SN: 307TAQP59356 (uncertain if 2nd character is zero or letter “o”).
On first use of day (a.m.), heated 2 cups of water in [REDACTED] measuring cup on High setting in LG microwave oven (LG). After 1-2 minutes became aware of heavy smoke coming from LG. Smoke was toxic, electronic melting smell of light gray/tan color. Emissions set off both smoke detector and CO detector in next room (separate units, both installed since 2018). Opened door to stop LG operation. Retrieved fire extinguisher and shot retardant into oven chamber and stood back to assess. Oven chamber light and display panel still on.
Re-approached LG and felt very warm-to-hot temperature on top, right exterior casing (above and behind control panel). While reaching to unplug power cord, LG beeped and switched off oven light and display (normal timer operation of “ECO-On” feature). Unplugged LG power cord from wall and moved LG outside for safety.
Outside air conditions in our area on 12 September 2020 were “Unhealthy” due to regional fires and other climate conditions. However, the air quality inside our house due to the LG smoke was much worse than outside.
(https://www.epa.gov/outdoor-air-quality-data/air-quality-index-daily-values-report) Geographic Area: San Mateo County (California), Date: 09/12/2020, Overall PM2.5 AQI Value: 173 (“Unhealthy”)
Later removed the top cover from LG and found the large capacitor block under the magnetron had melted itself and nearby wires. There were also burn marks around it and above on the inside of the top cover. The internal fuse did not blow. The dedicated 20A circuit the LG was plugged into did not reset (new panel, breakers and 20A circuit installed/inspected 2016).
Have extensive photos of the damage with part/serial #s. We do not believe the fire extinguisher had any effect on the electrical fire/melting as there was no direct access to that area from the cooking chamber. The [REDACTED] glass was still full of water and the cooking chamber looked fine except for being covered in retardant powder.
Luckily the fire was contained inside the microwave’s case and only slight singing can be seen on the countertop underneath. The greater damage was to our lungs and health.

I was popping popcorn in my LG microwave suddenly the microwave made a popping noise and there were flames inside of it. The smell was terrible. I shut it off and when I opened it after the flames were extinguished the plastic piece under the turntable was melted. Thankfully I was nearby waiting for the popcorn to finish popping Or who knows how far the fire would’ve spread.

Hurt, care not known Made Dec 21, 2018, sent to the company Feb 4, 2019, published by CPSC Feb 19, 2019
The product, in the report: Microwave, Over range, wall mount
There is a Electrical Shock Hazard and thus a LIFE SAFETY ISSUE with the LMV1813SB over the range microwave.
The hazard is that the threaded portion of the under unit light socket is hot/energized even though the light is not switched on. I have verified this case with a meter and it shows 120Vac between the socket’s threaded portion and its reflector.
Normal & safe design practice is for the socket to be grounded (not hot, not energized).
What Happened: While changing the under unit right side light bulb, I was shocked. While threading the light into the socket, I was touching the threads of the light bulb and the other part of my hand touched the reflector. I immediately felt an electrical shock.
Had another part of my body provided the current path, the outcome could be more dangerous than the shock sensation and resulting jerk. In some cases it could be deadly.
Replacing the bulb as I did is not unexpected: - Changing the light bulb should be expected - Given that it is a somewhat awkward potion to change the light bulb, it is reasonable to expect that the user may contact the threads which contact the energized portion of the socket as well as contacting the reflector which is at ground. - It is not unexpected that another portion of one’s body may be grounded to a stove below it or to another ground potential. This would result in current flowing through the body core and potentially flowing through the heart.
I contacted LG and they indicated that the instructions say to wear gloves when changing the bulb (who does that). They indicated they would look into it further.

My wife went to reheat her coffee (because with kids, you never get to enjoy a hot cup of coffee) and set it for exactly 28 seconds. She never grabbed it out of the microwave once it beeped, and it appears the heating mechanism never shut off. The mug and coffee were literally on fire! Our microwave did this once before a month or so ago - kept heating even after time stopped and even after the door was open! I thought it was a one-time glitch, but turns out there’s a larger problem. So blessed that we caught it when we did. Had we left to go for a walk, run an errand, etc. it would’ve been disastrous!

Last December my wife was using our LG Microwave oven when it began to emit acrid odor (burning smell). She turned off the unit and inspected the food product which was still cold. She started the microwave a second time and smelled the same odor. At this point she let the microwave rest for an hour and then attempted to heat something again only to smell the same order after a few seconds of operation. At this point she turned off and unplugged the microwave and left it for me to inspect.
I’m a mechanical engineer and working in the field of forensics. Part of my job description also includes fire investigation.
Upon inspection of the microwave I found evidence of a high resistance connection one of the microwaves thermal cutouts. The ABS base of the thermal cutout is melted and the crimp connection on ones side is welded on. Note, this connection was not welded at the time of manufacture, instead the welding happened as a result of the incident.

The product, in the report: LG microwave oven model LCRT2010ST purchased from Home Depot 1.5 years ago.
Our microwave oven, LG model LCRT2010ST purchased 1.5 years ago from Home Depot, started on its own with nothing in it. We called LG customer service and were told to unplug the unit, wait 30 sec, replug it and push STOP to reset the control panel. We did this but the problem recurred. In a variant of the problem, the unit also periodically started over the past two days when the door was simply closed but before the keypad was pushed. We recontacted LG but they were not helpful. Our warranty expired a few months ago, so we are out of luck.
There was no power outage associated with this behavior.
We are disposing of the microwave because it is a fire hazard. The unit is a counter top model that we had installed in a cherry cabinet in our kitchen. Had this oven started on its own while we were away, it could have started a house fire.

[REDACTED] [REDACTED] I just wanted to make you aware of a call we went on this morning in case you run across something similar. We responded to a residential alarm and when we arrived it didn’t appear to be much as we couldn’t see anything through the windows. The owner responded within 2min and we were able to get in the house. It had a light haze of smoke and an electrical smell. We searched everything in the kitchen and it ended up being the microwave. The owner advised it was 0700 this morning when he left the house and it hadn’t been used since. We didn’t have an actual flame but it did produce a light haze of smoke in the house and heated the microwave up enough all the inside of it was tachy. It didn’t trip the breaker. We had to shut if off. Below is the info on the microwave and attached are photos.

The product, in the report: LG stainless steel/black over the range Microwave oven
While I was cleaning my range oven glass cooktop I smell something burning then I noticed that my microwave oven was on and it is running on very high temperature. Then smoke start coming out and I also notice something bright red is glowing inside the microwave. I tried to turn it off but it is not responding it just stay on all the time so I disconnected it from the electrical socket and that turn it off safely. When I open the microwave the plastic/glass inside are all broken and there some sign of burning and melting from high heat. I figure this is a very unusual incident and a very dangerous one too. If we are not home and I did not notice what is happening I am definitely sure that it will cause a big fire that will burn down our house. I do not remember turning the microwave on so I am suspecting that it turn itself on. I am hoping by reporting this it will help prevent or save some other homeowner from burning their house down. The microwave brand is LG model # LMV1680ST and SN : 912 TAGH02447.

The product, in the report: LG Microwave Oven (Household) Model Number: LMV1683ST Type: Over-the-range Description: Stainless Steel Dimensions (in inches): 29.94” x 15.69” x 16.44” Quick overview: LG Non-Sensor Over the Range Microwave-Stainless Steel with 1.6 cu. ft. capacity, 1000 Watts total power and 300 CMF
We have an LG over-the-range microwave - model LMV1683ST - manufactured in January 2013. Last night my two young children and I were trying to pop a bag of popcorn for a snack before bedtime. I placed the bag into the microwave and pressed the POPCORN button. Something we have done many times before. The microwave had been on for about one minute and the popcorn had just started popping when I noticed the microwave flashing orange with flames of fire. I immediately made my way to the microwave and pressed the STOP button. When I opened the door of the microwave there was some smoke inside and as the smoke cleared I noticed a hole in the top of the microwave that had been burned through. The smoke was from the melting plastic and the hole was about the size of a quarter dollar coin. I immediately stopped using the microwave and unplugged it from the wall outlet. I then monitored it with a fire extinguisher in hand for several minutes to be sure there was no additional fires. The microwave is now no longer usable. I contacted the manufacturer, LG, and was told that because my microwave was outside of the 1 year warranty period (even though it is less than 3 years old) they would not cover it. The cost to fix it is more than the microwave is worth brand new. So essentially because of a defective product - I also previously had issues with some numbers on the key pad working that LG would not fix - I am out several hundred dollars to buy a new microwave and get it delivered and installed. This product is very dangerous! I am just happy that I was home and in the kitchen when this occurred or the fire may have spread and this could be much worse.

“over the stove” microwave fell off the wall, approximately 2years after purchase. wall mounting bracket was bent. Luckily, we had just finished cooking lunch at the stove which involved boiling water.
Contacted installer (home depot) who said “installation” warranty was only good for one year. When we contacted manufacturer, the rep tried to read me the manual and tell me that the mounting bracket, which was provided to mount the oven as an “over the stove” model, was only an accessory and was not covered under the warranty Representative did not care that mounting bracket had bent and that there was an inherent design defect.
Representative offered to send a new bracket if I sent a copy of receipt. Copy was sent but bracket never received. Follow up email never was responded to by company.

The product, in the report: LG black and gray/stainless steel countertop microwave oven
LG Microwave oven door exploded and cut my husband. Husband was heating up a brat/sausage in microwave. Did not heat all the way first time so put back in. When he took out the (microwave safe) glass plate, it was a little warm and was holding the plate with his hands and closed the microwave with the back of his hand/arm. When he closed it, he heard a high pitched squeal, the microwave door blew up and out at him, sending glass into his hand and clear across our kitchen. Contacted LG..Disgusted with how this is being handled. The first time I called (weekend), I was told the department I needed to speak with was not open today and could I call back tomorrow (Monday). Should they not be contacting me back?!?! Poor customer service. Upon finally (after calling back and having to go through 5 minutes of questioning again) getting ahold of the “Supervisory Department” I was told that the item has passed the warranty unless I have purchased the extended warranty. To which I explained I had not but, that still doesn’t mean its ok for a microwave door to BLOW UP just because it’s more than a year old! So, I was told I would have to pay out of my pocket for diagnostic testing and IF it could be proved that it was manufacturer defect and I had the purchase receipt then they would see what they could do for me.

Was using LG microwave, model LCS0712ST, serial number 504TAKKAQ989 to microwave popcorn and after a few minutes, didn’t hear any popcorn popping. Stopped it and opened the door, full of smoke and smelled like capacitor overheated... Very heavy fumes (probably toxic). Unplugged it immediately and wanted to take it to BestBuy (where it was purchased less than three months ago). The outside of the microwave was burning hot, especially the top, so we couldn’t move it. Took it to BestBuy a couple days later and they said it was manufacture fault, so they couldn’t refund it, we had to contact LG. Called LG on 8/5/15, rep said to wait 3-5 days for an email or letter in the mail with further instructions. A week went by and heard nothing... Called LG again on 8/14/15, rep told me to upload my receipt, which I did. Another week goes by, again, no contact from LG, so I call them today 8/20/15, and they said they closed my case because they did not receive my receipt the first time, even though nobody told me to do so and nobody contacted me. She said she will put it in again and I’d have to wait another 3-5 days. This product nearly caught fire and lucky we stopped it before something disastrous happened. It is unsafe and LG seems to care less about their consumers. I have had this broken microwave for weeks and still, LG has done nothing to rectify this situation. Perhaps they will pay attention once this item is recalled.

I have an lg microwave model # 72179159011 serial # 210TA00903. Recently this microwave caught on fire while sitting unused on our counter top. This happened while the microwave oven was not in use. If not for the smoke alarm going off and my brother in law hearing it it would have caught the cabinets on fire and then the rest of the kitchen. I am thankful that it did not happen when we were asleep as I have two children under three years old in the home. My wife and I have contacted LG directly and they have refused any correspondence with us. We have sent pictures as well as multiple emails and they have taken no action. They seemed more concerned with liability in regards to the damage done to my home than finding the cause of the fire. I am still have the microwave in question. I am a fire fighter and paramedic and am concerned that this same fault could be present in other microwave ovens and that this fault could lead to someone being hurt. I want to emphasize that the microwave was off at the time it caught on fire and was not being used to cook.

LG model LCRT1510SV Microwave oven. Approx one year old; fails in very unsafe manner. The device was used to heat some soup for 10 minutes, and operated normally. When the door open button was pushed to remove the food, the light and microwave came ON with the door open.
A search on line showed several people having the same issue with the same model; the reply from LG was “OK, it’s broken, you can bring it in for repair.”
A microwave generator is a dangerous item; the door interlock should completely prevent the operation of the unit, rather than be based on failure prone software.

The product, in the report: LG Microwave Oven, Model number LMV1680ST, Product Code MV1648ADL.CSBELGA, manufactured December 20101, serial number 012TAHQ06065
Two identical incidents occurred with an LG Microwave Oven, Model number LMV1680ST, Product Code MV1648ADL.CSBELGA, manufactured December 2010, serial number 012TAHQ06065.
The first incident occurred in early October of 2012, eleven months after the purchase, installation, and daily use of the unit. This first incident with the unit is being reported now for the first time. Without any human intervention whatsoever and without the unit having been programmed or otherwise touched in any way, the microwave turned itself on, could not be turned off, and emitted black smoke. Every attempt to turn the unit off failed, so ultimately to avert a fire the unit was unplugged from the outlet. Since the unit was under warranty, LG sent a service technician on October 11, 2012. The repair technician found a burnt printed circuit board, a melted control, and a melted top. He therefore replaced the control assembly and the top grille. When questioned, the technician replied that he had never seen or heard of any such incident, and assured us that since he had just installed a new control assembly that it could never happen again. I took pictures of the burnt control circuit board because of my concern about the incident.
Despite the assurances received that this type of incident could never happen again, on April 10, 2014 the exact same incident occurred. The microwave had not been used or even touched for over 12 hours, and yet it turned itself on, it could not be turned off, and emanated black smoke. In order to turn the unit off, the plug was again detached from the wall. I am reporting both incidents simultaneously as I am now very convinced that LG has either a latent defect or a design flaw which seriously impacts safety. Fortunately, in both instances detailed above, someone was home to intervene and avert a fire. If someone had not been home I can only surmise that a major fire would have occurred.
LGs focus after the both incidents is on the repair of the unit. I firmly believe this to be a serious safety issue and that LG and/or the appropriate government agency must undertake a full review of the product’s design before a catastrophic event can occur.

We have an LG Microwave oven that is arcing in the lower right back of the microwave cabinet and has burn a small hole there. An independent technician has examined the unit and verified the defect, which could cause a fire. LG is dragging their feet on a replacement, which we hope will not be defective. The unit was purchased on Jan. 3 2014 and is less than three months old. There has never been any metal used inside of the unit and it is lightly used. Various online reports of fires and arcing in these ovens raise my concerns.

The product, in the report: Over the Range Microwave Oven
1/20/14 Caller stated that he noticed his original microwave oven had a hole in the fan cover. He contacted the manufacturer and he was informed that they are aware of the problem but does not replace the unit until there is a fire. He contacted the retailer and he received a replacement 1/26/2014 and installed 2/1/2014.
On 2/12/14 while his spouse was using the unit for a timer, there was nothing in it, approximately 10 mins later flames erupted inside he had to use a towel to contain the fire, the fan covers and interior were burnt as a result of the incident. 2/13/14 The manufacturer was contacted and he was advised that the retailer should not have given him a replacement and it should have been repaired. The service technician came out 12/17/14 for inspection and he was informed that the unit will be repaired.
Caller is not satisfied with this offer because the manufacturer is aware of the problem with the microwave oven but still allowed consumers to purchase them with a risk that these unit can cause fire hazards.
The product is not part of a recall.

The product, in the report: LG 1.4 cu. foot countertop microwave oven
This is regarding an LG microwave oven, model LCS1410SW, which I purchased on 11/29/2011. A problem recently developed where burning and sparking occurred on the front edge of the oven frame (where it meets the bottom of the door). The inside of the door has special insulating material but the bezel of the oven that the door presses against only has a painted surface. Due to what I believe is a manufacturing./design defect, small amounts of paint have come off in one or two spots, thereby exposing bare metal to the microwave energy and causing burning and sparking. I covered up the spots with cloth tape to stop the sparking but I feel that this is potentially a safety hazard that LG should correct. I contacted LG via e-mail but since the oven is past the 6 month warranty they will not fix this defect at no charge. The oven is working fine otherwise. A service call expense would exceed the value of the oven and were it involving some other part of the oven I’d understand LGs position. However, I feel that in this case there is the potential for leakage of microwave energy or at least the possibility of a fire if additional paint comes off.

The product, in the report: LG LMV1813ST Over the Range Microwave
My wife was in the living room when she smelled something burning in the kitchen. Nothing was cooking and no appliances had been turned on but when she walked into the kitchen the LG Microwave was on fire. It had started up by itself and caught fire. She called a neighbor to help with the fire but it went out after a few minutes. The entire interior of the unit is destroyed. An LG technician is coming tomorrow to “determine the cause”. The unit is less than one year old and is under warranty.

The product, in the report: LG Over the stove microwave. Model #LMVM2075ST/02
The microwave continues to run at full power when the door is shut and the panel buttons indicate the microwave is off. Pressing cancel and stop button has no affect, the microwave can only be stopped by unplugging it or leaving the door open. I called LG customer service and they were not too concerned and suggested unplugging and waiting for it reset. We waited two hours for the microwave to cool down while unplugged. After it was fully cooled, we plugged it and closed the door. It began running immediately and got very hot inside within a minute. This appliance is unsafe to have in the house as no appliance should start up and run by itself, especially one that can cause a fire.

We own LG model LRM2060ST SN 006TAXT03514 microwave. On March 17, 2013, the microwave started on its own, when no one was in the kitchen. We heard the microwave start from the other room, and rushed in to turn it off. It would not shut off using the stop/clear button. We had to unplug the microwave to stop operating.

The product, in the report: LG microwave oven, over the oven, stainless steel, Model #LMV1680ST
My microwave oven started to run on its own. I tried to push the stop button and open the door on the microwave,,,but it would not stop running. It was running on full power. My husband had to pull the plug to stop it. It’s a over the oven microwave so the plug is overhead in a cupboard. The stainless steel on the microwave was to hot to touch for 45 minutes after being unplugged! I burnt my finger when touching. I am very fearful of using this microwave. Its a LG and I purchased it at Home Depot. It was purchased in July, 2011. I’ve been trying to get the manufacturer to replace the product but they will not..they said its out of warranty. I believe its a defective product and they should replace it. I will not use it because of the fires being reported on the news and of how HOT it was after we unplugged it. I believe if we hadn’t been home at the time it would have caught on fire. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, [REDACTED]

LG MICROWAVE OVEN MOD. # LCRT1510SV SER.# 109TAKK42-109 12/5/2011-THE UNIT WAS DEAD & CALLED LG SERVICE. 12/7/2011-REPAIRED & FOUND TO HAVE A BURNED OUT CONTROL PANEL. 12/12/2011 PICKED UP THE UNIT FROM LOCAL SHOP 8/14/2012- Unit went dead again. I talked w/LG service and the local store that I went to last time said that they now chanrge $75.00 to determine the problem if the unit is an LG. I stated that it was under warranty and they said that is the way it now is with LG Products. I ended up going to Sunnyvale (which is approx/ 30 miles one way) to have it repaired. The problem turned out to be a burned magnetron.
11/15/2012- Knowing full well that this is beyond the original warranty period, and I don’t have an extended warranty, I called LG. They said to mail a copy of the original sales receipt so they they could see if it will be approved for repair. I did this 2 times and waited to hear from them.
11/27/12- I called and was told to call back tomorrow and talk w. the original person handling the case.
11/29/12- I got tired of waiting so I called again and was told again that I will hear from someone within 24 hours.
12/4/12- At 2:45 I received a call and they said that they would not repair the unit. THE UNIT WAS GIVING TROUBLE ABOUT 1 WEEK BEFORE WARRANTY RAN OUT. The reason I hadn’t called before the unit was out of warranty was because I was in the hospital getting my gall bladder removed with some complications. I was home for a few days recovering and my wife had her appendix explode which caused complications in itself, so I was not in a position to deal with the microwave problem. I explained this to their service people.
The problems that I was having with the microwave: 1. Timer stops but the unit keeps running 2. Timer blinks off and on occasionally as it feels like it 3. Timer repeatedly stopped at 22 seconds but the unit kept running 4. Comes on approx. 3-5 seconds after the timer is set and the start button pushed 5. The unit starts and stops by itself without anything touching any of the buttons or being near the machine.
Because of this problem being a perceived fire hazard. or possibly an explosive hazard, we had elected to unplug the unit after each use, which is quite inconvenient. Also, we have since the beginning of ownership, plugged this unit into an industrial surge and spike protection unit, as we have done with all of our previous units as well, to protect them.
I will include the paperwork from each repair so that it can be verified if necessary.
I will never buy or own another LG product as long as I live, and I will pass this info to anyone who will listen, the internet and to the ends of the earth.
Now I understand why the local merchant wanted a $75 up front deposit, because from his demeanor things seemed as if he was having trouble getting his money from LG, but that is just my opinion. When I called the last time he said at that time it was even more to obtain servce on an LG product, but I didn’t ask how much would be required.
I have never been treated so poorly by any company in my lifetime. People don’t usually treat their customers in this fashion, or at least they never used to. It is a shame that a company the size of LG has to be so petty and produce such a dangerous and shotty product.
I don’t feel sorry for them because as I learned when I was young “you treat people as you want to be treated.”

The product, in the report: LG over-the-range microwave model LMV1680BB, serial number 902TAMA01387
I have a LG over-the-range microwave, model LMV1680BB, serial number 902TAMA01387 which i purchased on May 10, 2009. Recently, it behaved very strangely, and in my view, in an unsafe manner. The issue was that the microwave did not turn off after the time reached the end. Pushing stop did not have any effect. The only way to turn it off was to open the door or to unplug it. Leaving the door open for a while and then closing it still had the microwave come on. I unplugged the unit for a short time and then plugged it back in with the same results. Therefore, I left it unplugged for over a day. When plugged back in, it then behaved normally. It has behaved normally since, but I don’t know if it will happen again.
The concern is that I do not know what caused it to fail, but it did fail in an unsafe manner. If I had not been in the kitchen when it was supposed to turn off, it could have overheated the food causing a fire. I am an engineer, and I’m amazed that it could fail on. It should only fail off.
I contacted LG Customer Service and they did not seem very interested in my concerns. Their only response was that the product was out of warranty.

The microwave was NOT BEING USED. I heard a loud humming/droning noise and the burning smell. It was glowing red hot inside the microwave. When I opened the door, I realized that the glow was coming from behind the input panel where something was burning. I had to quickly pull the plug. Because this happened when the microwave is NOT IN USE, there would have been a fire if no one was home when this happened.
