Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Hotpoint microwave 1.5 cu ft over the range RVM1535DMBB

Our microwave was not in use but became so hot that it busted the glass turntable inside. We did not realize what the noise was until my husband went to use the microwave about half an hour later and when opening the door saw the turntable had broken into several pieces. I was going to clean it out but could feel the extreme heat coming from it. We closed the door back b/c the glass was breaking and heard a loud buzzing sound so we opened the door again and unplugged it. Once it cooled off some I was taking pictures and realized it had actually gotten so hot that it melted part of the glass turntable. Thankfully, we were home when all this happened or else I feel like our home would have burnt down that night.

The product, in the report: GE/Hotpoint convection microwave

My son was popping a bag of microwave popcorn and the metal plate on the microwave itself caught on fire. Flames were inside and when I put them out I burned my hand then unplugged it. I called GE consumer affairs - the repairman came out and said it could not be repaired. GE sent me a $75 rebate for another high end microwave. Seriously? My house could’ve caught on fire if I hadn’t been in the kitchen and reacted so fast. I would’ve expected a replacement. When I went online I saw this has happened WAY too many times, yet they are still selling them?? I threw the rebate away and bought one with a much better reputation.
