The product, in the report: Goldstar over the range microwave

While cooking in our over the range microwave for approximately 15 minutes the fan above the range turned on randomly. I thought I accidentally touched the button so I tried shutting it off. The fan would not shut off. I let it go for about 5 more minutes. I was done cooking but the fan was still running. I went to unplug it so as to make the fan shut off and the plug was quite hot to the touch. About 15 minutes later I plugged the microwave back in and immediately the fan turned on. I didn’t feel safe to keep the microwave plugged in (because of the warmth of the cord) so I left it unplugged. I called the manufacturer (Goldstar/LG). The gentleman, [REDACTED] (badge no 1215) started off very nice. However after he found out that the microwave was manufactured March of 2002 all he had to offer was a technician to come out that I would have to pay for. He told me that, although it may be a manufacturer’s defect, they only warranty for 1 year. I feel this would have very bad consequences if I were to leave our microwave plugged in. We can now only have it plugged in when we are using it (as long as it is quick). We will not use it freely anymore. [REDACTED] did not care. He did not care that this could have caused a fire in my house with my family. He just wanted to charge me for a service call. This microwave was in the remodeled kitchen of the house we purchased in 2004.
