The product, in the report: Under cabinet microwave oven

On 12/24/2017, our GE Profile Microwave Oven’s glass cracked into many pieces cause some to fall out onto our stovetop. The unit was not in use when this happened. It had been used over 1/2 hour, but was off at the time that this happened. My husband was the only one in the kitchen and thank God he was not hurt because glass was all over the floor. My adult son was nearby and came to see what happened because it made a loud noise. Since this happened we have had it taped close and put covering over it to keep anyone from using it.

The product, in the report: GE Over the Range Microwave Oven. Installed built in with venting to outside

I am very scared with the FIRE in my kitchen. The GE Over the Range Microwave caught FIRE. The fire was quick to spread and burned the entire microwave, the cabinets beside and above it. The entire kitchen is “black and the house smells smoke. The fire department powered down the entire house. The fire was advancing to the attic, when the fire fighters were able to put it out. There is major financial impact, as at least, my insurance deductible of a few thousand dollars and the fact that the insurance will up the renewal rate. Please, any advice on how to best proceed? Thanks. [REDACTED] [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: GE MICROWAVE/CONVECTION OVEN Model PT970SR2SS S/N RT612606Q Manufactured in 2010.

Product: GE MICROWAVE/CONVECTION OVEN Model PT970SR2SS S/N RT612606Q Approximate date of manufacture: 2010.

Microwave portion of Control panel - led display (which normally shows time of day when microwave is not being used) went blank. While attempting to restore display by opening and closing microwave door and hitting start, clear, etc buttons on control panel, noticed that the glass tray in the microwave felt warm. Kept monitoring glass tray... It continued to heat up until after a few minutes, it was too hot to touch. Finally sent to circuit panel and shut off all power to microwave and to oven. Then the glass try cooled off. Talked to GE. They claimed no knowledge of any similar problems. Did Internet search and noticed other similar reports of spontaneous operation of microwave, with some reported fires.

The product, in the report: GE MICROWAVE MODEL WES1450DN1BB

My microwave GE model WES1450DN1BB started coming on by itself. It has flashed “reset clock” and “Service needed”. But before this it started coming on by itself, although it could be stopped by opening the door. It happened when we were away for the weekend and thanks to my son for being smart enough to unplug it and not try to use it. In reading other complants on the internet I realize that my house and my children could have went up in flames while I was out of town. It also seems as though GE has never been repsonsive to this problem.

The product, in the report: G.E. MICROWAVE OVEN. IT IS A LARGE OVEN THAT SITS ABOVE A STOVE. I DO NOT HAVE THE NUMBER AS THE DOOR IS CURRENTLY WELDED SHUT. I WILL, HOWEVER, GET THE NUMBER WHEN INSURANCE PEOPLE COME TOMORROW. GE microwave serial number DA 9108805 Model number JVM1631BB 004 and manufacture date was Feb 2001

TODAY WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING DAY OF MY LIFE. I WAS VACUUMING MY MASTER BEDROOM, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SHRIEKING NOISE. I SHUT OFF THE VACUUM AND REALIZED THE SMOKE DETECTOR WAS GOING OFF. I RAN OUT OF MY BEDROOM AND, AS I CAME LEVEL WITH THE KITCHEN/HALL PASS THROUGH BAR, I SAW THAT MY KITCHEN WAS ON FIRE. I GRABBED MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND DOUSED THE FLAMES WHICH, THANKS BE TO GOD, QUICKLY PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE CULPRIT..... A G.E. OVER THE STOVE MICROWAVE OVEN. IT WAS NOT IN USE AND HAD NOT BEEN USED FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS!! I COULD HAVE DIED, AS I WOULD USUALLY HAVE BEEN SLEEPING, I AM A NIGHT NURSE, THANKS BE TO GOD THAT I STAYED UP A LITTLE LONGER THAN USUAL. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND SEE THAT THIS IS GETTING TO BE COMMON, SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED, YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. NOW I AM LEFT FIGHTING WITH MY APARTMENT OWNERS ABOUT WHOSE INSURANCE SHOULD COVER THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGES, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I AM AFRAID TO SLEEP, I HAVE TO KEEP CHECKING THE KITCHEN, MY DAUGHTER LIVES IN THE APARTMENT ABOVE ME, SHE COULD HAVE DIED. THIS WAS 2 IN THE AFTERNOON, FEW PEOPLE ARE HOME AROUND HERE AT THAT TIME. I GUESS THE ONLY LUCKY PART IS THAT I WAS AWAKE AND KNEW HOW TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

The product, in the report: Microwave

My GE microwave (Model WES1450DN1BB) auto-started during the night, becoming extremely hot to the touch. If this had occurred during the day, I’m certain it would have caused a fire.

I have since purchased a new microwave and will never use a GE microwave again. From some on-line research, I understand that this is not an uncommon occurrence with these microwaves, so it is very troubling that GE is able to continue to manufacture these appliances.
