The product, in the report: frigidaire over the range microwave oven, black, 1.7 cu.ft dimensions approximately 29 inches wide, 16 inches high
Would like to report a Frigidaire Product microwave oven Model number FMOS1746BSA. It was a Saturday night when it happened me and my family is already preparing to sleep when we heard a sudden that sounded like an explosion on our kitchen and when we checked it was our microwave oven, glass was all shattered its been idle for that day and we were shock that it happen. We are concerned that its a safety hazard since no one was using it and its a spontaneous glass explosion. We ask Frigidaire/ Electrolux to replace it since we believe that’s its still on warranty, we had the microwave just this February 2026. Its already pre installed from the house that we bought. The technician who checked it labeled it as accidental damage although i already told him that we didn’t do anything. We are being quoted $200 for the parts and technician repair by the service provider that they forward us into. Really concern that it just exploded by itself and good thing no one was hurt. (my kids and my husband could be hurt if we are on the kitchen that time) Hoping you can look on to this matter. Thank you very much.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire microwave fgmv175qfa, stainless steel finish, over the range 1.9 cu ft, open/close with a handle
Frigidaire Gallery Microwave Model# FGMV175QFA Manufactured April 2016, installed in our house July 2016 The microwave turned on and ran by itself, both the inside, and the fan. We could not get it to turn off with any buttons, and opening the door did nothing. The fan buttons did not make the fan turn off. The door was very hot to the touch. We turned off the circuit breaker and I noticed a melted/burnt plastic smell. After keeping it off and airing out the downstairs, we turned the circuit breaker back on just to see, the microwave remained off and operated as normal. I dont trust it to be safe though, so we will be getting rid of it. Thank God we were home to turn it off and unplug it.

No one hurt Made Jun 20, 2024, sent to the company Jul 10, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 25, 2024
The product, in the report: The microwave is an over-the-range type manufactured by Frigidaire / Electrolux. Model Number MWV150KBA / Serial Number KG44215364 / Manufacture Date October 2014. This unit color is black.
I am a fire investigator and was called to investigate a past fire incident concerning an over the range microwave appliance. The occupant had returned home and noticed a burning plastic smell in the apartment. They then found a small fire in the microwave, which was not in use at the time. They described that when they opened the door to the microwave, the issue stopped. When they shut the door, the microwave made a buzzing or humming sound and started burning again. They opened the door back up to make it stop and then called maintenance. They later determined that it was electrical arcing/sparking. They recalled that the microwave had arced in the past as well. They stated that the microwave was last used by their babysitter to warm up a bottle approximately 20 minutes before they got home and noticed the smell and fire inside the microwave.
I visited the apartment to investigate the issue on 6/18/24. I observed soot and heat damage on the glass turntable in the microwave that had caused several sections of turntable to crack and break off. The plastic roller that the turntable sets upon had an area that had burned away. There was soot staining on the bottom of the microwave compartment, and minor soot deposits on the back wall of the cooking compartment. It appeared that the fire occurred between the glass turntable and the bottom of the cooking compartment. There was no evidence of any food or other materials in the microwave or in the fire debris in the bottom. The only materials present were parts of the microwave. I also found the microwave to be relatively clean and without excessive grease or food remnants.
The occupant plugged the microwave back in and I observed that it appeared fine when the door was open. When the door was closed, the microwave made a humming sound and then electrical arcing was observed on the bottom of the cooking compartment near one of the glass shards from the damaged turntable. The microwave was unplugged and there was no further activity.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire stainless microwave model #LFMV1846VFA serial #KG22314803
Purchased a Frigidaire microwave, the metal on the handle started lifting on both sides and we are slicing our hands, children included. I called Frigidaire while my product was still in warranty. Was told the replacement handle was out of stock and one would be shipped to me when the came back in. Several months went by, several more slicing our fingers incidents, I called again. Upon entering the system it asked me “are you calling about your microwave? “ so I was on file. The representative (and supervisor, whom I asked to speak to) told me the item was still not in stock, they can’t find my initial complaint and I’m now out of warranty. They did not care about safety, that myself, my husband or our son were being injured due to their faulty product. They basically dismissed me and my concern.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery above range microwave. FCC ID V68EAM048KYY Made in China. Color: Steel/black Size: W 29 3/4, H 15 7/8
On July 6, 2023, I put a small item in our Frigidaire Gallery above range microwave to heat and all of sudden there was a loud “pop” sound and spark and the whole microwave turned off and the lights went out completely. I thought I was going to have a fire in the kitchen and unplugged it. I then went online to [REDACTED] and found out that alot of people had this problem with this particular brand and stated that the fuse was blown and to replace it. We replaced the fuse for $6.00 but it happened again on July 24, 2023 just like what everyone said on [REDACTED] would happen and that it would occur again and again! The Frigidaire appliances in our home are only four yrs old and what the major home builder installed in our brand new home in 2019. We asked the other homeowners in our community if this occurred to them and over 1/3 of them had already had this happen to them since they purchased their homes. The company Electrolux who makes Frigidaire need’s to conduct a recall on this product before a kitchen fire is started as this is a major health and safety issue at this point.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire FGMV176NTF microwave
We purchased a Frigidaire FGMV176NTF microwave in 2019. Recently, it started to occasionally trip the breaker. After resetting the breaker, it would then work fine. The last time it was reset I heard a vibration. I was concerned it was an electrical sound and turned off the breaker again. It turns out that the vibration was the microwave running.
Fortunately I had left food in the microwave and did not open the door until after I turned off the breaker. The microwave was in a state that should not be possible. The display showed that it had just been powered on. The light and turntable that would normally be on were off. I have no idea what would have happened if I opened the door but it’s conceivable that the microwave would have continued to run.
Based on the last experience we are no longer using this microwave. It is not reliable and potentially dangerous.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire fgmo3067uf built-in microwave Model fgmo3067uf
Frigidaire microwave (model fgmo3067uf)--2 major issues. 1. When you put food in the oven and select the amount of time to cook, the countdown timer starts, however it indicates seconds remaining but each second on the oven can be several actual seconds. For example, if you set cook for 1 minute, on average it cooks for 2 and half minutes as the timer moves very slowly and not at a consistent speed. When you cook for longer times this is a major fire hazard, we have had 2 items catch on fire in the oven while cooking, supposedly for less than a minute, though the malfunctioning cook timer did not stop the oven and we only caught it when the kitchen filled with smoke.
2. In addition, the display occasionally flickers with the sound of an electric buzzing.
The microwave is just over 1 year old with light use. I have contacted Electrolux many times but repeatedly have brushed off, with them stating this is just out of warranty. They finally agreed to send a tech out to look at an electrical issue, however he told me this was “just a poorly designed unit with many technical issues”. Further stating that he “had seen many, many issues with this model”. The company send me a door switch they think is bad, though it is hard to imagine how this affects cooking timer. Once I received the part and contacted them back to install it at their direction, they told me they have no service appointments available.
Due to the internal burning, we can no longer use this unit. Had we cooked something that took several minutes more to cook and had left the room as most would, I can only imagine what could have happened with the fire.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Gallery 1.7 cubic foot over the range microwave oven, Model F6MV176NTF
Frigidaire over the range microwave, Model Number F6MV176NTF. If the microwave is operating, if you open the door something shorts out and it trips the 20 amp breaker on the dedicated circuit. This occurred for months. Finally it got to the point where it would trip the breaker immediately when attempting to start the oven. Judging from online reviews this is a known defect that the manufacturer refuses to address. If something consistently shorts out to ground and trips a breaker, it is a problem. And if someone was using this oven with a poor or missing ground (typical in older homes) they could possibly be electrocuted.

The product, in the report: Microwave Oven
Dear Madams & Sirs from the Safer Products Commission,
Below you will find an email that I sent today to Frigidaire’s customer support service, with a summary of my experience with one of their products. -----------------------------------------------
Hello,
This email serves as notice for Frigidaire that I will be passing my experience with your appliance and your customer services to KY’s State Attorney General, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Better Business Bureau. A copy of this email will be sent to those parties, along with my recorded calls with your customer service.
On December 2nd 2019, I reached out to Frigidaire to report a fire hazard with one of your Microwave units :
Frigidaire Gallery Model # FGMV175QFA Serial # KG64111695
Earlier that day, my wife had loaded a bag of popcorn in the microwave, and after a few seconds, sparks started flying inside, and small yet violent fire started raging inside the microwave. Thank goodness we were standing right there, and we were able to put the fire out.
I explained the situation to your customer service rep and they assured me that they’d have a ‘specialist’ take a look. I made my request very clear, that my primary concern was NOT to have this unit repaired or replaced, my main concern was to have Frigidaire show interest in the safety of their products by conducting an investigation and identifying the root cause.
Frigidaire proceeded to send an appliance repair person with the order to “Sand and paint the unit”. I explained to the technician that that’s not what I was trying to achieve and I refused the repair. One of Frigidaires technicians on the phone mentioned that this was due to “User negligence, since in Page 12 of the manual it’s stated clearly that you should not operate the microwave with the mounted metal grate” – This is a totally false statement. After carefully reading your manual (which I had done before operating the microwave, since it came with the house we had just moved into, and I thought It was unusual for a metal grate to be inside the microwave. There’s only a few references in the manual with recommendations on how to store the grate, but there is no mention in the manual to not operate the microwave with the grate mounted) .
I followed that visit with another call to your repair center, I was given a different case number. One of your agents [REDACTED] ensured me that she’d do her best to escalate my issue. A few days ago, she called me back, ensuring me that they’d arrange for a ‘true specialist’ to come investigate the issue
This morning at around 10:00am, a tech [REDACTED] from the company [REDACTED] came to our house with the instructions to assess the repair of our unit. He spent about an hour on the phone with Frigidaire’s tech support, doing his best to convey to your Techs that our intent was for them to investigate. He was told by Frigidaire that the only action that they’d approve would be to “Sand and paint”.
I have also attempted several times to create a ticket on Frigidaire’s website (https://www.frigidaire.com/Owner-Center/Contact-Us/) neither the chat nor the ‘email forms’ are working properly (I tried 3 different computers, 4 different web browsers). [REDACTED] was extremely patient and helpful. And his ‘unofficial’ assessment of the root cause coincides with my suspicions – this is based on a rather rudimentary understanding of physics and electronics. But the cause seems to be a combination of material fatigue of both, the mounts for the grates and the paint at the back of the grates. The grate seems to cause wear on the paint, exposing the metal, then under certain conditions, the arcs can reach the plastic mounts, which get heated up, causing a fire inside.
As a father of a family with two small children, it is hard for me to believe that a company like Frigidaire has shown absolutely no concern in the safety of their products, despite several attempts from my part to make them aware of this. I have lost my confidence in Frigidaire’s customer service and so I will now search for other means to accomplish my goals.
[REDACTED].

The product, in the report: Microwave oven
We have a Frigidaire Microwave oven that’s not more than 4 years old. The oven has a feature called sensor cook which is supposed to sense the food you are cooking and automatically adjust cook time and power level being used and then shut off when it senses the food is done cooking. I’ve used this feature several times for cooking a potato. One time I noticed the microwave was cooking the potato a bit long and stopped the microwave and the potato was very over cooked. I just figured it was a flook. After several more times the feature worked as it should, but the last time it did not. Yesterday I went to cook a potato with sensor cook and this time I wasn’t in the kitchen to catch it and it not only overcooked the potato it started the potato on fire. If my brother-in-law hadn’t walk into the kitchen because he smelled smoke it may have started a house fire. When the microwave door was opened the potato was on fire and the house was filled with heavy smoke that still exists in the house and microwave. We both were extremely upset about what could have happened. When we figured the microwave didn’t do what it was supposed to I said this product needs to be recalled. So today after looking for recalls on Frigidaire microwaves I noticed a string of comments from others who had the same problem with Frigidaire microwaves, further proving that Frigidaire needs to recall this product. Here is the link to the complaints: [REDACTED] I would like this product to be recalled before something serious happens. [REDACTED]

My Frigidaire microwave trips the circuit breaker when someone accidentally pulls the door while the oven is still on. I called Frigidaire and they said it’s normal. It does’t happen with any other microwave I have used in my life. Tripping the circuit breaker implies a shorting in the circuitry and a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: This is an over the range microwave oven 1.7 cubic foot
I investigated a building fire on 3-24-2019 for cause and origin . The fire was caused by a microwave oven that caught fire . The oven a Frigidaire Gallery series , model FGMV173BC was not in use and had not been used for over 18 hours. The unit caught fire in the upper part of the oven where the exhaust fan was located . The fan had not worked in over a year and a half . The property owner had a service person look at and he stated that the most probable cause of the malfunctioning fan was that the control panel was defective . The replacement cost would be more than the cost of a new model so it was never repaired . The unit wasn’t take apart at any time and had no other repairs . The control panel was not damaged .
In summary the unit caught fire in the upper portion of the unit . This caused over $60,000 estimated damage at this time . The concern is how this caught fire as it was powered but not being utilized . There were no injuries as the home was occupied at the time . However had it not been occupied and occupants not notified by the working smoke detectors , this certainly could have been a tragedy

While using the Frigidaire microwave, our circuit breaker trips if you open the door of the microwave while it is running. The door of the microwave is misaligned. It has been misaligned since we purchased the microwave but other than being difficult to open & close it had not caused any other issues until recently. In addition, 3 or 4 other neighbors in our newly developed neighborhood are also experienced the same problem. All of our homes were built around 2017 by the same builder who used the same Frigidaire vendor.
The point of the safety switch on the door is to keep the microwave from operating when the door is misaligned or partially opened. No-one wants to be exposed to microwave energy while heating up their coffee. Microwave energy is harmful to humans.

This consumer purchased his microwave around the September/October time frame in 2017 he noticed very recently that sometimes he would turn the 30 second push ring microwave to 30 seconds to warm something it would automatically go to four minutes. The most recent incident with this change of time was January 8th or 9th, 2017 when he was warming a cup of coffee and the time changed to four minutes. He is reporting this as a burn and scald hazard also stating that if a young child were to take the cup out of the microwave they could have been badly scalded. There are no injuries being reported at this time He does not plan to contact the manufacturer. Contacted store that sold the product.

The product, in the report: Over the counter microwave oven
Over the counter microwave caught fire (electrical fire) when not in use. No food or other objects were in microwave at the time. It had been used to warm leftovers about 1/2 hour before fire. Strong smell of burning plastic and electrical components. Unplugged it and dismounted from wall and took outside. Very hot. Could have burned house down if we were not present.

Notified Frigidaire and they had no interest in problem as it was out of warranty.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel Frigidaire countertop microwave. 1100 watts, manufactured June 2011
Microwave oven randomly turned itself on and off throughout the day. The timer showed “0:00” and the light did not turn on, so the only way to know that the oven turned itself on was the sound of the fan.
Once discovered, I pushed the stop button, but it did not stop the operation. I opened the door, which stopped the oven from operating. The glass plate had a large circular crack with black burn marks around it, and black marks were on the floor of the oven underneath that spot.
The exterior of the oven was very warm to the touch. I unplugged the oven and will no longer use it.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Professional Series built-in Microwave
We are renting the house we live in. The Frigidaire Professional series built-in microwave PLMBZ209GCA turned on by itself and started electric fire. We smelled the electric burning and discovered that the microwave was on (with nothing in it). We opened the door and the fire was still burning for a while, coming from underneath the glass plate, melting the plastic rotation device. After the fire burned out, the electric panel is still on and appears working. Since we never use microwave, and never used this one in two years living in this house, we were shocked. Until the incident we have never heard of appliance turning on by itself. But after searching, found many similar reports. Luckily, we were at home to catch it on time and nobody was harmed.

The glass tray rotates, fan, etc is heard and can only be stopped when door is closed or unplugged . Called Frigidaire for repair or replacement and would only repair if I paid for it. The product, in the report: over the range microwave
I work for a retirement community that purchased over 100 Frigidaire over the range microwaves for a several year time period. One of these microwaves recently had a fan motor short out WHILE NOT IN USE and start a fire. The resident was in sleeping at the time of the fire. Staff responded to the fire alarm and found flames had already started coming out of the vents in the front of the microwave, so a small aerosol extinguisher was used. The flames came back as the resident was being evacuated, so a larger 5lbs. dry chemical extinguisher was used to extinguish the flame. Smoke had filled the top 2’-3’ of the room. As soon as possible the microwave was removed from the room and torn down. We found the fan motor had shorted out and started the fire (we presume). The microwave is two years old, so out of its one year warranty period. When a call was placed to Frigidaire they didn’t seem surprised to hear about the fire, but instead offered a parts discount for any parts needed to repair our microwave. Since the microwave is now covered in dry chemical, we declined.

when I was heating up baby food. I set it for 10 seconds, walked away to put my baby in his chair, walked back and the micro was still going, which I thought was too long. I opened the door and watched a second to see if the food was overheated and bubbling, which it looked fine. I took it out and put the spoon in to stir it and it exploded on me, the floor, the cabinets the ceiling, everything! I had burns to my face and wrist to which I still have the scar on my wrist. I didnt do anything at that time because I gave it the benefit of the doubt that MAYBE I had put an extra 0 or somehow hit the wrong button. BUT more and more afterwards I noticed it would keep going and time would not go down. It also turns on by itself sometimes when you just close the door. This means the whole baby food episode was not my fault. And thank GOD I didnt have the baby in my arms at the time.

During the night on 8/19/14, our Frigidaire microwave oven turned itself on and ran for hours, getting very hot in the process. The 1.1 cu ft 1100-Watt Countertop FRIGIDAIRE FFCM1134LS Microwave was taken out of the box in April of this year, and was only used three times. When contacted, Frigidaire said they were made with defective control panels, but would not refund or replace the microwave. This happened two weeks before we planned to leave for a week away from home. It could have easily started a fire in that time.

I used the microwave to heat a cup of coffee on 11/21/13 and was sitting about 5 feet away for several minutes before the oven suddenly switched on without anyone near it and nothing inside. I quickly moved to look at the display which indicated it was counting down from 4 min--was showing 3:58” . I hit Stop and opened the door and unplugged the unit. I called the store that I bought it from today and also contacted Frigidaire and reported the incident. I do not want another of these since it is the 2nd of this exact model that I have had since May. This one was a replacement for the original that stopped beeping last July. if there is even a remote chance that any of these could operate when the owner is not home--this Frigidaire counter-top microwave model should be recalled. It is model FFCM1134LS and serial number KG31653362 and was delivered 8/8/13.

Frigidaire Microwave Model# FMV157GB on several different occasions in the past 2 years the microwave would not turn off, but that would only last for a second or two. In the past 2 months the microwave will continue to run until you open the door and shut it. When the microwave was first purchased within a year the handle broke and the plastic around the door cracked. This was replaced and within 6 months the plastic around the handle cracked again and today the handle completely broke off. This microwave is dangerous and not trust worthy. I have read several complaints about the same problem with other people with the same microwave. Something really needs to be done about this.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel built in oven and microwave
Simply cooking popcorn in the Microwave, it began crackling and popping, then fire was seen on the inside of the unit at the wave directer area and with some smoke. I turned off the unit and found that the wave director cardboard installed on the inside of the unit had been charred and burned all the way through. The Microwave is part of the Electrolux built in elecric oven. According to a service tech, the unit is not safe. To repair the whole unit has to be taken out of the cabinet, and the Microwave would have to be rebuilt. There is no specification for or way to replace just the microwave. There is no warranty and the whole unit has to be replaced.

The product, in the report: Microwave-Oven combination
While watching TV, I noticed a flckering light coming from our microwave oven. It was empty and not operating. I went to the kitchen, opened the microwave and saw a flame, approximately 6 inches in length coming from the magnetron area of the microwave. I doused the flame and called my wife to observe. When I opened the microwave door again, and left it open, no flames occured. I then put a ceramic coffee cup, half full of water, in the oven and put the power on for 30 seconds. Immediately, the magnetron area turned a bright glowing red. I stopped the experiment and left the microwave door open the rest of the night. The next morning I called the maker, Frigidaire (Electolux Home Products) and reported the incident. They let me know that the two-year old microwave was out of warranty. I then reported it as a sfaety hazard, and was issued a case file number:[REDACTED]. There seemed to be no concern on the part of the customer service representative. She did provide me the p/n for the magnetron, if I wanted to have it repaired. Of course, I did not want the hazard in our house any longer. Since we had the house built only 2 1/2 years earlier, I contacted the builder who came to investigate, pulled the microwave out of it’s position on top of the oven( it was a microwave/oven combination) and later sent an e-mail to Frigidaire concerning the incident. I have since replaced the faulty and hazardous microwave with another brand, and had my builder install it, after I checking wiring etc. I have kept the hazardous microwave on the garage floor, awaiting dispostion.

The product, in the report: 1.6CU FT. BUILT IN MICROWAVE
The consumer purchased a new microwave oven just over 3 years ago. It has been subject to normal household use since that time. The door hinges have come off the frame and now do not hold the door closed properly. The consumer paid to have an authorized service man come and repair this. He informed that the problem could not be fixed because the hinges were welded to the frame and the weld failed. There may be a safety issue with this problem. The owner’s manual has all kinds of warnings about not running the unit with the door open. The door does shut with this problem and the unit will operate. But it is not as tight as before. The greater risk is that the door will fall off altogether when the door is opened. The unit is installed over the range.

My microwave oven stopped functioning. The technician who repaired it said the door switch had melted from the heat. Fortunately it was stuck in the off position, otherwise it would have kept the oven functioning forever until manually stopped, which could be potentially disastrous.
