  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 10, 2026, sent to the company Apr 17, 2026, published by CPSC May 1, 2026

The product, in the report: 24-inch built-in microwave drawer, stainless steel color, 1.2 cubic foot capacity, 1000 watts output, 120V 60Hz. Exterior dimensions 23.8 inches wide, 24.5 inches deep, 15 inches high. Manufactured February 2024. The unit is designed to be permanently installed inside kitchen cabinetry as a drawer-style microwave. Purchased from Home Depot approximately 1.5 years ago.

I own a Cosmo COS-12MWDSS-NH 24-inch built-in microwave drawer, purchased from Home Depot approximately 1.5 years ago. During normal use - heating water in microwave-safe clear glass - the unit began producing visible electrical arcing and loud zapping sounds inside the cooking cavity. I immediately stopped the microwave. This occurred on multiple occasions. The most recent incident was severe enough to leave a permanent black scorch mark on the interior cavity wall. The carbon residue from the scorch mark is conductive, causing repeated arcing to the same spot and worsening the damage with each use. This presents a fire hazard. I contacted Cosmo and was told the 1-year warranty had expired. No replacement parts are available. I am also aware of at least one other consumer review describing a fire occurring behind this same model. No injuries occurred, but continued use poses a serious fire risk, particularly as this is a built-in appliance installed inside kitchen cabinetry.

  2. No one hurt

Made Oct 7, 2024, sent to the company Oct 22, 2024, published by CPSC Nov 5, 2024

The product, in the report: Cosmo Microwave, Model Number COS-12MWDSS, Serial Number 12MWDSS2208280199-MDA, Black and Silver, FCC ID VG8EM034DYYM

The microwave has a sliding drawer instead of a traditional door on a hinge. One of the wheels on the back, right-hand side of our drawer has created an arc with the side wall of the microwave cavity. The company will not offer a repair or replacement without considerable consumer cost, despite various reviews and posts online showing this to be a common and frequent occurrence. Their warranty is non-transferrable, and requires the consumer to pay a $150 shipping fee, and manage the shipping of the product to a qualified technician for repair, when the warranty is in effect. For us, who do not have a warranty because we bought the house from someone and the warranty does not transfer ownership, the replacement part can not be isolated. We would need to replace the entire drawer for $250, plus shipping, and either assemble and install it ourselves, or hire a technician to do so. I believe there is a defect in design and/or materials causing a consistent failure and poses a risk of injury, since it is difficult to notice the arcing in the microwave because many of these units are installed in lower cabinets, below eye level, where it is easy to not see the issue happening. Individuals hard of hearing or in other areas of the home while the unit is in use may not hear the popping sounds of the arcing and fires may occur quickly and easily.
