The product, in the report: Danby Chest Freezer

I purchased a Danby chest freezer at Costco. We immediately noticed that the freezer top locked after we shut it. Initially we thought it was a safety feature but could not find a release, nor could we find any info on it locking in the manual or on Danby’s website. We contacted Danby today-their customer service person told us it was not possible for this to happen and that we should pull harder or put vegetable oil on the gasket to make it easier to open. Or, to return it if we were not happy with it. We do plan to return it, however I have many concerns about the potential safety concerns of this and who knows how many other units. My husband and 20 year old son were not able to force the lid open until several minutes later when it opened without any problem. If a child were to get into it-witnessed or not there would be no way to open the top. As a RN and a mom I am very concerned about the potential for injury with this product and wanted to let someone besides the manufacturer know, Thanks.
