I received a recall notice for my steamer. I have not used it since I was sprayed with hot water. The burns were not enough to seek medical help. I was not aware that there was something wrong with the steamer as I didn’t report it when it happened. Now that I see it’s recalled, I will definitely not use it.

I had purchased the Joy Mangano My Little Steamer and Go Mini Shine like a Gen set with Glam bag from Amazon and it started leaking and spraying water. The water did not burn my skin but it did stain and irrepably ruin the dress I was steaming. I assumed that I had somehow ruined the steamer and purchased a new one as it had been pretty amazing prior to that and still had the best reviews I could find on Amazon and [REDACTED].

I was using the Joy Mangano Little Steamer, as directed, steaming curtains, so holding the device upright. Without warning the water came violently spitting out, all over my left hand. My left index finger bore the brunt of the boiling water, and a huge blister formed immediately. I promptly threw the steamer in the trash! I am still healing, but fear there will be permanent damage.

I took out the Joy Mangano “My Little Steamer” on 10/1/14 to steam my 23 month old daughter’s Halloween costume. I noticed the steamer had corrosion since it had not been used in a while. I followed the directions to clean the unit with half water/half vinegar & plugged the unit in as directed. In the meantime, my daughter came in from outside & needed her bare feet cleaned since she ran outside with no shoes. I picked her up & put her in the kitchen sink to wash her feet. All of a sudden the steamer which was sitting at least 3 feet away started exploding like a water gun shooting hot scaulding water & vinegar at us. My daughter immediately started screaming!!! After unplugging the steamer & attending to my daughter I realized she had been burned. I washed her leg with cold water & applied burn cream. A few hours later this red spot on her leg began to bubble & blister. I covered her leg with more cream & gave her ibuprofren for the pain because by then she was so worn out from crying that she fell asleep. By the next morning my daughters skin was falling off her leg. I immediately took her to the ER, once there they told us she had 2nd degree burns & she needed to see a burn center. After having her skin peeled off her leg & creams & bandages applied day after day for over a month you can imagine that a now 2 year old is severely traumatized from this event. After researching this product I have found so many complaints & others speaking about the steamer exploding. They have even changed the steamers design. I ask...why has this product not been recalled? I just hope no one else has to go through the same thing. I myself was 6 months pregnant & could have been burned severely.

My mother was using the Joy Mangano My little steamer. She filled up water as per instructions to the fill line indicated. I walked past her and slightly bumped into her. Moving her hand slightly this causes boiling water to spill out of the top onto my arm causing a bad burn. The burn is possible 2nd degree as i have extensive redness and blistering. I have photos. This happened at approx 9pm march 19. My safety concern is that with even the slightest movement of this product the water spills put of the top. The water should not come out so easily. I called and spoke to [REDACTED] at ingenius products and her attitude was movement can make this happen however this product is such that you have to move it in order for it to work. Yes movement in an up down fashion is required however if there was a senior citizen and their arm started to shake that would be enough movement to expel the boiling water etc. i fin it hard to believe a safety valve cant be installed. Again i have pics that i can forward with my injury as there is a high chance of scarring potential.

I received second degree burns when a Joy Mangano steamer was knocked over and the water poured from the steam holes like a geyser. I believe there is a defect in the design. There should be some kind of safety on the machine that does not allow boiling hot water to pour from it if it is tipped or knocked over. I was shocked and horrified when after steaming my clothes I was severely burned and had to receive medical treatment. My fear is what if a younger person had been using the steamer? I am just perplexed as to why a product is sold to consumers and it has the possibility to injure and permanently scar people.
