  1. No one hurt

Made May 12, 2022, sent to the company May 26, 2022, published by CPSC Jun 10, 2022

The product, in the report: Badger 5 dispoal

On the 8th of May 2022: The Badger5 disposal that was installed under my kitchen sink, suddenly turned on all by itself--no one turned it on. When i opened the doors under the sink, there was a noticeably burned wire smell. I unplugged the disposal and a few minuteds later, I tried to plug it back in--sparks flew out of the box and smoke was coming out of the holes in the outlet. I unplugged it again and threw the cord to the plug in accross under the sink. I have an electrician here from “Well-Connected” and he has told me that the disposal is burned out, and the plug in/switch outlet is competely burned out with a hole the size of a silver dollar in the side of it. If this had happened during the night with no one in the kitchen, it could have caused a fire and my house could have burned down.

The product, in the report: Garage disposal

At approximately 2 am on 4/29/2020. I woke up to a strange motor running. I went to the kitchen and noticed the garage disposal was running. I attempted to turn it off using the sink top press button. But the disposal continued to run and started to smell of burning electric components. We were able to unplug the unit forcing the product to stop and avoid further damage.
