The product, in the report: walmart model 16041 rival 2 slice toaster
was using this toaster to toast a couple of slices of bread...set it on low..as I just wanted them a little crisp...was gonna go back a get them latter as I was doing something else at the time...well a couple of mins. latter the smoke detector sounds....so I go into the kitchen and the thing is on fire and the melted plastic has the top of the counter on fire also..and the bottom of the cabinets were ready to go...at first I was gonna use the dry chemical fire extinguisher that I keep by the smoke alarm...but then seen the sink had water in it...pulled the plug...wet a towel so as try to catch the melted burning plastic from hitting the floor (vinyl) but still some did burn holes in that ...tossed it in the sink..then took more wet towels to cool the counter top..another couple of seconds and I think the counter would have gone up as it had burnt though the protection

The product, in the report: WalMart Rival Toaster #16041
I purchased a Wal-Mart Rival toaster within the last 6 months. Model # 16041 UL listed #54J9 E81296. I toasted two english muffins smelled something strange and noticed the unit caught fire.
The top part of the plastic housing melted-shrunk exposing more of the metal toaster frame.
I cut the plug off and I’m still in possession of the toaster and plug . Luckily the damage was contained to the toaster.

The product, in the report: Walmart/Rival Model 16041 Toaster
The resident placed two pieces of bread in the toaster, then went to change her daughter’s diaper. When she returned, the toaster was on fire. She tried to extinguish the flames, but it would not go out, so she called 911 and went outside. Upon inspection of the toaster, I noticed that the left toasting lever was still depressed and hooked into the temp. sensing wire, while the right lever had disengaged.
