The product, in the report: I had placed a bagel in the toaster set to 3.5 minutes as I always have with this same toaster. But for some reason about half way through the set time, the toaster malfunctioned causing the outer coils to get extremely and catch the bagel on fire. Meanwhile the coils on the inner walls appeared to be working fine because the inside part of the bagel was hardly toasted.
I had placed a bagel in my 2-slice rival toaster 16041 and set to 3.5 minutes as I always have with this toaster. While it was toasting for some reason the outside coils for extremely hot causing the outside of the begal to catch fire. Luckily I was two feet away doing dishes. Meanwhile the inside of the bagel is hardly toasted.

My wife was making toast in a Rival 2 slice toaster. After the toast was finished she removed it and went into the next room. A few moments later she heard a “POP” And went back into the kitchen to find the toaster on fire. She unplugged it and pushed it into the sink. The fire burnt the counter top but she caught it before it did any other damage. I have several pictures of the toaster and the counter top.

The product, in the report: Rival 2-slice toaster Model #16041
Rival toaster was placed on kitchen counter and plugged into the wall, subject walked across the kitchen to get something, when they turned around to walk back over to the toaster, the toaster on fire with flames coming out of the top. Subject immediately unplugged the toaster and safely put out the fire. Thankfully no injuries were obtained and the fire did not spread. If the subject would not have been in the same room immediately after plugging the toaster in, or the toaster was left plugged in prior, this fire would have consumed the residence and lead to a total loss for a family of 6, as all other family members were at work and school. Locally their was a house fire last year in which lead to a total loss for another family, which was caused by the same toaster. The local Fire Commissioner was contacted and he confirmed that it was the same toaster as ours, the Rival, and they reported the incident through the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The product, in the report: White 4 slice toaster by Rival model # RV949 plastic.
A four slice toaster Model # RV949 purchased at Walmart was in our breakroom heating without either one of the bread plungers pushed down. The heating elements should not have been heating without the plungers being pushed. The toaster became very hot and we could smell the scent of something burning. THis is a fire hazard for a toaster to remain on and heating after the plungers have popped up. We had to unplug the toaster to shut it off.

The product, in the report: 2 slice toaster, white
I purchased a Rival 2 slice toaster from Walmart a month ago. When the toast is done and the lever pops up, the toaster does not shut off. The coils remain hot and red until you unplug the toaster from the outlet. This is faulty and I feel can cause a house fire. I contacted Rival but was told that they are not responsible for it since it is a Walmart exclusive product that they have just lent their name to. I would like to see this faulty product removed from the shelves. It is just my good fortune that I noticed that it is faulty.

Hurt, care not known Made Nov 3, 2011, sent to the company Dec 16, 2011, published by CPSC Jan 3, 2012
The product, in the report: toaster
Thursday October 27, my son like any other day used the toaster to toast 2 pieces of bread, and while he was waiting for the toaster he started to brush his teeth and getting ready for school. He heard a popping noise and waled to the Kitchen and the toaster was on fire.
I called Rival, Rival gave me another number I called that number and was told to go to Wall-mart, I went to Wallmart and they told me that it is not there issue. I contacted BBB and found out the Rival has a F rating. I did make my complaint with them as well.
Can you provide any help with this issue we have the reminder of the toaster in our possession and attached are the pictures of the toaster and the damages.
Thank you,

The product, in the report: rival two slice cool wall toaster in black model # TT9260-WN
toaster was on fire and the whole casing melted on kitchen counter while putting muffin to toast on4/25/11. I brought this to the product claim dept attention on 5/5/11, took me a while to get the dept who is responsible . they did not have good faith in accepting the claim and deny compensation to me. on 8/9/11, i refile the claim to them continue the issue was never address and ignored. this product if not watch out could set the place on fire and toaster was not suppose to be ‘supervised’ monitored while toasting items in there. if this product can’t be used unattended, is not safe to be in the market. if you wish to see the full claim supporting documents, please let me know how to give you the full detail of my claim.
