The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 2 Slice Toaster with Extra- Wide Slots, Black, 22217
Out of nowhere this insanely loud like vibrating noise I could feel and hear started coming from the kitchen thought it was the broken fridge maybe, it kept getting louder and louder I let the pets out (this all occurred in under like 1-2 mins lol) covered my head and went toward the kitchen and the noise just kept getting more and more intense like a bomb about to go off
And then BAM a crazy loud sound like a rifle and a flash of light I hit the floor cuz, well I’ve had a lot of “fires” in my life and just general bad luck lol… anyway… the noise stopped and I finally stood up and loooked and the toaster had little like insulation coming out of the top all like toasted hahaha and the plug was hanging half out of the outlet

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach stainless 2 slot toaster, model number 22811
I had used the toaster early in the morning (@7:30). About 6:00 PM, my husband and son were upstairs in our home. My son smelled something and went downstairs to check it out. He came down and found the toaster sparking and in flames. My husband was able to get it unplugged and threw several bowls of water on it, putting it out. My husband sustained mild 2nd degree burns from the cord melting and hitting his hand as he unplugged it from the wall.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 2 Slot Toaster, model 22785, chrome finish
Three times since we purchased our toaster on May 9, 2020 the toaster got into a dangerous state. Each time the incidents occurred we were toasting bagels. After several minutes we noticed smoke coming out of the toaster and the toaster had not automatically stopped. Clicking the ‘Cancel’ button had no effect - the elements stayed on and the bagels continued to burn. The only way I could get the toaster to stop was to unplug it. The toaster itself became *extremely* hot to the touch, and there was a distinct smell of burning toaster parts (perhaps plastic, rubber, or metal).
After the toaster cooled down it appears the problem is that the metal piece the bread or bagel sits on gets dislodged easily and stuck on the inside of the toaster itself. This must prevent the toaster from turning off and popping up the bagel/toast. We had an older model that also had the metal piece dislodge occasionally, but it didn’t prevent the toaster from turning off (it just made it hard to get the toast out).
I feel this is an extremely dangerous appliance. If we had walked away or been distracted, there is no doubt the bagel would have caught on fire (it was very close). I also am made to wonder what would happen to the toaster unit itself if it were left on indefinitely.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 4 slice Toaster Model 24121 Series B0351Bi
My toaster failed to pop up and continued heating the toast to the point of ignition, presenting a fire hazard. I contacted Hamilton Beach, manufacturer of the toaster, after reading of recalls of their products for the same issue. When I supplied the model number, they indicated that it was not one of the current recall toasters. I explained that I would be filing a report with you.

No one hurt Made Nov 18, 2018, sent to the company Feb 14, 2019, published by CPSC Mar 4, 2019
The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 2-slot toaster.
I purchased a Hamilton Beach 2-slot toaster at the local Fred Meyer store. When using the toaster, I discovered that it does not pop up when done but continues to cook and ultimately burn the item in the toaster. The pop-up when done feature fails to work. The Hamilton Beach model number is: 22790 and the Series is A2781B1.
I did a Google search for Hamilton Beach recalls and found that this toaster was recalled in 2008 and again in 2011. The pictures of these two recalled toasters is identical to the one I just purchased. It seems the toaster problem has not been fixed from previous recalls and has simply been put back on the market.
The only thing I can do now, is throw it out and call it a total loss. I didn’t save my receipt as I have never owned a bad toaster before.
Can you help with this? Recall this toaster please and if there is anyway to recover my $39 that would be great, too. Thanks.

The product, in the report: 2-Slice Toaster with digital controls.
Hamilton Beach 2-slice toaster model 22501 series A4631DM. This toaster worked perfectly for about a year. I loved it. Then suddenly while cooking breakfast I noticed that the toast was burning dark black. The eject button would not work, and lifting “up” on down lever did not work. The electronic digital buttons looked hot and dark. There was no way to turn the unit off as the toast continued to smoke. If I had not been standing there my house would have likely experienced a serious kitchen fire or worse.
I pulled the plug, with sparks galore.
This model is not on a recall list, but perhaps it should be. I will replace with a different model from a different manufacturer.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Toaster. Type T 95 Model 226142 with an 8-inch cord
This toaster only has an 8-inch cord. Any way you use it is a danger. Instructions state this is for safety. Directions then state that if a longer cord is needed use an extension cord. The first time I used this toaster I had to turn my dish rack upside down sit the toaster on it which still strained the cord and then moved the top of the toaster only 7 inches from the bottom of my cabinets. Adding an extension cord will increase fire risk and chance of a child pulling this off the counter. A cord at least 18 inches long would be better.

The product, in the report: 2-slot toaster
When toasting an [REDACTED] brand waffle in a Hamilton Beach toaster my wife and I began to smell something that we did not initially attribute to the toaster. When the smoke alarm went off, however, we determined that it was the waffle. The “wire bread guides” in the toaster open wider than the sheet metal toast slots above. When the waffle was “toasted,” the bread guides attempted to lift it, but the waffle caught the edge of the upper sheet metal toast slot, preventing the waffle from lifting and preventing the toaster from shutting off. Had we not been attentive to the situation we could have had a fire caused by a burning waffle or anything in the area heated by the toaster and waffle. This is an unacceptably hazardous design. No injuries or property loss were sustained.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach toaster model 22504. Two-slot toaster, brushed metal finish.
Investigated a kitchen fire in a sprinkler apartment. The sprinkler system extinguished fire early on and its obvious the fire started at the toaster. The plastic bottom melted out onto the counter top. We found burnt French bread in the toaster. We also found the handle in the down position.
We got an exemplar and tried to start a fire with French bread. No luck despite repeataed cycles of toasting. All of the heat is vented up and out of the toast slots. Recorded only ambient temperatures on the plastic bottom.
Next we introduced a fire at the printed circuit board where the power cord attached. Produced almost identical fire damage to the kitchen. We think this started inside the control area and probably was NOT due to operator misuse or error. Furthermore, we learned that the post-fire position of the toaster handle is a function of fire damage, not the pre-fire position of the toaster handle. We are Certified Fire Investigators, not electrical engineers. Consequently we’re submitting this to CPSC for review.

My wife placed a piece of toast in the “ONE SLICE” side of toaster. A minute or two later there were flames shooting out of the opposite side of toaster. Once the flames were extinguished, there was a strong burnt plastic smell. Since we always empty the crumb tray, food residue was not the cause. I have a photo of the damage if needed.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 4 slice toaster . chrome/black color
We had put bread in our toaster to toast, only to come back a few minutes later out of a room upstairs, to a house filled with black smoke! The toaster did not pop up like it was suppose to and the cancel button didn’t even work to stop it when i went running down to see what was going on. I had to unplug the toaster and force the knob up to stop it from toasting. The bread was burnt to a charred black little piece of a fire waiting to happen!! I have 2 children under the age of 3 and a puppy and we were all exposed to the terrible strong black smoke. We live in MN and it is the middle of winter, so it’s not like we can just run out of the house or open all the doors and windows and let the house air out for days. It was a very dangerous and scary situation for my family, and left our house smelling of smoke soot for weeks on end. I contacted Hamilton Beach immediately from the information I had on the bottom of the toaster and they said they would replace it once they received our old one. It took them 5 weeks to get a new one mailed out to us. This is a daily appliance we use in our household. So, today, we finally received the new one via UPS. We opened it and plugged it in to test it out...the very first time we pushed the handles down in the toasting position, the right one blew out w/a loud sound and sparks. We tried it a second time, and it did this very same thing again...we immediately unplugged it and will not be using this brand new toaster we were just sent as a replacement. Another very scary incident w/the very same brand of toaster. We are very very disgusted with hamilton beach and their toaster appliance...not to mention the unfriendly customer service when speaking to them!!!!!!!!!!!

The product, in the report: Hamilton beach four slice stainless toaster. Model 24600
Hamilton beach 24600 4 slice toaster. The toaster has burned things, smoked and sparked for several months. Lowering the settings did little to resolve this issue. My 13 year old was burned while trying to remove her toast. I contacted Hamilton beach and they said this model was not recalled but they could send me out the same toaster for $19.95 shipping. I would rather buy a new roster than have the same problems again. I think this toaster has the same issues as the recalled two slice version, 22600.

We have a Hamilton Beach Toaster, Model 22145, Series B5250BI. I contacted Hamilton Beach via email with no response. I did the check for recall on their web site and it shows this particular toaster not to be involved in the recall. However, since using the toaster, I have noticed a spot on my countertop, probably from heat from the toaster. I just wanted to see if this series toaster should be added to the hamilton beach recall. Thank you.

The product, in the report: metal two slice toaster
Toaster: Model and Serial Numbers 22560 B3540BI My toaster is older than the ones that were just put on recall, however, they look the same (just an older model) and they have the same defect. Sometimes (25%-50%) of the time the toaster will not pop-up after toasting the toast. It will remain the the toasting position burning the toast. The only way to stop it is to manually push the lever up. There is a cancel button on the toaster, when the toast is stuck down burning the cancel button does not work either. It will not stop the toaster from cooking or pop the toast up. It has been doing this for many years. I must always stand by the toaster while toasting, because I am fearful of a fire.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Toaster model 22145 series B2350B1
I burned myself on the metal part of the toaster where the toast is inserted. The burn was small and so I didn’t think too much of it. However last night my 11 year old grandson was by the counter when I was toasting some bread and he did the same thing by touching his arm on this part of toaster and he got a rather bad burn about 3 inches long. I noticed that the metal part at the top of this toaster is higher than the surrounding plastic that doesn’t heat up. Because the rest of the toaster doesn’t get hot it is easy not to realize how hot that top part is and get burned. Also, I noticed that my other similar toaster that is a different brand had same metal area but it is recessed down inside the plastic so the hazard is almost eliminated. I’ve never burned myself on this one and I use it a lot. The Hamilton beach model that we got burned on is the one I use occasionally when I want to toast 4 pieces at once. I think the co. should have all the metal recessed in on plastic toasters.
