The product, in the report: Dualit product code 40415 toaster Model 84US 1800 watt 120vac We made some toast. The toast popped up ready we removed and went to eat e pecting that like other toasters the heat would turn off as “it was done” an hour later we began smelling a burnt wood smell. The toaster at this time was pushed back under the kitchen cabinets for storage and was slowly heating up the wood. By the time we noticed the cabinets had began to char. If we had not been home we are convinced the there would have been a fire.
Duality toaster did not turn off by timer almost caught cabinets above on fire

The product, in the report: Toaster
This consumer is reporting his toaster manufactured in England purchased around 2013. Sometime around August 2017 the toaster that has a knob on the front that is a spring timer which does not work began to continue running after the user tried to turn it off. The toaster has to be unplugged to turn the toaster off because the timer does not work to turn the toaster off. He contacted the manufacturer in England who reminded him that the instructions advise never leaving the toaster and always be sure it is watched. He said that this may be true but that he is reporting it as a fire hazard because if the timer was working properly it would turn the toaster off just as it had when they purchased it and he believes that it not turning off could be extremely hazardous. He states that for $250.that this toaster should be safer for much longer.

The product, in the report: 2 slice chrome toaster
Dualit 2 slice chrome toaster ASIN # B00009NROG – fire risk
There is a fire risk with this toaster and it should be recalled. Interestingly, the manufacturer is aware of the risk and has taken inadequate steps to address the issue. The problem occurs when the built in timer malfunctions and sticks which causes the toaster to remain powered on constantly. This poses an obvious fire risk although I did not experience a fire and no injuries were caused. The problem with my toaster occurred in May 2017 – the product was purchased in October 2014. A replacement part is easy to find online as are numerous reports of premature failure of timers and concerns about potential fire risk. Interestingly the replacement part has a warning of fire risk on the knob – “Unplug after use – fire risk” that was not on the original part - see photos below of new and original knob. This shows that manufacturer is aware of the issue. But this warning is inadequate as it is totally impractical in any busy household to unplug a toaster every time it is used. Also, by the time you purchase a replacement your original timer without the warning will have failed exposing you to fire risk. This product needs to be recalled and the timer redesigned with a built in fail safe so that if it sticks it powers down automatically.
