The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Breville Toaster Long Slot, 4-Slice (Model BTA630XL/B, 120V, 1600W). The toaster has a white plastic housing with stainless steel slots. It is designed for toasting bread, bagels, and frozen items, with front buttons labeled Toast/Cancel, A Bit More, Bagel, Frozen, Lift and Look.

The toaster housing melts during normal use. This poses a fire hazard. The problem worsened in just two weeks of use

The product, in the report: Breville 2 slice toaster stainless steel

I was using my 3rd finger on my left hand cleaning the crumbs out from the top space of a Breville toaster and upon sliding my finger in the opening, the side of my finger was sliced open with an approximate 1/4 piece of skin hanging on my finger. Since I am on a blood thinner, my attempt to completely stop the bleeding took some time and effort. This injury effected my day to day activities until healed.

The product, in the report: 4 slice, pop-up Toaster Oven (brush stainless)

12/25/2023: The toaster started malfunctioning and caused his smoke alarm to sound off in the home.

When bread is placed in the toaster and the “Toast” feature is selected, the “Lift & Look” button goes up and down, but the product does not turn off.

He had 1 incident and tried it multiple times afterwards, but the toaster continuously malfunctioned. He tested it around 15 – 20 times, and discontinued use of it.

12/262/2023: The consumer contacted the manufacturer’s Customer Service Dept. about this matter, numerous times. He also sent the firm several emails.

He contacted the company on 12/26/2023, & 12/27/2023, 1/2/2024, 1/9/2024, 1/24/2024 & 1/25/2024 and there may have been additional contact dates.

The first person he spoke with offered to send a shipping label so he could return the toaster and asked for pictures. The consumer kept the toaster, provided pictures, but he never spoke with that specific rep. again.

1/25/2024: The consumer spoke with a rep., who said she would have to get approval from a higher authority, before she could assist him. The consumer asked for a supervisor but was not permitted to speak with one.

The product, in the report: White Breville toaster- 1510

We own two Breville toasters (model 1510, BTA630XL) and both of them have the same defect: on an inconsistent basis, when the toaster is ready to lift up the toasted bread, the grids lock up and the toaster begins re-heating at maximum power. The only way to get the toast out after unplugging the unit is to take a pair of tongs and force the grids open. The grids then snap right back together. Fortunately, no one has been injured and a fire has been avoided because we have been standing there and have intervened.

This has happened with both toasters on several occasions and presents a fire hazard. I have looked for recalls on this product and haven’t found any but we can’t be the only people with this problem. I have notified the company via email and have had no response from them.

    Thank you.

The product, in the report: Breville The Bit More 2-Slice Toaster

While moving the Breville The Bit More 2-Slice Toaster on my kitchen counter, I grasped the side and top, only to have the tip of my index finger sliced open by an unfinished stainless steel edge surrounding the top rim of the toaster. I was forced to rush to the hospital’s emergency department due to profused bleeding. The cut required 3 stitches and is still healing.

I believe that a Chinese supplier cut corners and did not finish the stainless edge properly, as I examined an old toaster by Krups which has no such thing. I believe this toaster is very dangerous to the public and eventually someone will have their fingertip sliced off.

  6. No one hurt

Made Dec 31, 2015, sent to the company Jan 11, 2016, published by CPSC Jan 28, 2016

The product, in the report: This is a Breville Lift and Look Touch toaster White with two long slots for bread... considered a 4 slice toaster Only raised buttons to activate functions and to start heaters

Breville Lift and Look Touch Toaster purchased 12/11/2015. First used 12/26/2016. Design of toaster has buttons for operation on top of toaster towards the front. The buttons are approximately 1mm raised and only take very light pressure to activate which starts the toaster, lowers bread and turns on heaters inside. Due to the ease, location, and raised feature of the start button, it is very easy to inadvertently brush up against the button and turn it on. Even a child could do this. If a lightweight toaster cover, or anything else is on toaster at time, It will start a fire.

This is exactly what happened. A toaster cover was placed over toaster and just the weight of the lightweight cover had activated the start button and a fire ensued.

This would not have happened if the buttons were recessed, even by 1mm. There would have had to be direct pressure placed on it to activate the button.

    Very dangerous design..

The product, in the report: Breville BTA630 Lift and Look toaster

    Breville BTA630 Lift and Look

The Breville BTA630 Lift and Look toaster turned on by itself. I had just awoken and was in my kitchen, washing a pan. I smelled a slight burning odor and at first I thought it was food from the skillet. But the burning smell got worse and was smoky. I checked my coffee maker because it was brewing. Finally, I started looking around my kitchen and found the toaster was on and BLAZING hot. I had to unplug it to get it to turn off.

The product, in the report: Two Slice Toaster

Caller is reporting a toaster that overheats which deforms the lift lever slot.

The lift lever then jams in the slot, held in place by the melted plastic. This also jams the cancel button so that the toaster can’t be turned off unless it is unplugged.

Callers have returned the toaster to the manufacturer twice. All three units have the same problem.

When reported to manufacturer’s customer service office they stated that they had “never seen this before,

The product, in the report: Breville Toaster, silver, 2-slice toaster The following information was on the toaster: 120v2. 60 Hz. 900W 2H90 listed E127216

I had used the toaster to make toast. After removing the toast, the toaster was in the off mode. Several minutes later a member of my family screamed that the toaster was on fire...flames were shooting several inches out of the toaster. After unplugging it, it continued to shoot flames and we threw it outside into the snow . Fortunately, someone was in the kitchen to see the toaster on fire, as there was no toast cooking in it and it appeared to be off.
