The product, in the report: KitchenAid 6-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer (Model KSM60SECXCU in Contour Silver)
I have been a loyal KitchenAid owner for over 30 years. Based on decades of trust in your brands quality and reliability, I upgraded to a new KitchenAid 6-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer (Model KSM60SECXCU in Contour Silver), purchased from Costco Online on May 15, 2026. However, during use this past weekend, multiple specks of coating chipped off the enamel-coated flat beater directly into my batter. I was forced to discard the entire batch. When I contacted KitchenAid Customer Service today, I was appalled by the response. Both representatives I spoke with minimized the issue, assuring me that if the chipped coating were consumed, “it would not hurt anyone.” To suggest to a customer that ingesting foreign particles or flaking coating from a kitchen tool is harmless is completely unacceptable and reflects a disregard for basic food safety standards.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Professional 7-Quart Stand Mixer (Model KSM7586PCA)
I was using my KitchenAid Professional 7-Quart Stand Mixer (Model KSM7586PCA) for its intended purpose of kneading pizza dough, when it began vibrating across my countertop. Despite being placed on a stable countertop, the mixer continued moving until it fell from the edge and landed directly on my foot.
The impact caused devastating injuries to my second toe. I required a 911 ambulance transport to the emergency department, where I was treated for a displaced fracture and a severe laceration that nearly severed my toe. My treatment included X-rays, seven stitches, and follow-up medical care. The injury has resulted in significant pain, a lengthy recovery, and substantial medical expenses.

The product, in the report: The product is a KitchenAid stand mixer.
Kitchen aid consumer stand mixer on/off/speed selector switch fails to the on position. When the screw that retains the switch loosens from standard use, it allows the spring-loaded switch to slide to the on position and activate the mixer. The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer
Using the mix in November she used the cake mix paddle and over time paint chips were missing off the paddle. She noticed later on and called KitchenAid and they replaced it. Once she received the new paddle, it happened again. She called back and they told her that they would provide her with the metal version, so the paint chips won’t come off. She wanted to report this as all this time she has been consuming these paint chips all along. She called back to let them know how dangerous this was, and they brushed her off. She sent them a letter expressing her concerns and they have not responded to her letter. She decided to contact CPSC to put out a warning.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Professional 6500 Series Countertop Mixer, Serial No. W81844001, Model No. KSM6521XCA, red
On multiple occasions, metal shavings from mixer fell into food. I contacted KitchenAid on each occasion, only to be advised that the product is outside of the warranty window. I replaced the mixer attachments as previously suggested by the company. I assumed I was safe to use the mixer after following their advice. I am now concerned about how many times this happened without my knowing and whether or not my children have consumed metal fragments from food I frequently make using the mixer. KitchenAid mixers are unsafe for food use. The agent did not even open a case for me as the product was past warranty.

I, a 40 year old male was utilizing my KitchenAid (Whirlpool) K45SSWH stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. When finished using the mixer I turned it off and the mixer continued operating. I immediately unplugged the appliance. The issue is repeatable and will be replaced under the 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. No injuries occurred as a result; however, the potential for an injury exists if the appliance were to continue operating and someone were to lift the head from the bowl with the switch off thinking that the appliance would not be operating.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Stand Mixer, Model number KSM90BU, Serial number WC4502788, color blue. Weight of mixer: 21 pounds, the majority of which is the mixer head.
KitchenAid stand mixer, model KSM90BU: I was preparing to mix icing for a cake. The head of the mixer was in the up position. As I was loading the bowl onto the base of the mixer, the mixer head fell down from the up position. I tried to stop the head from falling onto the bowl and my thumb was caught in the hinge, resulting in a serious avulsion injury to the pad of my thumb - the hinge tore off about out 1/2 of the pad of my thumb. The injury occurred on 5/12/2025. The wound was gruesome and extremely painful, requiring numerous doctor visits, including Wound Care specialists. Note: The mixer has a lever that locks the motor head into the DOWN position, but no such feature that locks the head in the UP position to prevent an accident such as I suffered.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer, Model No. KSM155GBSR, Serial No. W731777298, with the glass bowl attachment.
This serious incident involved my KitchenAid stand mixer, Model No. KSM155GBSR, Serial No. W731777298, with the glass bowl attachment. While mixing frosting on high speed, after running for approximately one minute, the attachment hub cover unexpectedly detached and fell into the bowl. This caused the mixer to become unstable. At the same time, the plastic base piece that connects the glass bowl to the machine also detached from the bowl itself. As a result, the entire bowl flew off the mixer, fell, and shattered. Unfortunately, this caused a deep laceration to my left leg, which required medical attention, including seven stitches.

The product, in the report: Small black handheld mixer 8”X6”X3.5” PLUS 6’ beaters/whisk.
A Kitchenaid rechargeable hand mixer combusted while stored on a shelf. Model KHMB732BM Serial WHX3687237. We had used and recharged the mixer in the previous 3-4 days and left in on the shelf. It was fortunate that we were in the kitchen at the time, we smelled smoke but couldn’t see anything. Within a minute the handle burst into flame. I grabbed it and started taking it outside, the beaters started turning and caught my fingers. I had to pull hard to get loose and burned my hand slightly in the process. The finish on the shelf is slightly burned but could have been much worse with time. We had just gotten back to our home after being in Florida for 3 months. We do have pictures of the mixer in flames and after.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid tilting head stand mixer
I saw a report about lead on kitchenaid stand mixer. Decided to buy lead testing kits from Home Depot and test myself. Attachments were fine. But power cord changed color in about 10 seconds on a 2 minute test. Everyone in household uses. 2 adults and 3 children under 10. We use, as a family, regularly to make bread, baked goods, pizza, mix peanut butter. I have not had anyone lead tested, but hoping no one is lead poisoned.

The product, in the report: 4.5 quart Stainless Steel KitchenAid brand mixer bowl with handle, model number K45SBWH
I purchased a KitchenAid brand replacement bowl for my KitchenAid stand mixer (model number K45SS), which was guaranteed to fit the model of mixer I owned. When I used the bowl, it seemed to fit, but not securely. I added ingredients to the bowl and turned on the mixer. After a few minutes, the bowl began rocking and then flew off the mixer, damaging the finish on my mixer and injuring me. The bowl (model number K45SBWH) is not safe to use. I was only bruised, but someone could be seriously injured.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Artisan 5-qt. Stand Mixer $251.99 Sku#: 06373165 Size: 5 QT Color: Imperial Gray I bought it on sale at Kohl’s a number of years ago for my wife but we hardly used it especially because she’s scared to.
Our KitchenAid Artisan 5-qt. Stand Mixer with Sku#: 06373165 Size: 5 QT is dangerous. The motor has difficulty mixing even slightly stiff batter and the motor whines. The pin near the connection between the head of the mixer and the stand slips out (not completely) and you need to slide it back in so that the head doesn’t fall off. It’s a miracle that I noticed it slipping out and was able to slide it back in. With the pin out the entire head (which probably weighs around 40 lbs.!!) can fall off and it could be deadly!! But the most dangerous of all is the fact the bowl becomes lose from the place that you screw it in on the bottom of the stand and can fly off in the middle of mixing!! That could cause a really really serious injury. I was trying to stabilize the bowl that was becoming slightly dislodged while mixing and my hand almost got crushed between the bowl and the machine!!!

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Artisan stand mixer with tilt head and metal bowl
I recently purchased a new Kitchen Aid Artisan stand mixer with tilting motor head. Both times that I have used the mixer to mix dough, the mechanism that is supposed to lock the upper motor portion of the mixer in place during mixing has vibrated back in to the unlocked position within seconds of turning on the mixer. As soon as the locking mechanism springs back to the unlocked position, it causes the upper motor portion of the mixer to shoot up and cause the entire mixer to lunge forward. If you don’t literally stand there with your hand on the motor portion of the mixer holding it down during the use, the entire mixer “walks” across the counter from the vibration of mixing doughs. It is not inconceivable for this to send a mixer over the edge of a counter. The locking mechanism seriously does not work. In addition, twice while I’ve used the mixer for doughs, the failure of the locking mechanism to properly hold the upper motor piece down has caused the mixer to vibrate so badly that the pin that allows the mixer top to pivot in the stand base has vibrated almost completely out of the base. This is a brand new mixer, used maybe 4 times. There should not be mechanism failures like this. I have sustained no injuries as a result of the design flaws of the mixer, but I can very easily see one of these mixers lunging over the side of a counter during the failure of the locking mechanism or the pivot pin vibrating out causing the motor piece to fall off the stand base.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid “household mixer”
When in use this morning, the KitchenAid hand mixer would not power-down using the thumb switch. I had to call for assistance -- I had a running mixer with no way to safety turn it off. Very dangerous.
Normally, the black plastic thumb switch on top controls power and motor speed. This switch failed in the “ON” position. There is a rattling sound inside - as if a part may have come loose.
This product was just purchased in May, 2018.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid/Whirlpool Artisan Tilt Head Mixer with Glass Bowl. Model No KSM155GBCA Serial No W72527338
My husband and I were making bread in the KitchenAid Tilt Head Artisan Mixer with Glass Bowl on March 31, 2018. The mixer was purchased on January 27, 2018, and had been used about a dozen times to make bread, cakes, etc. With no warning, and while the machine was mixing the bread dough with the dough hook mechanism rotating, the glass bowl became unscrewed from the plastic ring that attaches to the bottom of the glass bowl; the ring with the bowl is then fitted and turned onto the base of the mixer to hold it in place. After the glass bowl became unscrewed while the mixer was mixing the dough, the bowl tilted to the left and was banged into the upright portion of the mixer several times, breaking it into two jagged pieces. I could not safely reach the switch on the left to turn it off because the jagged pieces of the glass bowl were moving near the switch. So I reached to the right to unplug the mixer, as I did so the two jagged broken halves of the bowl flew apart, one flew onto the kitchen counter; the other half flew at me as I was unplugging the machine. Luckily it did not hit me but landed on the floor and shattered into hundreds of glass shards which flew all over the kitchen. This all took less than 5 seconds. I have photos of the disastrous results of this failure, and I would like to stress this is how the mixer is designed for normal use. The plastic ring is not adequate to hold onto the glass bowl while the mixer is rotating contents. I found many reviews online by other consumers who had similar problems with the plastic ring coming off during use of the mixer. Extremely dangerous design.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer
I was using my Kitchen Aid Stand mixer to make naan. The dough was just coming together and the speed was either 2 or 3. I moved away and the next thing I knew the top/head/motor of the KA was at my feet, the dough hook still rotating. The bowl was still attached to the base. When I investigated I realized that the motor had completely ripped off of the base. (The silver pin still in tack, the hinge still attached to the base but broken off at the top of the hinge and a hole in the bottom of the motor where it had been attached to the base.)
I have contact Kitchen Aid and they are sending me a replacement and I am supposed to the send the broken one back to them,
I thought I should contact you so that you can be aware that this product failure happened. If I had been two feet closer I could have been seriously hurt. The motor weighs a ton.

The product, in the report: Red KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer
I was mixing cake batter with my Kitchenaid stand mixer. I forgot to tighten the attachment knob, so the metal attachment hub cover fell off into the bowl while mixing the batter. The metal cover hit the flat beater and flew sideways out of the bowl. I was standing in front of the mixer, so the metal cover didn’t hit me. A small piece of plastic came off of the flat beater. I don’t know if it ended up in the batter or where it went. I think it could be dangerous if the metal cover hit someone or if someone hurt their teeth when eating the baked cake.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer (Model: KSM150PSWH, Serial #: WU0519544)
I purchased a Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer (Model: KSM150PSWH, Serial #: WU0519544) in August 2008 at London Drugs in Vancouver. About 6 months ago I was using the mixer on high speed, whipping egg whites for a few minutes. There was a loud bang type of noise, a large spark and the breaker tripped. I thought it was a problem with the wiring in my 100 year old house. (But it was VERY SCARY.) Two days ago I was making cookies and sparks began to fly out of the back of the head of the mixer and the breaker tripped again. This time I realized it is a mixer problem. This poses an electrical and fire safety hazard for the user. I searched online and found a post about another consumer reporting the exact same problem. The mixer just before the most recent electrical issue, developed what seems to be some kind of gear problem. I called the Kitchen Aid help line about the gear problem and since the machine is off warranty, they offered me a “Customer Loyalty Discount”, to purchase a new machine. A can buy the same mixer locally here from Canadian Tire for less money, on sale. After the sparking and breaker incident, I realize this machine is not safe to use. I wrote about the issue on Kitchen Aid’s FB page - they replied, saying that I had already been in contact with Customer Service and the best they could do was offer me the same Customer Loyalty Discount. This is a safety issue, which they do not show any concern about. They have not shown any interest in understanding the source of the problem, nor of protecting consumers who use this mixer and experience similar problems. This could have caused a house fire - and all Kitchen Aid has done is to offer me a discount to buy another mixer from them. I told them I will not be buying any more Kitchen Aid appliances! I think this matter should be looked in to, and the problem identified, consumers made aware, and affected mixers recalled. Thank you.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 5 qt tilt head stand mixer
I am writing this letter regarding a recent experience with my KitchenAid Artisan series 5 qt tilt head stand mixer. Our family enjoys our mixer and uses it frequently without any mechanical problems. However, I have a serious safety concern with this particular model. When the head of the mixer is in the up position there is an open area that can easily entrap fingers resulting in injury. This was our recent experience with this particular mixer. There appears to be no safety mechanism or guard to prevent injuries from this area of the mixer. The top of this mixer is extremely heavy and the weight contributes to injury.
I was recently using my mixer and just lifted the head to remove the bowl. The head of the mixer is very heavy and easy to engage in the downward position. Since the tilt head does not have an upright locking mechanism my son was easily able to entrap his finger in this open area of the mixer. The entrapment combined with the downward force of the mixer head nearly resulted in a complete amputation of his finger. He required treatment at the local emergency department and received sutures from one side of his finger to the other. I believe that KitchenAid should look for some type of safety mechanism for this device to prevent future injuries of this nature. My daughter was also present during this incident and witnessed the near amputation, severe laceration and large amount of bleeding her brother suffered from the mixer. She really enjoyed helping to make various things using the KitchenAid mixer. However, she no longer wants to come anywhere close to the mixer for fear of the same injury occurring to her.
I feel that this design can easily result in injuries for people of all ages. I am disappointed that this company did not see this as a design flaw or safety concern. As much as I hate that we experienced this event, I hope that our experience will raise awareness so that KitchenAid can work towards a solution that would prevent this type of injury to future consumers.

The product, in the report: Kichen Aid Artisan Design Stand Mixer with Glass Bowl
I was making dough in my Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer with the glass bowl. The glass bowl came loose, shattering while spinning. A large spinning shard cut my hand, severing the nerve and partially lacerating the tendon. Additional pieces of glass were found up to 6 feet away in my kitchen following the incident.

The product, in the report: Artisan Stand Mixer (Red)
On my stand mixer the switch to turn off the mixer all of a sudden has started exhibiting a “spring back” to a high rate of speed. When I tried to turn off the mixer, the switch “sprang back” to a high rate of speed, almost catching my hand. The switch now frequently springs to a setting causing a high rate of speed when you attempt to turn it off. I’ve captured a video of this action if you are interested in seeing it.

The product, in the report: --KitchenAid Kitchen Appliance - Stand Mixer -- Model name is Professional 5 Plus
while kneading dough using my KitchenAid Stand Mixer -- the speed control suddenly went to ‘full speed’ WITHOUT TOUCHING OR MOVING THE CONTROL. The Control has settings as follows: Stir, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. -- 10 being full speed. I was using the mixer on “2” (which is recommended for kneading dough) When it went to full speed, the mixer started to flail about on the countertop and threw flour everywhere. I was able to quickly grab the mixer by the top of the motor and then shut the control off. I am, however, a man in his 50s -- over 6 feet tall and over 200 pounds. Had this been my mother or my sister-in-law, or someone else of shorter and lighter stature -- or a senior citizen or young person, I shudder to think what may have happened as the mixer is quite heavy -- and further, the whirling dough hook could also cause injury. Interestingly -- each time I tried to turn the control back on, (to “2” - it would immediately go to ‘full speed” -- then, after cleaning up the mess (about 45 minutes later) the control seemed to work fine.....I am afraid to allow anyone to use the product because I worry that it will once again go to full speed without provocation.
KitchenAid did not seem to be concerned about this - and they offered me 20% off on the purchase of another KitchenAid product -- The mixer was purchased in February of 2013 and has been used less than a dozen times.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 7qt. Pro Stand Mixer
I purchased a 7 qt. KitchenAid Pro Stand mixer. Upon unpacking it, I found that it had a substantial amount of metal shavings located in the front accessory drive port. Some of the metal shavings could be easily cleaned, but some cannot. There are metal shavings behind the permanently attached trim ring for the front port. The consumer can’t clean this area but the metal shavings could easily migrate and fall into the unit’s mixing bowl with use. The accessory drive port is located directly over the mixing bowl.

The product, in the report: Stand mixer with glass bowl. The usual version of this product use stainless steel bowl. This particular model was anniversary version, and the bowl is glass. However, the glass bowl breaks if foreign object falls into it while in operation, and its accessory attachment screw is prone to loosening and falling into the bowl. The combination of the two creates hazardous operating environment that can cause serious injury.

Series no. WY1252537, Model no. KP26M1XBS, THE Kitchenaid PROFESSIONAL 60 SERIES STAND MIXER.
We used it to make a 1lbs dough at the speed of 4 for about 10 minutes, and it fell off the kitchen counter. It was very dangerous especially for kids. From a engineer perspective, I think the manufacturer should add a part to make this machine mechanically fastened.
