Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 15, 2026, sent to the company Sep 18, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2026
The product, in the report: Nugget Ice Maker Countertop, 35lbs/24H Sonic & Chewable Pellet Ice, Portable Crushed Ice Machine, Self-Cleaning Anti-Scale System, 10 Cleaning Packets, Quiet Operation, Stainless Steel
I purchased a VIBOFROST countertop nugget ice maker, model VFI001, through Amazon on March 15, 2026. The Amazon order identifies the seller as LCY OFFICIAL. The product is designed to produce nugget/pellet ice for human consumption.
During normal household use, I discovered multiple small black plastic-like shavings/fragments in the ice produced by the machine. Some of the fragments were visibly embedded in or adhered to pieces of ice as they melted. The fragments include thin, curved/shaved pieces as well as smaller particles. I have photographs documenting multiple pieces of this foreign material in and among ice produced by the machine.
I am concerned that an internal component of the ice maker may be wearing, scraping, or otherwise shedding material during operation and that the resulting fragments are being dispensed with ice intended for human consumption. A consumer could potentially ingest these fragments without noticing them.
I stopped using the ice maker after discovering the foreign material. I have preserved the machine and photographic evidence of the fragments. The product label identifies the product as VIBOFROST model VFI001 and states a manufacture date of December 29, 2025.
I contacted Amazon Customer Service and specifically reported that the ice maker was dispensing visible plastic-like shavings/fragments into ice intended for human consumption and that I considered this a potential ingestion/product-safety hazard. I requested a refund and requested escalation of the safety issue. Amazon declined to provide a refund because the return window had expired. The representative also told me there was no one to whom the issue could be escalated and ultimately directed me to contact the manufacturer.
The products written materials state that VIBOFROST provides a 12-month product and labor warranty from the date of original purchase. I purchased this unit approximately six months ago and therefore discovered this issue during the stated warranty period.
I am submitting this report because I am concerned that the defect may not be unique to my unit and that other consumers using this model could unknowingly ingest foreign material in their ice. I believe the product should be evaluated to determine what component is shedding or being shaved during operation and whether other VIBOFROST VFI001 units present the same potential ingestion hazard.
