The product, in the report: Ionchill Quickcube Ice Maker
The Ionchill ice maker is producing ice and water contaminated with black specks. The black specks are believed to be mold. An online search and subsequent inspection revealed mold buildup, particularly in the water intake area. The presence of mold in a food and water preparation appliance is a serious health and safety hazard. This product could potentially cause illness to consumers who ingest the contaminated ice or water. I performed regular cleaning cycles as recommended by the manufacturer. When the problem persisted, I followed online advice to run a water and bleach solution through the machine. This process flushed out a significant amount of black, mold-like material. I believe this issue may be a widespread design or manufacturing defect that allows mold to grow in inaccessible areas of the machine. I urge the CPSC to investigate this product and consider a recall to prevent other consumers from potential illness.
