  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Dec 26, 2023, sent to the company Dec 29, 2023, published by CPSC Jan 17, 2024

The product, in the report: Gevi countertop ice machine, black

Please expand the recall for the Gevi GIMN-1102 icemaker to include manufacturer dates beyond July 2022. We had one with a date code 07/23/2022 and it also produced metal shavings in the serving ice. This is very dangerous and I feel these should all be recalled immediately.

The product, in the report: Gevi Household Countertop Nugget Ice Maker Machine, Stainless Steel Housing, Quiet Operation, Max 29Lbs/Day, Self Cleaning, Auto Water Refill, Portable Compact Design for Party RV (GIMN-1102 White) Brand Gevi Household Model Name Nugget Ice Maker Product Dimensions 17.6”D x 9.7”W x 16.9”H Capacity 26 Pounds Wattage 170 watts

I purchased a GEVI Model : Nugget Ice Maker 1102 I purchased a GEVI model GIMN 1102 Ice maker 7/5/2022 when my [REDACTED] was acting up (because I didn’t properly maintain it- my fault)… I started the GEVI on 1/27/2023… I did as the instruction manual stated & ran the cleaning cycle before making ice- this caused some kind of malfunction and the unit kept telling me to add water when the reservoir was full. It was night time & I was too frustrated to call customer service so I [REDACTED] & saw this was a common issue that some resolved by removing the filter- which I did & it allowed ice to be made… on 2/27/2023, the unit started making an awful howling sound… I [REDACTED] & found that if you unplug the machine & plug it back in, the sound will stop… I then registered the machine so it could be under warranty if the issue came back. It did a few weeks later and I reached out to GEVI for direction… they recommended that I clean the unit & gave me the link to what they recommended- they said if that didn’t resolve the issue, they would replace the unit or give me a refund. I ordered the cleaner immediately. Two days later a new sound woke me and when I checked the machine, there was little ice and a shiny metal blade in the ice! GEVI apologized and gave me an immediate refund. I found a similar blade in my water cup I had used the night before- thank God I did finish my water! I would have been seriously injured! When I went back through Amazon reviews, I saw several people had the same thing happen & noted it in their reviews going back 6+ months!!! GEVI followed up with me to confirm the refund was processed, no need to send the machine back & apologized again for what happened. I asked if they planned on doing a recall because it’s dangerous to still sell this item… they replied, “With regards to your concerns, please be advised that the GIMN-1102 ice makers have been upgraded since it has aroused great attention to whole GEVI team and at the same time, we are running a re-call project to take back defective ice makers and have them replaced with updated ones.”

I’ve notified Amazon of the issue in the hopes they stop selling this unit. But when looking on line, it’s available on several different sites

I forwarded the entire email string to Info@cpsc.gov at [REDACTED] 3/8/2023 & stated I would formally make a record on the official website. [REDACTED] replied thank you to acknowledge receipt.

GEVI is aware of the safety issue of their ice maker, but continues to sell the dangerous model all over the internet!  And I do not see ANY recall on line at all… I cannot comprehend why they have not sent notifications to all customers that purchased this item telling them of the danger… It appears they are waiting to be put on notice which isn’t right

Update 3/10/2023 I left the following review on Amazon:

    DANGEROUS- DO NOT USE!!!

This does make wonderful ice- but it is not worth anyone’s life! READ THE RECENT REVIEWS!! The blade is known to break & end up in the ice tray!!! Customer service was extremely apologetic & gave me an immediate refund FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THOSE WHO WILL USE THIS MACHINE, WAIT UNTIL THEY FIX THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE!!!!!!

I received an email a little bit ago from GEVI asking that I revise my review ??: Dear [REDACTED],

Thank you for bringing your issue with our ice maker to GEVI attention and hope our solution and customer service has met your satisfaction.

As for the concern you mentioned in the review, we are confident to share with you that we have had the blade issue fixed and there will be no further incident like this. We have also set up a re-call project to retrieve the ice makers with potential hazard and replaced them with the upgraded ones for their owners.

To grow to a reliable brand, we are committed to 100% satisfaction with our products and services for GEVI customers and we thank you very much for your voice.

Meanwhile, to help others understand that we have had the blade issue technically resolved, we’d be highly appreciative if you could take a few minutes to update your review via following link. [REDACTED] Contact Us – Amazon Customer Service Looking for assistance from customer support representatives over the phone? Please call 1-888-280-4331 if you have any questions. www.amazon.com ? Should you have further questions, please feel free to let me know. Kind regards, [REDACTED] GEVI Customer Service

I DO NOT PLAN ON UPDATING MY REVIEW - there is a review dated 7/17/2022 with photos stating they’re metal parts in the bin! I believe the manufacturer should have recalled the machine at that time- or sometime after the dozens of similar reviews were posted! I would not have bought this machine & almost swallowed part of a blade if they had taken the appropriate action!

GEVI states they have “have had the blade issue technically resolved”- NO! People bought the ice maker even after they were put on notice the blade broke into the receptacle. Every person that bought this ice maker model needs to be put on notice of the potential danger & GEVI needs to remove it completely from their sale inventory. They state they corrected the blade issue with an upgraded model… I believe they should prove that to CPSC & then only offer THAT model for sale

I was not physically injured - thank God I fell asleep before I finished chewing my ice I had in my water cup!!! But I can’t stop thinking every time I drink from my cup that a blade had been in it & could have cut my mouth & digestive tract if I had swallowed ??

Please make GEVI properly recall model GIMN-1102

    Thank you
