The product, in the report: Frigidaire Countertop Nugget Ice Maker Model: EFIC228-SS
Product: Frigidaire Countertop Nugget Ice Maker Model: EFIC228-SS Purchased from: Walmart Approximate purchase date: 2023
I am reporting a potential choking hazard involving a Frigidaire countertop nugget ice maker, model EFIC228-SS.
After using the machine for some time, I discovered that small pieces of plastic were breaking off from inside the ice maker and ending up in both the water reservoir and the ice it produced.
The first time I became aware of the issue was when my young son drank water with ice from the machine and complained that something was stuck in his throat. At the time, I did not know what had caused it. After inspecting the ice maker more closely, I found small plastic fragments mixed in with the ice and water.
A few months later, the same problem occurred again. Once again, I found additional plastic pieces inside the machine and in the ice. I have photographs showing the plastic fragments.
My primary concern is that consumers, especially young children, could unknowingly swallow or choke on these plastic pieces. Because the fragments are mixed in with the ice, they can easily go unnoticed until they are already in a drink.
I have stopped using the ice maker because I believe it presents a potential choking hazard. I am submitting this report so the issue can be investigated to determine whether this is an isolated manufacturing defect or a broader safety problem affecting other units of the same model.

The product, in the report: Countertop ice machine
Frigidaire EFIC165 ice machine. Unit 1.5 years old and cleaned each week. Found hard, black plastic shards in ice. Called the manufacturer’s tech line and they offered no help, not even a local repair shop for an estimate. I didn’t expect this to be covered in warranty, but I did expect more assistance on a repair. Catastrophic failure and safety hazard with only 1.5 years of the life of the appliance.

The product, in the report: The product is a Frigidaire Gallery countertop ice maker, model EFIC256-BLACK, manufactured by Curtis International. It is a small, portable household appliance designed to sit on a countertop and produce bullet-style ice cubes. The unit plugs into a standard 115V household outlet and contains internal refrigeration components, a water reservoir, an ice basket, and a plastic inner chamber where ice is formed.
The unit made a loud popping/exploding noise, the inner housing cracked, and a metal part broke loose. Small metal and plastic pieces fell into the ice, creating a contamination and ingestion hazard. The machine also became wedged under my cabinet and caused damage. The manufacturer said they have no safety contact, so I am reporting the incident to the CPSC

My family and I bought a Frigidaire Gallery countertop nugget ice maker from Walmart and after 2 days of using it, we found two metal slivers in two different ice cubes before immediately stopping use. It was used as directed in the instructions on a flat counter top. We are hoping we did not ingest any metal, but we are not sure at this time. We wanted to report this in case more of this product is having the same issue.

I have a serious concern and formal complaint regarding a Frigidaire ice maker, Model EFIC256, which I purchased from Walmart in May 2024.
The unit functioned properly for over a year. I have diligently followed all maintenance instructions and have only used double-filtered water to ensure its longevity and cleanliness. Recently, however, the machine began to produce an unusual noise. After an initial cleaning did not resolve the issue, I decided to remove the side panels to investigate further.
To my shock and disgust, upon opening the unit, I discovered an extensive amount of mold growth inside. It appears that condensation from the compressor combined with the warmth of the motor, created a breeding ground for this hazardous mold. This is not only a major defect but also a severe health hazard.
I initially contacted Frigidaire regarding this issue and was directed to Curtis International. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this, I have been met with various excuses and a lack of urgency. The serious health risks associated with a household appliance producing a product for consumption while harboring mold have not been adequately addressed.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Ice Maker EFIC237, Black, a table top ice maker, 11.65 in. x 16.93 in. x 20.87 in.
Frigidaire Ice Maker EFIC237 (purchased from Costco -- near equivalent to [REDACTED] sold elsewhere?); noticed a strong burning smell one morning coming from the ice maker. The ice maker was plugged in at the time and running. Immediately unplugged the device and stopped usage since. Decided to investigate the cause and found the part of the control board charred. As there had been many reports/product reviews of failures for this product, I decided to make a report in case there are others out there that have experienced similar or even worse as a result of this ice maker. Potential fire hazard! The manufacturer must be held accountable for the high defect rate and potentially fatal consequences. No injuries occurred (other than to the one in my wallet).
