The product, in the report: FirstBuild Opal Nugget Ice Maker

I have had a FirstBuild Opal Ice maker since 1/1/2019. It was replaced once or twice for issues with the first generation, I now have had the second generation for about 2 years now.

I started having gray stuff show up on my ice. I searched online for this problem and found several people saying there was black mold in the water reservoir. This reservoir is not easy to get to, you have to take the top of the machine off (4 screws and an electrical connection) to get the reservoir top off. The first time I took it off after nearly a year of operation, it was completely coated with what I thought was black mold. A gray powdery substance. (long story buy please stick with me) When I clean this machine, I use vinegar to descale. I save that vinegar to clean the tub an toilets from scale build up.

It may have looked like like mold, but it turns out what I thought was mold is powdered metal!!! The used cleaning solution I have been saving has gray “powder” accumulated in the bottom of the jug of used vinegar. When I place a magnet next to the plastic bottle and the gray powder reacts to the magnet. I think this is from the ice machine’s auger failing, but that is just an opinion.

This is a major health hazard to everyone who has this ice maker.

Please give me a call if you would like to discuss further.
