The product, in the report: This is a Duxtop 9100mc portable induction cooktop, manufactured by Secura Inc.
The portable induction cooktop, approximately a minute into the process of heating a pan with oil, caught on fire out the bottom/rear of the unit. A fire extinguisher was used and stopped the fire, but the unit itself was completely burned through, and it resulted in burns to a couple surfaces in the kitchen as a result. There were no injuries as a result.
The unit was situated on top of disabled gas burners (we’re removing gas from our household, and have had the gas turned off, but have not yet removed the cooktop), alongside another portable cooktop of the same model, which continued operating normally. There was ample space behind, beneath (it was on top of the gas burner grates), and beside the unit on one side, while the other unit was a couple inches away on the other side.
The unit that caught fire was newly purchased, while the other model has been operating normally for approximately two years now.
