The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

The product, in the report: Brand: Cuisinart Product Name: Griddler Six Model Number: GR-6 Electrical Specifications: 120VAC, 60Hz, 1500W

The Cuisinart Griddler Six (Model: GR-6, D/C: 3118) was plugged into a standard household outlet on a kitchen counter but had been turned off. In the middle of the night, the unit spontaneously energized and began heating on its own without user interaction. It produced heavy smoke that filled the area and triggered home fire alarms. We immediately unplugged the unit to stop the heating and prevent an open kitchen fire. Spontaneous activation while switched off poses a serious fire and safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Griddler 5-in-1 Stainless Steel Panini Press, Sandwich Maker, Grill, and Griddle

I have had a Cuisnart Griddler (model GR-4N) for approximately 10 years. Recently, upon using it, I was shocked by touching its metal top housing. I used a voltmeter to measure the voltage from the housing to ground, and read 120 VAC. This is very dangerous. On disassembly, it became apparent that the uninsulated upper heating element hot terminal had bent upward in the course of use, causing it to come into contact with the steel housing.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Griddler Deluxe Model GR-150

Cuisinart Griddler Deluxe Model GR-150 Sear function stayed on for 35 minutes overheating the unit and the electrical cord. I was able to cut the power prior to any real damage.

The product, in the report: Cuisenart Gridler Deluxe, Model # GR-150, Serial Number 30805.

Cuisenart Griddler Deluxe, Model # GR-150, SERIAL NUMBER 30805, turned on and heated up while I was at work, when I returned from work I noticed it and went to investigate, I checked to make sure the knobs were set to off and they both are, but the unit would not turn off when set to off. I am amazed it did not start a fire and would like anybody who has one of these units to be notified of this incident. I expect it will become a major product recall, I called Cuisenart and they refused to investigate the issue unless I were to pay to ship the product to them.

The product, in the report: cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler

This was the fifth time the item has been used. Thermostat failed while using the panini function. Unit was preheated following the included instructions. A timer was set and the sandwich placed on the grill. Within 60 seconds the sandwich was burning. When the grill was opened to remove the food the clips holding the top plate failed causing the now very hot grill plate to fall. The clips failed at too low a temperature which made using the controls to shut off the device dangerous and moving the device in order to unplug it difficult.

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Griddler griddler/contact grill/panini press

We have owned the Cuisinart Griddler for a few years. The cooking plates are removable for cleaning, and can be reversed. The clips that hold the plates on seem to have lost their integrity, the upper plate fell off several times when the top was lifted during its last use, causing a serious burn hazard had I been flipping the food that was on the cooking surface.
