  1. First aid

Made Dec 29, 2017, sent to the company Mar 21, 2018, published by CPSC Apr 5, 2018

The product, in the report: 12” Electric Frying Pan

The frypan has a metal shroud attached to the bottom of the pan which surrounds the thermostatic controller when plugged in. The shroud is easily contacted when adjusting the temperature control dial. (Less than a finger width of clearance.) With the unit set at275 degrees F, we have contacted the shroud, while attempting to adjust the temperature setting. We have experienced burned fingers in the process. An infra-red temperature reading of the shroud indicated 360 degrees F with the control set at 275 degrees F. Further investigation revealed the pan itself varied from 205 degrees F to 347 degrees F when set to 275 degrees F.

The shroud situation is dangerous and could be compounded if the user were a child, invalid or elder.

The lack of temperature control could easily cause any number of unsafe scenarios. Especially at higher settings where grease fires or catastrophic explosive steam events could manifest.

It should be noted that we have only suffered burns from the shroud and are only pointing out that a poorly functioning thermostatic controller might represent even more serious injury potential.

The product, in the report: Glass Lid on 12” Electric Skillet

My adult daughter was doing dishes after our evening meal, on February 11, 2017. She put the tempered glass lid of the 12” Presto Electric Skillet, in the dishwasher. When she did so, it shattered. The lid was not hot, as it had cooled to room temperature while we ate our dinner. She did not bump the lid against anything. I would guess that the skillet lid was only about 3 years old.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it was a scary experience.

The product, in the report: Presto 16-inch Electric Skillet with glass cover. Non stick surface, tempered glass cover, roasts/fries/grills/ bakes, and more.

My 16 inch Presto Electric Skillet with glass cover “imploded” while it sat unused in the bottom of one of my kitchen cabinets. I heard what sounded like a crash or explosion and couldn’t see anything on the kitchen floor. Later when I opened a cabinet, I saw hundreds of shards of glass in and around the skillet. Nothing had fallen on it....the glass just blew appart. I have never seen anything like this. I called Presto and they said they would replace the glass cover. The rim the cover sat on has also come loose. I also would not want to have this product with its glass cover. I have only used it for cooking about 5 times and am thankful it didn’t break while cooking. My husband I had a tedious clean up. We placed the skillet with its glass shards in a trash bag since today is trash day. Then spent some time cleaning up glass shards that had been tossed around the cabinet. A small shard cut my finger. I want a refund from Presto not a replacement of a defective product. I want other consumers to be warned about this hazard I want this model to be recalled. This would be a hazard for adults and children

The product, in the report: presto 16 inch electric skillet with a glass topModel# 06852/02

I purchased a 16 inch Presto electric skillet with a glass top 5 months ago. Yesterday, the glass skillet top shatterred in my dishwasher, leaving a million shards all over the dishwasher, and the floor. This was not the first time it had been put in the dishwasher. Fortunately my spouse did not get injured. He waited until I came home, and we had to use a shop vac to clean out the dishwasher.he was emptying the dishwasher of clean dishes.
