The product, in the report: Oster Electric Skillet Model CKSTSKFM-1216.

I was cooking a meal with my Oster CKSTSFM-1216 Electric Skillet at approximately 300 degrees when the heating element melted right out the bottom and dropped molten metal on our Formica counter top and burned a hole right through it. Had I not been right next to it when it happened, it very well could have burned down our house.

The product, in the report: Oster 16 quart electric skillet

On December 18th at approximately 5:00 pm my husband was cooking potatoes in our electric skillet that was purchased as a gift last Christmas. It had only been opened out of the box 3 weeks prior to the incident date and used maybe 5 times. The skillet had been on for approximately 3 minutes when the bottom exploded where the heat coil is and was shooting out sparks onto our counter. Thankfully he hadn’t walked away and was able to unplug the skillet and pick it up before a fire, injuries, or any damage was done to our counter top. I have saved this product in hopes that someone looks into why this happened. I did go online and report it to the Oster company, but regretfully received no response other than the immediate auto email stating my complaint was received.

The product, in the report: Oster Electric Skillet CKSTSKFM-1216. 120V

We were operating a brand-new electric skillet. I plugged it into the wall to cook some chicken and vegetables when the coil on the bottom of the skillet melted and the inner coil was exposed. It was red-hot and flakes of red-hot metal dropped from the coil onto the counter. I immediately unplugged the skillet and put it in the snow outside to cool it down. Had my wife not noticed the red-hot coil, it could have caused a fire. I have pictures of the skillet and can provide upon request. This is the third time using since purchasing the item as a Christmas gift on Kohl’s.
