  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Jan 10, 2025, sent to the company Jan 15, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 30, 2025

The product, in the report: The T-fal 3.5L Deep Fryer with Oil Filtration System is a stainless steel countertop appliance designed for home use. It features a 1700W heating element, adjustable temperature control, and a digital timer. The fryer includes an integrated oil filtration system intended to simplify the reuse and storage of cooking oil. The oil filtration system uses a removable oil container with a built-in spout for pouring. The lid on the oil container is designed to secure the contents during storage and pouring. The product advertises dishwasher-safe parts for ease of cleaning and claims to deliver perfect golden crispy results. Key Components: Oil Filtration System: A removable container for filtering and storing oil after use. Pouring Spout: Built into the oil container for transferring oil with minimal mess. Lid: A plastic lid designed to cover the oil container, which should stay in place during pouring but has proven to detach easily during use. Frying Basket: A stainless steel basket for holding food during frying. Temperature Control and Timer: Adjustable settings to manage cooking temperatures and times. Dimensions: Approximately 18 x 13 x 14 inches Weight: 12.4 lbs Material: Stainless steel body, plastic components for the lid and spout

Description of Incident: While using the T-fal 3.5L Deep Fryer with Oil Filtration System, I attempted to pour peanut oil from the oil container using the built-in spout. During this process, the lid of the oil container detached unexpectedly, causing approximately one gallon of peanut oil to spill onto the counter and under the stove. This design flaw created a significant fire hazard, as peanut oil is highly flammable and could have ignited had the stove been on at the time of the spill.

Hazard Description: The lid of the oil container does not secure tightly enough to withstand the normal use of the spout, leading to a high likelihood of accidental spills. Given that this product is specifically intended for use with flammable oil, the inability of the container to reliably prevent spills poses a serious risk of fire and injury.

Injury Details: No injuries occurred during this incident. However, the potential for a fire or burns was substantial. Cleaning up the spill was time-consuming and required extensive effort to remove oil from the counter and under the stove.

Recommendation for Resolution: The product design should be reviewed to ensure the lid secures tightly during use, particularly when pouring oil. Any features that compromise the safety of handling flammable liquids should be re-engineered to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The product, in the report: T-Fal FR8000 Easy clean Deep fryer

Purchased T-Fal FR8000 in Feb of this year. Tonight I was frying chicken wings and the unit kept making odd bubbling noises.. I thought it was excess moisture in the wings but after two volcanic-like bubbles I pulled up the basket to remove the chicken. Even with the chicken removed the explosions kept happening- spraying boiling oil throughout the kitchen.. I unplugged the unit and a very large explosion shot the entire basket up off the unit. I’ve owned other deep friers and used them for many years without ever experiencing anything like this. Tried calling T-Fal but customer service closed after 6.

The product, in the report: T-fal FR8000 Oil Filtration Ultimate EZ Clean. Deep fryer with removable heating element and collection reservoir for oil

After I used the deep fryer and switched it off (the electrical cord was no longer attached) I noticed that the fryer started making noise. As if it was warming up. I look at the oil and saw that it was bubbling. I stepped away to organize something for my cooking (fortunately), heard a loud noise and the fryer exploded, covering my patio with oil. I was lucky not be close to it. Obviously, this is a very concerning matter. Not just for me but for other users.
