First aid Made Dec 5, 2013, sent to the company Dec 13, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 30, 2013
The product, in the report: Oster Electric Deep Fryer Model CKSTDFZM70 4 liter Deep Fryer 120Vaz~60Hz 1600W Boca Raton, FL, 33431 USA Conforms to UL STD. 1083 certified too CSA STD C22.2 NO.64
I received this (2nd) deep fryer directly from Oster/Jardens as a replacement for the first faulty deep fryer. After I received the replacement. I used the deep fryer one time; the fryer was used to cook chicken nuggets. After the fryer reached the needed temperature, the ON/OFF switch melted and I was unable to turn the unit off- I had to unplug it. When I opened the lid, I had the detached lid in my hand due to the plastic in the back getting hot and allowing the screws that hold the lid to strip out of the plastic to do expansion. I was not able to secure the lid back onto the unit, nor can the ON/OFF switch be repaired. Trying to handle the hot switch burned burned my fingers. The first deep fryer had the same problem -the outer body of the fryer melted and exposed wires. It was very hot and not safe to touch.
