The product, in the report: Cabelas LP fish fryer (10-1/2 quart)
The consumer has owned two 6-1/2 quarts, fish fryers that were made by this same manufacturer, which also had the same exact malfunction. The manufacturer replaced those two, but the consumer did not have model/serial information on them.
12/2020: The consumer got the first 6-1/2 quart fish fryer.
7/2021: The first time he used the fryer, the regulator began to show signs of frost. Within 5 minutes a large amount gas came though the regulator and fire balls shot out the burners. This happen several times within a few seconds. The consumer quickly turned off the gas.
7/2021: The consumer called the firm and their rep. advised him to return it to the dealer for a replacement. He took it back to the dealer and they provided him with an identical fryer.
7/2021: The very first time he used the 2nd fryer, the exact same problem occurred. The regulator became frosted within 5 minutes and fire balls started shooting from the burner within seconds. There was no property damage with the first 2 fryers.
8/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the issue with this 2nd fryer. Their rep. advised him to take it back to the dealer for an exchange or a refund.
The consumer took it back to the dealer and paid a little over $20 for a larger fryer (10-1/2 quart).
The very first time he used this 3rd fryer, the regulator began to frost up within 1 minute and fire balls began shooting from the burner. The consumer quickly turned it off.
He said that the compressed air pipe, next to the ceiling in my shop, is made of PVC and it blew up, as it got heated. However, he also took pictures and made a video of the incident.
The consumer was using all 3 fryers indoors, but they are recommended to be used outdoors.
8/2020: The consumer called the firm about this 3rd fryer.
8/17/2021: The firm’s rep. returned the consumer’s call and offered to send a replacement regulator, which had been tested. The rep. also requested his defective regulator. The consumer agreed to this initially, but gave it further thought and decided he will not give the firm the part. I did send them the third one but still have the 4th one that they sent.
The product’s packaging had the following: Part # 716 of 2,374. Therefore, he concluded that there are many of these items out on the market.
The consumer checked the Internet and saw that another person was selling theirs on the [REDACTED], but they also noted that the regulator didn’t work. This added to his concern
His 10-1/2 quarts had: (SKU: 1631022) UPC: 848696 002614
New information since our phone conversation ... Today is August the 25th. When I spoke with you on the phone I had mentioned that someone had called from the company that supplies the fish fryers. I had emailed the company and just now went back to find the emails so that I’d have the exact dates. There are no emails that I could find and I for sure didn’t delete them. The phone number for the company that called and offered to replace the bad burner is (310)323-0888 and using the phone number, I did a search and it brought up the company name and address which is: New Legacy Industrial Inc. 1618 W Rosecrans Ave Gardena , CA, 90249-3022 United States The replacement burner that they sent, and stated that it had been tested (her exact words were “we’re going to go ahead and pre-test it and ship it out to you”) arrived about a week ago. The same day I hooked it up to a 20# cylinder and within a minute, the regulator began to frost up and after lighting the flame at 2:17:09 PM, at 2:18:20 it was getting a heavy layer of frost on the regulator. At 2:19 it was getting gushes of flame that got bigger as time went on so I did a 29 second video of it and shut it down once the fire gushes got close to the ceiling. I uploaded it to Youtube and this is the link to it. [REDACTED] I also uploaded a video of the second one from inside my shop where the flames overheated a PVC airline next to the ceiling causing it to burst. It was only about 4 seconds because I was in a hurry to shut it down. [REDACTED] On Monday I sent the regulator/burner back to the company in their prepaid UPS carton. I still have the one that they sent as a (supposedly tested) replacement.
I do have some pictures that have timestamps in the photos if you need them? Thanks for looking into this and hopefully this hazardous product can be remedied,
