The product, in the report: WalMart’s Mainstay Brand 12 Cup coffee maker, Model MS12-100024356. It is black. I could not find a serial number or manufacturer’s date on the product. I do not have the box for the UPC information. I am uncertain of the purchase date, but believe it was within the last 2-3 years.
The Mainstay Coffee maker Model MS12-100024356 malfunctioned. The coffee maker steamed the water with half of the water going into the coffee ground basket and the rest escaped through the back of the coffee maker. Once the errant steam reached the bottom of my kitchen cabinets it changed over to condensation. There was a burn mark in the area above the coffee maker. Because of the extent of the burn mark and separation of the laminate from the cabinets, this overheating/steam from the coffee maker, I believe this may have been happening over a period of time, but to a less noticeable degree than today. The back of the coffee maker was extremely hot and the steam is a burning hazard. The steam can cause a person to be burned and the burning of the cabinet could have started a house fire.

The product, in the report: Walmart GE coffee maker
We are on vacation in a rental home equipped with the black GE Walmart coffee maker. I prepared 1/2 pot of coffee per usual procedure. Upon pouring the first cup, the handle separated from the carafe. It shattered on the floor between my feet. Fortunately, I was wearing shoes; otherwise, I would have like been burned and cut by breaking glass.

The product, in the report: Coffeemaker
Caller purchased Coffeemaker on May 12th, 2012. The night of Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 Caller programmed her coffee pot to prepare coffee at 6:20AM - 6:30AM Thursday, June 7th, 2012.
The morning of June 7th, 2012 around 8:30 caller was sitting in her living room drinking a cup of coffee when she heard a clicking noise and thought that it was the coffeemaker turning off at the two hour interval.
Approximately 15 minutes after hearing the clicking sound she smelled an electrical/plastic burning odor, she got up and went into the kitchen, saw a minimal amount of smoke coming from the coffeemaker.
She states that the odor was strong but the smoke was light enough that she could not discern which part of the coffeemaker it was coming from.
She grabbed a pot holder, unplugged the coffeemaker and took it out to the patio.
She doesn’t know whether the plug was hot or not but didn’t want to take the chance of being burned.
She attempted to contact retailer on recall line but it was busy.
She went online and saw other GE coffeemakers recalled but not her model.
She has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.
Caller is reporting this coffeemaker as a fire hazard believing that if she had not been awake this incident could have resulted in a fire with extensive damage.
There were no injuries

The laundry room beside the kitchen suffered the worst smoke damage- many clean clothes had to be re-washed and dry cleaned.
