The product, in the report: coffee maker
I was given this coffee maker as a Christmas gift Dec 25th, 2013 by my daughter. As a college student on a budget she remembers buying it at Big Lots in Chandler AZ. Warner and Alma School roads.
We awoke to our kitchen on fire 3:30 a.m.on Jan 23rd.2017. The Coffee maker completely melted down after it burst into flames and filled our home with toxic black smoke. I have a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, it cracked our granite counter and burned the cabinet. at 4 in the morning, I went through the attic and every cabinet to insure the fire hadn’t snuck into the attic. A week of an ozone generator and ran for the week to remove the smell, washed the soot off everything. it was awful
I thought it was a [REDACTED] product and sent them photos. They returned my email quickly and explained it wasn’t their product. The investigator said he knew of this Signature Gourmet and was normally only sold through Walgreen’s. We were able to find the recall notice online from 2009 that the unit would burst into flames. The company is now out of business. Big Lots is often selling discount and closeout items. I can’t believe they would make a simple recall check before selling in their stores, 4 years after it was recalled and discontinued from the manufacturer. Another 5 minutes and I could have lost my home. How can you help me?
