A brand new Mr. Coffee Espresso maker “blew up” in our kitchen. It appears the cup holding the coffee grounds blew off, impacting and shattering the glass carafe below it. The noise it made was very loud, and steam, hot coffee, coffee grounds, and glass shards blew all over the kitchen. My wife received a few minor cuts from flying glass, but nothing serious. The product, in the report: Coffee Maker

About 10PM last night, I heard a noise coming from the kitchen. When I inspected the room, I found my Mr Coffee maker (model DRTX85) running at full output with no water and considerable overheating coming from the machine. The unit exhibited no operating lights, it had not been set to automatically come on at any time and hadn’t been used since early that morning.

I feel that if we hadn’t been home or if I hadn’t heard the noise, the unit would have been a fire hazard.

Made Sep 10, 2012, sent to the company Oct 9, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 23, 2012

The product, in the report: 5 cup coffeemaker

Caller and wife purchased a 5 cup coffeemaker approximately 7 months ago and have not had any problems at all with it until Sunday, September 9th, 2012 when the wife had just finished making coffee. She was going to empty the grounds as usual when steam came out of the top portion where the coffee grounds are kept and burned her right hand on the knuckles of the three fingers between her thumb and little finger.

She did not believe in the beginning that she needed medical attention and so treated it herself. This morning; Monday, September 10th, 2012 she woke and saw that her knuckles and areas leading to her hand are blistering. She will make an appointment to have a doctor examine the burn and advise of care necessary today.

They contacted the manufacturer this morning but they do not remember names of contacts who told them they would send report collected to their lab.

Callers are disappointed with the manner their report to the manufacturer was treated since they were not seeking restitution but were reporting for their safety as well as many, many others safety.

This product is being reported due to callers belief that it could seriously injure someone using the coffeepot or could injure anyone standing very close to them. They would like this coffeemaker recalled and replaced at manufacturer expense
