The product, in the report: Ninja Single-Serve Pods & Grounds Coffee Maker with Integrated Milk Frother Black : Iced Coffee System

I was making coffee with the coffee pod setting and while it was brewing an unusual amount of steam and coffee grounds were spewing out the side. While I went to power off the machine the top popped and coffee exploded onto my hand and coffee also shot clear across the room. Reached out to Ninja the day of the incident and yet to hear back

The product, in the report: Ninja PB040/050 Series Coffee maker

Ninja PB040/050 Series Coffee maker Issues: 1. Forces water through the K-cup with such force that the internal filter bursts, releasing grounds which then block the outlet. 2. When clogged, great pressure builds up and releases explosively, forcing hot water, steam and grounds out of the right side of the machine. The steam and water can burn! This has happened multiple times. Lack of Safety: 1. No means to limit pressure in the K-cup pod. 2. No safe exit for pressurized steam and water.

The product, in the report: Ninja Single-Serve Pods & Grounds Specialty Coffee Maker (Stone color). This is a single-serve coffee maker designed to brew coffee using either pods or ground coffee via a removable basket.

I am reporting a Ninja/SharkNinja ground and pod coffee maker because it developed mold growth associated with an internal component that cannot be accessed for cleaning, making the product unusable. There is an internal component within the water reservoir that cannot be removed or accessed, and the openings that allow water to pass through are covered by mesh, making it impossible to reach and clean the affected area. Because this area retains water and cannot be properly sanitized, the appliance cannot be safely used. After contacting the manufacturer, no cleaning method was provided for this internal component.

The appliance was used in my home by an adult (me) for normal, intended coffee preparation, following typical cleaning and maintenance. Once mold was discovered, I stopped using the product due to concern about contamination and potential exposure. No confirmed injury has occurred; however, the situation presents a potential health risk because it is a food-related appliance and mold was present.

I contacted SharkNinja for a resolution and was not offered any way to clean the affected component. I was initially informed that a replacement water reservoir would arrive within 10 business days. After that timeframe passed, I was informed the required part is on backorder with an estimated 2 to 4 week delay, leaving the product unusable for an extended period. At this time, the manufacturer has not resolved the issue, and the product remains unusable.

The product, in the report: The product is a Ninja coffee maker, single-serve and carafe-style machine with a built-in pod brewing feature. It is black with silver accents and includes a flip-open pod lid on top. The machine is designed to brew coffee in various cup sizes and also provides a cleaning cycle (CLN) function. The size is approximately 1214 inches tall with a removable water reservoir on the side.

I was injured by a Ninja coffee maker model CFP301, serial number U08Q3223Z5H9. On July 31, 2025, while using the machine normally with the pod feature, the machine displayed a CLN message indicating a cleaning cycle. When I opened the pod lid to investigate, the machine suddenly discharged scalding hot water and coffee grounds, which sprayed directly onto my chest and right hand. I suffered painful burns to my chest and hand that required medical treatment. I was treated at [REDACTED] Urgent Care and prescribed silver sulfadiazine 1% cream. I also incurred medical expenses and lost approximately two hours of work time due to the injury. I filed a personal injury claim with SharkNinja and provided full documentation, including medical information and details of the incident. Their response was to offer only a replacement unit. They have not addressed the injury, medical expenses, or the safety hazard. This malfunction poses a risk to other consumers. I am requesting that the CPSC investigate this incident as a potential product safety defect. The product, in the report: Ninja PB051 Single-Serve Pods & Grounds Specialty Coffee Maker

I was using my Ninja PB051 Single-Serve Pods & Grounds Specialty Coffee Maker this morning to make a cup of coffee. I have had the product for less than a year and only use bottled water. I ensure after each use the product is clean. However, this morning, I put in a pod and pressed to brew 12 oz. After a moment of it trying to dispense water (but not dispensing), lights on the top began to flash and smoke came billowing out the top. I shut it off and went to open the top (expecting that there was something burning inside and I would need to extinguish it) but very hot coffee grounds exploded all over my kitchen. They ended up on my arms, my shirt, my pants, my floor, my wall, my carpet, the stove, the refrigerator. I now have a blistering burn on my arm.

I heard a constant beeping in the kitchen and then smelled burning wires or plastic as I walked in. My coffeemaker was smoking and wouldn’t turn off so I unplugged it and got it outside. I haven’t found my receipt yet but I’m guessing it’s out of warranty anyway but just wanted to get it on record and maybe help someone else. So far the Ninja folks have yet to respond but it’s model CE251, approximtely 2 years old but I’ll find my receipt eventully. SN Q29Q692AZ1F4

The product, in the report: Ninja CE251 Programmable Brewer, with 12-cup Glass Carafe, Black and Stainless Steel Finish

Ninja Model CE251 drip coffee maker overheated approx. 45 minutes after brewing; boiled 8+ cups of coffee in glass carafe at time, melted plastic enclosure, significant smoke and smell, unit beeping softly (apparently a thermal alarm of some sort). Unplugged and moved unit outside in time to prevent fire/flames.

Owner: [REDACTED], male, age 49 Affected product: Ninja (American Ninja) Model #CE251 69, Serial # R06Q692AA0Z7, 12-cup drip coffeemaker Other information: Received as a gift from my wife at Christmas. Used daily for 5 months before incident. Unit is clean, in perfect condition, used in same location for entire life. Unit is plugged into a GFCI-protected outlet that did not trip during the incident.

Sequence of Events: - Set for delayed brew at 5AM, water filled to 8-cup line - Coffee brew cycle completed normally at ~5:15am, “STAY WARM” light lit - Poured 1 large mug (2 cups) at 5:15, replaced carafe - at 5:50AM heard beeping, went over to check unit. - unit making cracking sound), approx. 6 cups of remaining coffee inside carafe was boiling. Removed carafe, saw smoke coming from plastic near rear of burner. Unplugged unit and immediately took it outside, fearing imminent fire. House smelled of strong acrid smoke.

No injuries, however the coffeemaker appeared very close to bursting into flames. Had I not been in the same room at the time, I fear things could have been much worse.

Note there are at least 7 similar reports of smoke from other owners of the same coffeemaker on [REDACTED]

I am amending the subject report, as requested, with the information needed for it to be published:

Description of Risk of Harm 1) Fire -- until I unplugged the unit, the burner continued to getting hotter and hotter, plastic parts were melting and emitting noxious smoke, fire appeared imminent 2) Burn/scalding -- coffee in the glass carafe was much hotter than normal (boiling); plastic parts around burner which are normally safe to contact were very hot and melting Please confirm this is what was needed to publish the report. The unit is in my possession. If necessary, I can plug it back in and demonstrate that it catches fire.

I purchased a Ninja 12 cup coffee maker on the 29th of October, 2021, brought it home, washed it and was cut three places on my hand while washing the inside of the Carafe, there are sharp edges inside. I contacted them last week, I was asked to take pictures of the Carafe which I did and sent them to photo@sharkninja.com, and have not heard anything back from them. I purchased this coffeemaker at Wal Mart for 69.00 plus tax. It is my opinion that this product is very unsafe and should be noted as such.

The product, in the report: This is the Ninja Coffee Bar CF091 series. It’s black and stainless steel. It is 12” L by 6”W

Our Ninja Coffee Bar coffee maker caught fire. Normally my husband is gone at that time, but luckily for us he was home and in the kitchen when it started to spark and arc and smoke and he immediately took it outside. Had he not been home, it would have progressed and we could have had a kitchen or house fire, since I was in the other part of the house taking a shower! We could have been injured or worse! The coffee maker had brewed a pot of coffee an hour before and it was just keeping warm. The unit was two years old. My daughter and son-in-law have the same unit as do his parents. Will it happen to them? Ninja has been uncaring and will not return my phone calls. I even offered to ship the unit back to them so they can figure this out. The people who answer their customer service line gave me a case number and told me someone would call me back. Two days later I called them and had to repeat my story to customer service and I was told someone would contact me in 3-5 days. This unit cost over $200 and the only thing customer service says is that it’s out of warranty. Is it OK for a company to feel they have no responsibility for the safety of consumers after two years? That I should expect that a fire could occur and be OK with that?

The product, in the report: Ninja Coffee Maker CF 097 32

Received 3rd degree burn from steam from coffee maker while it was brewing.

This coffee maker vents steam from the top when it is brewing by design. In the black plastic there are words molded-“CAUTION - HOT SURFACE”. But, black on black lettering is not very visible. And, the surface itself is never hot, it is the stream coming from it, which isn’t very visible.

The situation was; the coffee maker has a water reservoir on the right side. I was making coffee, it stopped brewing and I noticed the reservoir was empty. I got some water to refill and opened the lid of the reservoir. The lid is hinged on the Left hand side to it opens to the left. When I tilted the lid to the left, it then comes to rest on the surface where the steam is vented. As I brought the lid over, this is when the steam that had been escaping burned my little finger.

I think this is a reasonable situation and I was not reckless. I needed my coffee and refilled the reservoir when I noticed it was empty. Other coffee makers do not vent steam so I didn’t think of this as a usual hazard. I had a blister from this--a true third degree burn. I have been applying scar treatment for weeks now but still have a red mark on my finger. I am concerned for others who may somehow lean across the top of the maker to reach for something in addition to the situation I had happen.

I purchased the ninja coffee bar CF091 with glass carafe from JcPenney. The first time I used it, I reached over the top to grab a mug as it was brewing and hot steam came out and burnt my forearm. I sustained a second degree burn that immediately blistered. There is no warning on top of the coffee pot regarding the steam and this could easily severely burn others.
