The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: NESCO coffee bean roaster (CR-04-13). Purchased from Amazon. Black body with some metal covering outside. About 10 inches tall. Model CR-04-13 Model 0 78262 01195 9

I was using a NESCO coffee bean roaster (CR-04-13) to roast 3 oz of green coffee beans. This was my second time roasting beans with this product. From the first time, I learned that roasting makes some smoke so I decided to roast in the bathroom with an exhaust fan. I placed it in the bathtub. The bathtub was completely dry when I used the product. It started smoking really badly after a few minutes of use on medium roast setting and I had to unplug it to stop the machine. It charred all the beans and melted the plastic lid. It kept producing smoke until it was cooled.

I am glad that it did not catch on fire but my apartment was filled with white smoke. I believe that this product is inherently unsafe. It does not seem to be designed properly to cut the power in case of overheating.
