The product, in the report: KitchenAid 14-Cup Glass Carafe Coffee Maker Model KCM222CU Contour Silver KCM222CU 14-cup electric coffee maker with black and silver plastic. Product link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TT2RVO?colid=DHXJA2L40BHX&coliid=IXUE59KJBTOD1
We used the Kitchenaid KCM222CU 14-cup electric coffee maker to make 10 cups of coffee. While pouring the coffee over our sink (because the glass carafe normally drips), the top plastic ring connecting the plastic handle to the glass came off. This caused the entire carafe to come apart and fall into the sink, splashing very hot freshly brewed coffee.
Thankfully nobody was hurt. However, if this had come off while removing the pot from the appliance or while pouring over the counter then we could have had severe injuries from 10-cups of scalding hot coffee and/or broken glass if the carafe fell.
The plastic ring can be press-fit back onto the silicone ring on top of the glass portion of the the carafe; however, we no longer trust this coffee maker. I could not find an applicable recall on KitchenAid.com or CPSC.gov for this defect.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 10/12 cup coffee maker. Model KCM111 glass carafe. Serial # WF70919498
Purchased a KitchenAid 10/12 cup coffee maker. Model KCM111, serial # WF70919498. When pouring coffee into a cup, scalding steam came up through the opening where the cover is attached to the handle and burned my hand. Thankfully not a serious injury, but still painful. Sent email complaint to manufacturer, when response implied that this was not a “common occurrence” I felt the issue would not get the investigation it needed. I wanted to make sure a “watchdog” group would be made aware of this.

No one hurt Made Aug 30, 2016, sent to the company Sep 9, 2016, published by CPSC Sep 23, 2016
The product, in the report: counter top portable coffee maker
I purchased a KitchenAid coffee maker. The coffee maker has a hidden medal hinge pin in the top rear that protrudes out after about 3 weeks of daily use. This pin is sharp and can puncture skin. In addition, it is located where you hang the plastic water canister in the top rear of the coffee maker. The protruding pin scrapes plastic filings into the water canister when you place it into the proper position. Model KCM111OB, Serial # WF55202466.
I notified KitchenAid Customer Service who sent me a replacement coffee maker - I returned to them the defective unit. After about 3 weeks of daily use, the 2nd coffee maker also had the same problem with the hidden pin that protrudes with the sharp point and escaping the plastic water canister. I called KitchenAid Customer Service again and they sent me a different model replacement: model [REDACTED], serial # [REDACTED]. After about 3 weeks of daily use, this 3rd coffee maker had the same exact problem as the others with a sharp protruding pin that can puncture skin and shaves plastic filings into the water canister that can be ingested by the consumer. I notified KitchenAid and told them that they have a product design safety issue that needs to be addressed by their product design team. They obviously are using this same hidden hinge pin on several of their models.
I believe that they should be taking this product off the market until they can correct the safety problem.

KitchenAid coffee maker Model # KCM1110B Serial # WF23002531
Coffee maker failed to shut down after brewing. There is a switch with a small blue indicator on the front of the unit that is used to wake-up the device, to initiate a normal or a timed brew cycle. (This indicator is being pointed as it is a visual indicator of the units status). Normally and in all previous usages the coffee maker would turn off the heating element after brewing and plus approximately 2 hours warming time the blue indicator would then be turned off.
We had made a pot of coffee, filled our “to-go” cups, turned off the unit and left the house. When we returned four hours latter and we started to make another pot, I noticed the pot and burner were still very warn to the touch even though the heating indicator was extinguished. After adding water to the reservoir the brew process started without the unit being turned on. Not believing what I was seeing I unplugged the unit (app. 2 minutes), when I plugged the back in the brew process restarted once again without the switch being depressed nor the indicator being lit. This morning when I plugged in the unit it started to brew, without being enabled via the switch. And once again we returned home we tried for a fourth thing... same thing happened, plug it in and brewing starts.
The concept of having a 1000watt heat source sitting on my counter top, generating hear for hours on end is worry sum as it could easily start a fire.
I will admit that the owners manual states “Unplug coffee maker from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts” If it should be UNPLUG WHEN NOT IN USE!!! Why then would it come with a clock and a brew timer?
I am currently testing the unit (fourth test) to see if it continues to misbehave... After this test, the unit did act as it should have, after 2.5hrs the blue light was extinguished and within .5 hrs the heating plate was cool to the touch.
Bottom line is that we no longer trust it not to burn down our home.

The product, in the report: This is a KithenAid 14 cup programmable coffee maker. m/n KCM222CUO s/n WT03215922
We own a KitchenAid 14 cup programmable coffee maker. We have had it for a 2-4 years, can’t remember exactly. Last week we found that even though the coffee maker had automatically turned of (according to the blue light on the brew button) the burner had actually remained on cooking what coffee was left. It appears to just be full on. It does this all the time so now it must be unplugged for fear of burning down it gets so hot. We have actually ordered a new coffee pot and will be getting rid of this one.
I sent an email to KitchenAid last week but have yet to rerceive an email back. Decided to call (Jan 21, 2014). They are sending me a free replacement coffee maker and want me to return the defective one.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 27, 2013, sent to the company Apr 26, 2013, published by CPSC May 10, 2013
The product, in the report: coffee maker 14 cup
Incident Description: On January 7, 2013, I purchased a brand new Kitchen Aid Empire Red 14 cup coffee pot (Model #KCM1402ERO) (Serial #WE23207957) from Target. The very first time I used the new coffee pot, it malfunctioned. This coffee pot has a spring loaded basket where you place the coffee grounds. I was standing at the kitchen counter making toast, which was right next to the coffee pot, when all of a sudden, the basket door of the coffee pot flew open. It was filled with hot water and hot coffee grounds, which splashed onto my left wrist/hand area and down the left front of my shirt, burning me with scalding hot liquid and hot coffee grounds from the basket. Hot coffee grounds and hot coffee splashed on me and all over the kitchen counter and down the fronts of the cabinets. I immediately put ice on my burns, (my left wrist/hand area and a quarter size area on my stomach). After cleaning up a huge mess in the kitchen due to this incident, I made a second pot of coffee, thinking that maybe I didn’t close the basket door properly the first time. Not more than 2 to 3 minutes into the 2”d attempt to brew a pot of coffee, the exact same malfunction happened again. Once again, I had a big mess to clean up. I called Kitchen Aid and reported the incident. They gave me a report # (SR# [REDACTED]) I talked to “[REDACTED]”. She told me that they did not have any other complaints or reports on that model coffee pot, therefore she suggested that I return to them that coffee pot and they would send me a new one. I was reluctant at frrst, but she assured me that I was the only one that had a problem, thus far. They frrst had to send me a FedX shipping label so that I could return the non-working coffee pot to them, and once I did that, they sent me a new one. This was a 6 week timeframe. I received the new coffee pot, exact same model (KCM 1402ERO) and the new Serial # is WE24141881. The very frrst pot of coffee that was made with the new pot, the exact same malfunction happened. Five minutes into the brewing time, the basket door flew open with hot coffee grounds and hot coffee splashing everywhere. On March 27, 2013 I contacted Kitchen Aid once again and this time I requested a refund. Kitchen Aid wanted to send me a THIRD coffee pot. I refused. I talked to “[REDACTED]” and he told me that I had to give them my original receipt from Target in order to get a full refund. I did not have the receipt to give them so after a lengthy argument, Kitchen Aid agreed to a full refund. Once again, I will receive a F edX shipping label to return the coffee pot to Kitchen Aid and once they receive it, they will process my refund. I strongly suggested to Kitchen Aid that they recall this coffee pot before it harms another consumer. They continue to suggest that they have not had any other complaints on this Model. I do not believe that and I am convinced that there is a design flaw with the basket door. I had 2 brand new models and they both malfunctioned. Once the basket fills with hot water, the weight of the coffee grounds and hot water causes the basket door to slip below the latching mechanism thus releasing the basket door allowing it to open, filled with hot liquid and hot coffee grounds that splash out during the force of the door being released. The spring on this basket door is a heavy duty spring. I was a Target yesterday and this Kitchen Aid Model Coffee Pot remains on their shelves. I have included copies of my correspondence from Kitchen Aid and also pictures of the coffee pot. I sincerely hope that the Consumer Product Safety Commission takes whatever action necessary to force Kitchen Aid to recall this dangerous product. Please note ... the scald burns that I received from this incident was bad enough that the area on my left wrist/hand peeled, and I still have a quarter size scar on my stomach. I medicated myself and did not seek outside medical treatment. I was lucky that the burns where not more serious. I told the personnel that I spoke with at Kitchen Aid that the next consumer that gets burned by this design flawed coffee pot might not be so accommodating.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaide Electric Countertop Coffee Maker, Model #KCM111OB, Black and Silver with a round digital clock display, push button controls and a removable water tank in the back
I purchased a Kitchenaide Countertop Coffee Maker (Model # KCM111OB) in May of this year. About two months later, I began having issues with it. It shorted out just after it finished brewing. I unplugged it and let it dry throughly and began using it again. It seemed okay until about a month later when I tried to run it through it’s first cleaning cycle. After the cleaning cycle, it would no longer brew. The water would not filter through the maker and when I touched it, it was incredibly hot. I did not actually burn myself; but it was much hotter than any coffee maker I’ve ever used has gotten. At that point, I contacted Kitchenaide via e-mail. I described the issues and asked them what we could do. we went back and forth a bit because I actually wanted my money back so I could buy a different coffee maker. However, all they would do was send me a new one of the same thing because that’s all their warranty allowed for. I was not pleased; but I accepted the replacement. I have had the replacement one for three weeks now. At the end of the first week, it began doing the same things as the original one - it shorted out once and sometimes does not filter the water through when it should be brewing. I think this coffee maker is dangerous and could easily result in a house fire or burn injury.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid Coffe Maker
The consumer stated that his coffee maker is a burn hazard as his coffee maker has a front door where the cup that holds the coffee grounds, has tendency to swing open posing a burn hazard. There is no mechanism to keep this door secured. The consumer also stated that the coffee maker has the coffee spill out of the rubber gasket atop where the coffee comes out of the coffee maker. This gasket is glued and the glue is now peeling, causing coffee to spill in all directions. The consumer stated that he has not been hurt by the product but the hot coffee has spilled on his foot.
The consumer called the firm about the issue 3 times as of two weeks ago. The consumer called the firm two weeks ago and told the consumer that they were aware of the problem. The consumer was informed that this coffee maker could have a new door and coffee pot but was currently unavailable. The consumer didn’t think that this was a viable solution. The consumer researched online how to order a replacement and found that these replacement parts were on sale.
The consumer called back the firm’s 800 number and requested to speak with the corporate office. The consumer called the corporate office and told the consumer that they would send him the new model of that coffee maker. The firm called him back and advised him to mail back the old coffee maker in a pre posted envelope.
The consumer received the “new” coffee maker and it is the exact same as his old one and poses the same hazard. Subsequently, the consumer has left 4 messages with the firm who have yet to call him back. The consumer has not had his home damaged by the product. The consumer stated that the product does not appear damaged.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid 14 cup coffee maker (model # KCM222CU) Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TT2RVO/ref=cm_cr_mts_prod_img
I have a Kitchen Aid 14-Cup Coffee Maker (model# KCM222CU) that I started using on 2/3/11. This morning (6/22/11), my husband set the timer to turn on at 5:30 AM, and then I went to get coffee from the maker at 7:45 AM. I noticed that the coffee was abnormally hot, and then noticed that the maker had an error message on the screen. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, I turned off the machine, and the error message disappeared. About an hour later I heard the coffee maker make a noise, and realized that although the unit was off the heating element under the carafe was still heating (much, much hotter than normal). I unplugged the unit several times, but each time I would plug it back in it would immediately heat up again (the unit was turned off the entire time). Apparently the unit had gotten so hot that it had burned the carafe a bit around the metal ring on the glass portion. I really think that had I not noticed that the element was still heating that the carafe would have eventually caught fire.
I contacted Kitchen Aid, and they didn’t seem surprised to hear about the problem. I think that they are well aware of the fire danger of this unit but continue to sell it to consumers. I found comments on Amazon.com of at least one other user who had the same issue that I did.
