The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach BrewStation Programmable 12 cup coffee maker. This device is somewhat unique in that it has a reservoir for super-heating added water and then another reservoir for holding the final brewed coffee. The brewed coffee reservoir also has a heating plate to keep the brewed coffee warm. When you want to fill your cup with coffee, you hold the cup under dispenser as you press the cup against the dispenser lever.

We have a Hamilton Beach Brew Station Coffee Maker Model 48464 or 48465 (almost identical). The device has a water reservoir and a self-contained coffee reservoir, where brewed coffee can be kept warm for preset number of hours until dispensed from reservoir into coffee mug. When I awoke in the morning I started a morning routine to make fresh coffee. There was residual coffee in the “coffee” reservoir. The device was powered (plugged into wall outlet), but had been in OFF mode since previous morning’s brew cycle had ended. When I lifted the lid, condensed water dribbles back down into the water reservoir (as it usually does). However, when the water dripped back into the water reservoir, the open lid shot steam back out, as if the device was in brew mode. I felt the out side of the coffee maker and found that the lower half (where the water reservoir is) was very hot. When I removed the self-contained coffee reservoir from the appliance, I found the left over coffee to be at room temperature. This meant that the “coffee” heating element was NOT on, but that the “water” reservoir heating element (brewer coil) was on (and HOT). When I mentioned the incident to my wife, she stated that the coffee maker had the same problem one week earlier. I suspect that this malfunction could be a fire hazard and/or an injury (burn) hazard. I did read another consumer complaint that sounded like their same device had similar issue (Incident Report | 5/18/2020 | [REDACTED]).

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 1.7L Electric Tea Kettle, Water Boiler & Heater, LED Indicator, Built-In Mesh Filter, Auto-Shutoff & Boil-Dry Protection, Cordless Serving, Clear Glass (40864)

I proceeded to boil water in a Hamilton Beach Electric Tea Kettle Model 40864 . It is one year old and has been used daily since purchased. The water level in the kettle was well above the minimum indicated. The kettle has an automatic shut off feature that engages shortly after the water reaches boiling temperature. Sometimes I shut the kettle off manually when the water starts to boil as was the case today. When I picked up the kettle from the base I immediately noticed smoke pouring out from the center core of the base where it makes the electrical connection to the kettle. This was accompanied by a strong smell of melting plastic. If the kettle had been left to shut off automatically, I strongly suspect a fire might have occurred.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Flexbrew Trio with carafe and side for single serving, which uses reusable coffee filter (this is the issue. I wash it with soap and water regularly, but it’s not enough. The oil from the grounds becomes embedded in the filter and doesn’t allow water to move through, which creates a buildup of pressure. Following the incident, I scrubbed with a toothbrush and baking soda followed that with a vinegar rinse and that cleaned it.) The makers need to emphasize the importance of cleaning the filter (with more than soap and water) and describe what will happen if one does not.

Coffee pot exploded resulting in 1st and 2nd degree burns on face and chest. Product is Hamilton Beach Flexbrew. The single cup side was brewing a cup. It threw an error message (overloaded or something like that). When my daughter when in to look, the brew basket exploded open and spewed hot coffee and grounds all over her and the kitchen (flying as far as 8 ft into the kitchen). She went to urgent care and has 1st and 2nd degree burns on face and chest.

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker

The consumer’s husband filled their coffee maker with water the night before to brew the next morning. The consumer woke up and noticed to start the unit and noticed that there was water on her countertop. When the consumer looked underneath the unit, there was a puddle of water covering the coffee maker’s cord.

The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative she spoke to offered her a fifty-percent discount for a replacement unit however the consumer declined. In their latest e-mail, the consumer was informed that the issue she reported is a known problem with their coffee makers thus they have changed the interior tubing design to correcting problem.

The consumer states that the unit is used once daily, and that it is a replacement of the same model number coffee maker that was replaced by the manufacturer because it posed the same safety hazard.

The consumer plans on keeping her coffee maker for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Electric Tea Kettle

I have an electric tea kettle from Hamilton Beach, model #40880, serial #A3171CE. I used the kettle with no problem for at least a year (after which it was no longer covered by warranty). It then began to leak from the part where the clear “fill line” window meets the stainless steel carafe. It leaks to the extent that it leaves a HUGE puddle of water around it, and the electrical base is sitting in a puddle of water, with plugged-in cords all around it. This could obviously lead to someone getting electrocuted.

This does not occur if there is only a very small amount of water in the carafe (about one cup).

I finally figured out exactly what was happening and called Hamilton Beach today. They said I was out of warranty, and offered to replace it for half price plus $11 shipping. Mostly, I am concerned that there is an extremely unsafe product on the market, and they don’t appear to care. They did not put me on with any product people, just the regular call center. This product should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Coffee carafe to a coffee maker

While removing the glass coffee carafe from the coffee maker (Hamilton Beach, 49980, serial # A28110), the plastic handle where it was “fitted” into the top of the glass carafe became separated from the glass pot. Luckily I did not drop it or burn myself, I only spilled coffee on the counter. There does not appear to be anyway to fix this and even if there were, I would not feel comfortable ever using it again. So, I will have to purchase a new one from a retail store today, as I cannot wait until a replacement is mailed from HB. I was lucky but the next person could be injured from either broken glass or hot coffee.

The product, in the report: It is a coffee maker that makes pots on one side and Kcups on the second side. This is the replacement the company sent. The pot leaks clear water on the pot side. You already have a file on this that I saw in your archives.

This is the email I sent to Hamilton Beach Customer Service describing the problem: I am writing to you once again about a problem with this coffee maker leaking clear water on the full pot side. In September 2018 I wrote to your customer service to describe the problem I had with the coffee maker. You told me to cut the wire on the coffee maker, send a picture. and you replaced the coffee maker. I love this coffee maker but it seems to have real leakage problems. These photos are of the bottom of the new coffee pot that was sent, so you can see the serial number This model of coffee maker seems to have a defect that is well known on the internet because I found several YouTube videos about how to fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jnuk68pLqpo This link is not the only one of the videos on how to fix the water leakage I found just by searching for this coffee pot on the internet. I even tried to do the fix, but my leakage must be up in the closed area and while I was willing to take screws out of the bottom to see if it was something I could easily fix, I will not take the whole side off the pot. We use this pot almost every day and although I can still use the K-cup side, I need to make a full pot a couple of times a week.At this point I believe I deserve a refund. The water from this pot ran down my cabinets onto my slate floors while I was doing other things in the kitchen. This is unacceptable and I do not want water damage on my floors and cabinets. Hamilton Beach Brands Inc. 49976 Flex Brew 2-Way Coffee Maker $115.71 I found this price quote on Amazon. I will not buy this coffee pot again because I cannot keep spending time on this issue. I need a product that works. You all must know there is a problem with this model. If this cannot be resolved I will make a complaint to the Consumer Product Safety Board. This water leakage represents a safety issue if someone slips on unexpected water on the floor and a possible electrical shock problem.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Flex Brew Coffee Maker Model 49983A

I purchased a Hamilton Beach Flex Brew Model 49983 on 10/22/16. On 5/26/17 the upper water reservoir started leaking into the lower electrical compartment, and out the bottom of the unit. Aside from the mess created on my counter top, I believe this issue could pose a potential shock hazard since the water comes in contact with the electrical. I was prompted to write this report after finding numerous complaints on this issue with a general internet search. I actually found report # 20150815-6EC23-2147429320 on this website which matches my issue exactly. Hamilton Beach was contacted and made aware of the issue. They didn’t seem too concerned about the issue and only offered to replace my unit for a fee.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Percolator

Purchased in February 2016 a Hamilton Beach percolator model #40621R/A46318VBV. In July 2016, started to brew some coffee, the glass knob blew off breaking into pieces. Had to pour out the coffee for fear that glass was in the coffee. Contacted Hamilton Beach only to be told if I return the product at my expense they would examine it and then informed me if they would replace it. Hamilton Beach sent me a UPS mailing label via email with instructions to drop and UPS store and I refused due to my health challenge. In another email, I stated I would contact the Illinois Attorney General office and FCC for further investigation which I did. Hamilton Beach sent another email offering to replace the same percolator or another one equal in price or lessor price because the model I had was out of stock. So I visited the site only to discovered that this model has been out of stock for quite sometime because I had previously visited Hamilton Beach in January 2016 for the same percolator and then it was out of stock online but was available in a store and this made me think that they already knew that the model was defective and was not stocking anymore in stores.

Hamilton Beach knew the product was defective because they stated in the email please don’t discard or give to any other agency for investigation. Hamilton Beach knows that the products that are manufactured in CHINA have major defects and yet still sell them in America. On 9/27/2016 I received the replacement but my concern since the product I selected was of lesser price and I was due monies and they have refused to do so.

I purchased a Hamilton Beach percolator model 40622 at Bed Bath and Beyond. We have been using it for about a year. This morning he set up the coffee to perk. A short while later the glass bulb at the top exploded and shot coffee and glass all over the kitchen. Fortunately nobody was hurt but it took almost 2 hours to clean up the mess. This product is not safe.

A glass percolator bulb in the design of the lid is failing by grinding glass which is then taken into the coffee. Hamilton Beach coffee maker #49983 failed to brew full amount of coffee, instead overheats and produces large amounts of steam that caused k-cups to melt and blistering burns. I have contacted the certifying lab stamped on the machine. ETL labs catherine.turi@intertek.com and the machines are being shipped there.

The product, in the report: 2-Way FlexBrew® Coffeemaker (49983). The 2-Way FlexBrew® Coffeemaker maximizes your brewing flexibility and offers more brewing options than most coffeemakers. To start your day, you can use the single-serve side to brew into a standard-size cup or brew up to a 14 oz. travel mug. What’s more, you have the choice of brewing with a single-serve pack or your favorite ground coffee. On mornings when you want to enjoy cup after cup, or when you’re entertaining, the carafe side makes a full 12-cup pot. So much in so little space, the 2-Way FlexBrew® Coffeemaker provides maximum flexibility for your coffee drinking enjoyment.

This coffeemaker is a hazard. The warming plate stays hot whether or not you use the carafe side. This is a problem when the right side single-cup brewer doesn’t work. It sounds like it’s heating up but the water stays in the unit. When I try to empty the unit, sometimes the water comes out and sometimes it doesn’t. Today, suddenly, the water came out 5 or 10 minutes after I removed a mug. While trying to stop the flood, I inadvertently burned my skin with the hot water and the plate, which was still hot after the single cup brewed. I had to take the carafe off the unit in order to drain the water that never came out of the single serve side. Fortunately, I was near a sink and applied cold water and ice immediately so I will be fine. It is a defective and dangerous product and I am requesting a full refund from Hamilton Beach. I purchased this at Sam’s Club in Fridley, MN in November, 2013 so it has been less than a year. I paid $79.99 plus tax. I could probably get a receipt from Sam’s, and it will like be on my credit card, but I think Hamilton Beach should refund the money regardless of whether I can find the receipt from last November. I have emailed Hamilton Beach with this exact complaint and I told them I would be filing a complaint with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I hope you will investigate this problem and remove this product from the market. While it is a novel idea, the product is too dangerous to be sold.

    Re: Consumer number [REDACTED]

Your item is being returned for producing a dangerous amount of steam, and reducing 8 measured ounces of water to 2 ounces at the end of the brewing cycle.

I have measured this on several occasions; I have in fact utilized the brew basket to eliminate the possibility of defective [REDACTED]s. Nevertheless, the unit will not brew a cup of coffee unless I run the cycle three times to get an 8 ounce fluid output.

My first identical unit behaved similarly and was replaced under warranty though I paid a $15 shipping fee. Unfortunately the replacement unit performed well for the first two cups of brewed coffee only to repeat the issues of a large amount of steam resulting in a diminished hot water output.

If you find this unit to be within your specifications upon testing, I DO NOT WANT IT TO BE RETURNED, as I have no further faith in Hamilton Beach products. I had always considered your name to represent quality and dependability, but it now appears that your foreign production does not live up to what my parents received from Hamilton Beach.

If you find this product to be again defective I would rather receive either a refund of suggested retail price or substitution to a more dependable model.

I believe model 4995R Series C0341CE is unsafe. I advise your office to consider notifying the Consumer Protection Division for a possible recall.

    Very truly yours,

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Stainless Steele 12-Cup Percolator, 40614, SILVER

    Dear [REDACTED]

Enclosed is the Hamilton Beach Stainless Steele 12-Cup Percolator that I reported to you on November 27th as causing a sever burn across my abdomen to which I emailed pictures to you.

The burn occurred on the evening of November 26th when I accidently spilled coffee while sitting down on the couch. I was clothed in pajamas and a cotton robe tied in thE front. When the liquid spilled out of the cup onto my robe, I immediately felt it come through to my skin and jumped up and tore my robe loose and pulled my pajama pants away while screaming in pain. My husband was sitting in the recliner next to the couch and jumped up to assist me and noticed the immediate blistering.

On November 27th, I visited my doctor’s office and Dr. [REDACTED] classified the burn as a 2”d degree with the blisters and recommended to keep aloe lotion on the burn and [REDACTED] as needed and take [REDACTED] for pain.

Prior to sending you the percolator, I experimented following the owner’s manual and comparing to my Hamilton Beach coffee maker. Using a meat thermometer, I determined that the percolator reaches 195 degrees after percolating at the point the light indicator changes from blue to green signaling ready to pour contents. Then, I waited 2 hours and retested the coffee temperature and it was still 185 degrees. My Hamilton Beach coffee maker averages 165 degrees from the time it stops processing throughout the time the warmer is on.

This test concluded that there is a significant difference in temperature between my Hamilton Beach coffee maker and the enclosed Hamilton Beach percolator. I truly had no idea the temperature difference since there are no warnings or information regarding the scalding heat level and serious burn risk.

Based on consumer market research, the average age of purchasers of this percolator are between 54- 65 years old. As we age, our skin thins and burns become more severe and healing takes longer so I take this very personal and am concerned that there simply is not enough warnings on this percolator. The only warning in the manual and on the pot is to not immerse in water because of the electrical base.

A disturbing statement contained in the manual and as part of the specifications is, “coffee stays hot with a gentle keep-warm heater.” In the instructions, it also indicate the liquid stays “warm” without warning of just how hot the liquid is kept at on the warmer. I can assure you that there is nothing “gentle” about the keep-warm heater and the liquid is not kept warm, but just below boiling temperature. The only mention of scalding is if the cap is removed during the percolation cycle, not from the liquid after the light turns green.

There is a negative impact to my life since this incident occurred. I am not able to wear normal clothes because of the location and size of the burn across my stomach. Instead, I am wearing elastic band workout pants with the elastic pulled down below the burn. While I am able to work remotely at home, I have had to cancel several face-to-face meetings and decline certain holiday functions. Today, I will email you an updated photograph of the burn so you can see that even after 8 days, there is little to no improvement. I am forwarding a copy of this letter to an attorney friend as I believe this is a serious matter that requires escalation.

Thank you for your kindness and immediate response to my report of this incident on November 2th.

    Sincerely [REDACTED]

Dear [REDACTED] I received your reply letter and must admit that I am disappointed in the lack of data to support your short statement concluding that the percolator was not defective. I took the time and effort to conduct a series of tests between the Hamilton Beach percolator and our Hamilton Beach coffee maker to determine the temperature differences and would have appreciated at least the same level of data to support the ruling of “not defective” based on your internal testing. I am not looking to fight or sue Hamilton Beach. What I am expecting is reimbursement for the purchase, doctor’s appointment and the few medical supplies to soothe the burn and pain along with a promise that Hamilton Beach will apply more warnings to this percolator raising awareness of potential scalding. I can assure you that as a home-based worker for 13 years that consumes either hot tea or coffee all day, I have spilled my share of liquid on myself. However, I have never experienced a burn such as the one I did with the coffee from this percolator. It has been over 5 weeks since the accident occurred and the burn is still very red and continuing to heal. Enclosed are a set of the time-lapsed photos taken immediately after the burn on 11/25 through 12/31 evidencing that I am still healing. It just amazes me that I sustained a burn such as this through my robe and pajama top. I cannot imagine how severe it would have been if I had not had my robe on at the time of the spill. I remain very concerned that Hamilton Beach refuses to acknowledge that they have insufficient warnings on this percolator and in my opinion has the following false statement in the instruction guide, “How To Heat Water I Step 8: Ready Light will glow when water is hot, and percolator will automatically go into a keep-warm mode.” The liquid remains extremely hot, not warm. Based on my tests and comparisons, the water heats to scalding and the warmer maintains a very hot heat level. Therefore, by stating gentle keep-warm heater misrepresents the hot temperature that is continuously maintained by the warmer. The only reference to scalding is if the cap is removed during the percolation cycle. Since Hamilton Beach insists there is nothing wrong with this product and refuses to acknowledge the potential for scalding if spilled, I am reporting this to the North Carolina Consumer Protection Bureau and the United States Consumer Product Commission in hopes they will encourage Hamilton Beach to improve their warning and avoid others from experiencing such a painful ugly burn. I am enclosing receipts for the expenses I’ve incurred due to this accident I sustained by purchasing this percolator and am requesting full reimbursement at your earliest convenience.

    Sincerely [REDACTED]

My coffee pot made a full pot of coffee and then when I went back for a second cup about an hour later, the GFI had tripped. I unplugged the cord from the wall, unplugged the cord from the pot check out the cord. It looked fine. Plugged the cord back into the coffee pot, reset the GFI and plugged it into the outlet. The coffee pot did not turn on. So I pushed on the cord to make sure it was all the way into the pot. There was a big flash and I was shocked. Then the cord burned for a good 4-5 seconds before the GFI tripped again. The flame was about 3 inches tall and it scorched the place mat that it was sitting on.

My in-laws have the same coffee pot and it also shocked them a few weeks ago. It did not start on fire though,

Purchased Hamilton Beach Coffemaker Model 43253R [REDACTED] on August 9, 2013. On the morning of August 21, 2013 went to get pot to make coffee and the pot was hot. touched the warmer plate and it was hot. The coffeemaker WAS turn OFF. So I thought!!! For some unknown reason coffeemaker doesn’t work with on/off button. Not known to me coffeemaker was on all night. The ONLY way to turn this coffeemaker off is to keep it unplugged.

The product, in the report: Black and silver automatic 12-cup Hamilton Beach new Coffee Maker. Model 43254R, Series A4011DT Purchased at Sams Club, Dale City, VA.

I purchased a new Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker Model 43254R, Series A4011DT from Sams Club in Dale City, Virginia a few months ago.

I made coffee in the morning. I always make enough for two days of coffee and just microwave the remaining or make iced coffee with it later. I left in the morning for the day. I came home late at night and it was only because my child wanted a dinner at 9:30 p.m. that I was even in the kitchen. After making dinner I kept hearing the pop of a heating element. I searched everywhere - no heating element indicator lights on anywhere in kitchen. I gave up, shut off all lights and started to go upstairs for the night, heard the heating element sound again. So I started touching things - and this coffee maker, all lights off, was on and HOT! It had evaporated my half pot of coffee during the day and all that was left was a welded black hardened mess at bottom.

I have unplugged it, but this is new, and shouldn’t be happening. The auto-off feature has ALWAYS worked. I almost never turn it off manually. There is no auto-off override.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Ensemble 12-cup programmable coffee maker

7/31/12/ - Initial Purchase of Hamilton Beach Ensemble 12-cup coffee maker (product ID 43254R) - online. Programmed/used once monthly for early meetings.

12/3/12 - had noticed slight burning smell in break room week before and realized this day that hot plate had come on without ever turning on the machine. Carafe extremely hot, and machine would not turn off without unplugging. Spoke with HB - replacement to be sent under warranty for cost of shipping.

12/20/12 - received replacement. Within 1 month, noticed auto shut-off feature not working - light shuts off, but hot plate remains on and won’t shut off without unplugging. After this, kept unplugged, though we bought this product for the timer feature and it would need it to be plugged in to use this. Did not bother returning, as same problem as last time and didn’t want to pay shipping yet again.

2/19/13 - Opened cover to place filter. Took out filter basket to clean (did not touch the front of the machine) and the machine immediately got very hot and began steaming (must have had water remaining in the system). Coffee maker was not turned on. I hurried to fill the water and place filter and coffee while steam coming out. Made entire pot of coffee without ever turning on the machine. Emailed HB again, with product info (43254R, A4221D).

Seems to be a hazard to have a coffee maker that comes on and gets very hot when not in use. Now, looking at reviews online, I’m not the only one this has happened to.

The product, in the report: 12 cup, drip coffeemaker

My Hamilton Beach 12 cup drip coffeemaker (Type A53;model#49756) turns on and off without being either switched on manually or, programmed with the clock. This behavior began in the past week. The coffeemaker was purchased approximately 2 years ago. Several times I noticed the product turn on (brewing light went on and heating pad became hot) without being prompted. There was no water in the machine so the carafe became very hot. Also, after turning the machine on, manually, the coffeemaker switched off by itself. The machine has a safety shut-off after being on for 2 hours but in these instances it had only been on for a half hour. The machine is programmable and I sometimes set it to start by itself in the morning but, when the machine is in the program mode, it is always indicated by a green light illuminating. In the instances when the machine turned on/off by itself, the green light was not illuminated. The users manual states that the machine should be unplugged when either it is not in use or the clock is not functioning. The clock was functioning however.

    JULY 21, 2012

    TO WHOM,

TODAY I WAS WASHING MY HAMILTON BEACH ELECTRIC COFFEE PERCULATOR. IN ORDER TO WASH THE INSIDE OF THE PERCULATOR, YOU HAVE TO STICK YOUR HAND INSIDE WITH A SPONGE OR DISH RAG, WHATEVER, TO WIPE AROUND THE INSIDE AND CLEAN IT OUT.

WELL, WHEN I DID THIS, A CUT MY PINKY FINGER BADLY ON THE EDGE OF THE METAL AROUND THE HOLE IN THE SIDE THAT GOES TO THE SPOUT. THIS EDGE IS RAZOR SHARP METAL, AND SLICED ALMOST A 1” CUT INTO MY RIGHT PINKY,

I WORK A LOT WITH MY HANDS, AND MY SKIN IS ON THE HARD, THICK SIDE. I DO NOT CUT EASILY. I WOULD THINK THAT A SMALLER FINGER OR HAND COULD SUFFER A MUCH MORE SERIOUS WOUND.

WHEN THIS ITEM WAS MANUFACTURED, THESE EDGES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ROLLED OVER, SO AS NOT TO ALLOW THIS RAZOR SHARP EDGE TO BE ABLE TO COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE HAND.

    THE ELECTRIC PERCULATOR IS :

    HAMILTON BEACH ELECTRIC PERCULATOR P-15 MODEL 40616 SERIAL# C977118V

I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THIS, AS THIS CAN BE A REAL SAFETY HAZARD.

The product, in the report: Stated in incident report. Second machine that has done about the same thing. (Hamilton Beach Expresson & Cappuccino Machine model 40715)

I had a Espresso & Cappuccino machine model 40729 It started streaming and became very dangerous. I just saw that it was on the recall. After I stopped using it my husband purchased another Hamilton Beach Model 40715 and very soon like after about 4 cups of coffee it really showed it was defective because it would steam out of the coffee ground cup and burned my hand by the steam.Obviously I stopped using that one also. I contacted Hamilton Beach right after this happened and all they said was that it was suppose to do this. Now I would really like to return both of these the recalled one and the new one because of safety problems and i truly hope that I will get assistance on this from Hamilton Beach this time. Thank you [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Brew Station

My name is [REDACTED] and I’m reporting this on behalf of my mother in law (her address is listed in this report), [REDACTED]. According to [REDACTED] the following is a summary of what happened at her home on April 4, 2012:

About 2:45pm, my daughter [REDACTED] and I were home. She was sitting at the kitchen table and I was in the family room. All of a sudden all three of the smoke detectors in our home went off. As I jumped up to see what was making the detectors go off, my daughter turned to the kitchen and at the same time, we both saw flames coming out of the back of the Brew Station. My daughter instinctively yelled fire and I ran to the kitchen to help put the flames out. I unplugged it quickly (it was plugged in but was not in use/not turned on at the time) we struggled to get the flames out because they were coming out of the back of the unit, near the top rather than the bottom where the cord is at. We managed to get the Brew Station into the sink so we could douse more water on it to extinguish the flames entirely. It took a minute to get the flames out but we did. We took the Brew Station out to the garage in an attempt to remove the smoke and charred smell. The smell lingered in the house for some time afterward. As can be seen by the pictures of the unit, the fire clearly came from within the unit and near the top of the backside of the unit. Had we not been home, our kitchen and house would have clearly caught on fire. The unit is clearly ruined and has extensive damage - far more than ever imagined. I certainly hope this has not ever happened to anyone else and am now very concerned that the product was not safe to begin with. To think of what may have happened had we not been home to extinguish the fire so quickly, clearly we would have had far worse fire/smoke damage. I am very disappointed with this product. Coffee makers are likely one kitchen product which is used most frequently in a home.

The coffee maker (47214) brews coffee and after it comes out the bottom. My grandaughter was here at my house and it did that and her hand got a lil burned nothing major cuz I was able to pull her but coffee gets extremely hot enough to burn someone. Not safe at all. It’s happened before but didn’t really worry me until my granddaughter was here. Plus I went online and saw a lot of people with the same problem. I’ve tried contacting Hamilton beach at 1-800-672-5872 and no luck getting to a representative.
