The product, in the report: GE 12-cup percolator purchased at Wal-Mart. Red and white package. Box says “UL”. Aplliace labeled “UL”. Rig on appliance, power cord, and plug do not say “UL”.
New electric coffee percolator. Used according to manufacturer’s instructions, which were read & followed. First use: smoke and burning come out around plug on appliance. Loud spark (blue color) around plug on appliance. Circuit braker tripped. Black residue around plug. Black residue on bottom of appliance and on counter. Appliance had been plugged in for only about one and a half (1 1/2) minutes.
