The product, in the report: Farberware coffee maker with a coffee pot and Keurig coffee maker also
Our coffee maker of 1 year does not shut off with the water heater staying on constantly. Once the water is circulated to the coffee pot the water heater stays on creating a fire hazard. The product is a Farberware coffee maker purchased at Wal Mart. Both my wife and I use the appliance, and the issue just started occurring this week. The unit needs to be unplugged in order to stop the water heater from being energized. The appliance is used once sometimes twice a day to make coffee. There were no injuries. As a retired fire investigator I feel this is a fire hazard and needs to be reported. Thew appliance is a Farberware model FW61100042831U UL listed E517858. It was made in China.

The product, in the report: Single Cup Coffee Maker
This consumer received a single cup coffee maker as a gift for Christmas 2018. She had noticed odd noises when she brewed a cup of coffee but paid no attention to them, however on July 30th, 2019 she was preparing a cup of coffee as usual when the water shot out of the top of the unit and burned her right breast and right armpit. She was in pain so on July 31, 2019 she drove herself to Carolina East Health Center where she was diagnosed with superficial burns. She will be submitting pictures of her burns. She is asking that this coffee maker be investigated and a recall generated to avoid another consumer from this burn or worse burns. She has attempted to contact the manufacturer but has thus far been unsuccessful. She will continue trying to contact them. She has contacted the retailer where the representative whose name will be added by consumer at later date escalated the complaint and this consumer is waiting for a return call.

The product, in the report: Coffee Maker Farberware Brand sold by WalMart, made in China, Model 103744 Unsafe carafe
Product: Coffee Maker electric, Brand: Farberware, sold by WalMart Stores. Made in China
The lid on the carafe of this product does not snap shut. When pouring the last cup of coffee the lid falls open and burns the hand of the individual with hot steam released from inside the carafe.
The pour spout of the carafe is too wide and condensed hot water on the lid of the carafe leaks out the sides when pouring coffee from the spout. The leaking hot water falls on the table and on the hand of anyone holding a cup under the carafe.

The product, in the report: 2-4 Cup Farberware Electric Percolator
I bought a new 2-4 cup Farberware Percolator from Bed Bath and Beyond in Garden City, Long Island on Merchants Boulevard.(UPC code 3205102243). Other Numbers on the box PK 4000SS, A/W #1498-00, Date code 1117 08 1 000 W 120V 60HZ
Before using, I washed it as per instructions in the manual. While washing the lid, I sliced my finger. The bottom of the lid is so thin and knifelike that it sliced into my finger easily and caused a significant cut. I brought the product back to the store and told them what happened and advised them of the danger present. I believe this product should not be sold as it presents a danger every time the lid is handled. The edge of the lid can easily cut through flesh.
I tried several times to contact the company. The number for Farberware which you can get on line - 800-809-7166- refers you to another number 800-233-9054. I tried this number several times. One time, it put me on hold for an inordinate amount of time and I had to hang up. The second time, it put me on hold and then a mesage in French came on which I did not understand and I did not continue to hold. As yet, I have not notifed the company of their problem with the lid.
I feel this product is not safe to the consumer and should be addressed. Although the cut on my finger healed, I could have been worse and lids present a danger.

The product, in the report: Farberware 12-cup12 Programmable Coffee & Tea Maker Model CM3000S
I purchased two different Farberware 12 cup coffee and tea makers. The carafe on both leaked as I poured hot coffee, spilling hot coffee down the front of the carafe, once on my shoes, the second coffee maker I poured over the sink to see if it would do the same. It leaks around the black hard plastic seal on the front of the carafe carafe. I purchased the first coffee maker at a Wal-Mart in St. Roberts, MO, and the exchange was done at a Wal-Mart in Columbia, MO.

The product, in the report: Farberware Electric percolating 12 cup coffee pot model FCP412G
This is the second time that my Farberware coffee pot has had a catastrophic failure. The first incident happened on January 30, 2009. I plugged in my Farberware superfast fully automatic 12 cup coffee pot into a GFI protected circuit - the consequence of which was an electrical explosion. One of the male connectors in the base of the unit separated from its insulated mounting and was pressed back into the base. That caused the a direct short when plugged into my outlet.
This first incident was to was “Farberware Superfast Fully Automatic” model number FCP 280 with the date code of 97 1105. I made an immediate report to the CPSC and initially retained the destroyed GFI and coffee pot.
After some period of time, after not having heard from the CPSC, I packaged up the unit and sent to Underwriter Laboratories for failure analysis. The implication of their analysis was that the coffee pot had been submerged and was corroded as a consequence of having been underwater. This was not the case as my spouse and I have been the sole owners and users of that coffee pot from the inception. We NEVER immersed the coffee pot. A visual examination of the insulation piece that separated male side of the plugs at the base of the pot had cracked and separated such that it no longer held one side of the pin. That is, it was a mechanical failure that allowed for this direct short having nothing to do with the UL allegation that an immersion was involved.
After that incident, we purchased a replacement coffee pot model FCP number 412G. This one has failed in much the same way. It is marked “QC passed” and 102 EE is embossed on its base. I do not see a date code on it. However, there is a stamping on it that says 102 EE.
On November 4, 2011, this reaplacement coffee pot also tripped the GFI; however it did not explode like the first incident. There is obviously a dead short in this one too.
I suspect that the replacement Farberware Coffee Pot suffers from a similar defect in design as the original one. This time I am not sending it to UL for their failure analysis but will hold onto it assuming that you would have an interest in examining it.

The product, in the report: electric coffeepot (superfast)
Since Farberware changed their electric coffeepots to a 3 prong plug, it continuously pops my GFI breaker. I have exchanged the pots in the store 3 times and the manufacturer has sent me a new pot. I have had my GFI switch changed and it still happens. I bought a different brand of electric coffeepot, also with a 3 prong plug and it works fine. This has been going on over a year. I have given up on Farberware but I feel this is a serious defect and should be reported. My electrician says it is a problem with the coffeepot. I purchased the pots origionally at Bed Bath and Beyond and the manager there said they are getting alot of returns.
