The product, in the report: Calphalon Stainless Steel 12 Cup Coffee Maker Model HE121CMG

Purchased Calphalon Coffee Maker Model HE121CMG at Bed Bath and Beyond October 2013 and on May 19, 2014 I heard an odd rattling noise coming from kitchen. I noticed that the glass coffee pot was shaking and the coffee in the pot was boiling. Within seconds smoke starting coming from the coffee maker and it smelled of burning rubber. I quickly unplugged the coffee maker from the electrical outlet. Smoke continued to emit from the maker and it was so hot that I needed a pot holder to lift it. The coffee maker appeared to have caught fire inside. If I had not been in the next room I suspect that it would have burned my counter and possibly started an electrical fire in my home. I attempted to return it to Bed Bath and Beyond with an explanation as to why. They stated to me that the product had been discontinued, but not recalled. This seemed very suspicious to me so I called CPSC and they told me of other similar reports. I hope this my report is helpful and that Calphalon recalls this coffee maker as it is a serious danger to any consumer that buys it!!!

The product, in the report: Calphalon Coffee Maker Mod: HE121cmg Estimated build date: 37th week of 2012 (Ser#?: 3712b) 12 cup coffee maker; Stainless steel finish; 12 cup glass carafe

Calphalon Coffee Maker - Mod:HE121cmg - Build Date: 37th week of 2012 (3712b) This model of coffee maker has failed on us twice. First unit just would not turn on after three months. Retailer (Bed Bath & Beyond) replaced the unit. Second unit operated for less than nine months. Second unit brewed coffee morning of 5/29/13 and we took our first cup into living room. About ten minutes later we heard popping sounds from kitchen and upon investigating found coffee in carafe boiling the remaining coffee and smoke emitting from coffee maker unit. Unplugged unit and took outside, perhaps none too soon as the unit was very hot and we speculate was ready to catch fire. Called Calphalon and they are sending shipping tag to us to return unit for refund, as we clearly do not intend to consider another unit from them. Calphalon representative mentioned that there have been known issues in both scenarios their staff has been aware of and are investigating and is why they want unit back.

The product, in the report: coffee maker - Calphalon 1800470 Quick Brew 12-Cup Coffee Maker

We had purchased the Calphalon coffee maker (HE120CMG - http://store.calphalon.com/calphalon-electrics-12-c-quick-brew-coffee-maker/407384) about 6 months ago, and yesterday morning, it started on fire. We believe it had something to do with the heating element. It started smoking (and crackling) from inside the machine and billowing from the back of the machine where the cord enters the base.
