    The product, in the report: Bonavita Metropolitan 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Brewer

    I have the following coffee maker from Bonavita: the Metropolitan 8-cup one-touch coffee brewer. Over the past few days, I have smelled something off with the coffee brewer. This morning there was a stronger smell smell and smoke. I unplugged the machine and when I went to investigate, I grabbed the side of the machine and felt a burning sensation on my hand which was the exposed wire. My husband then took a flashlight to further see what had happend and you can see that the wire melted through the outer casing/side of coffee maker. I [REDACTED] and there are currently no recalls however this is very dangerous as it is an extreme fire hazard and it clearly burned from inside to outside of the machine. I am concerned as I have been using and drinking the coffee made out of this machine — uncertain if I ingested any harmful chemicals. I have sent an email to Bonavita informing them of the issue as well.

    I was washing the carafe of my Bonavita 1800TH gently with a dishbrush, lukewarm water, and soap when the entire glass interior imploded.

    Bonavita BV1800 th carafe exploded while washing cold. This was a violent explosion like a gun shot. Glass flying around. This is a known problem but they do not respond to me email. Below is a separate complaint I found after the incident

    Coffee carafe (“Bonavita BV1800TH 8-Cup Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe”, purchased 12/2013, though only used since February 2015) was being washed in lukewarm water, with soap and brush. Carafe/coffee was cold - had been out all day. While washing, my husband heard a pop, like a gunshot, and the interior carafe glass coating exploded in shards. Some of it came out, most landed at bottom of the carafe. No injury, but great potential for injury - shards could have popped up into my husband’s eyes. After googling it, it is a repeated & common issue with others. Apparently, Bonavita does not take care of the issue for consumers, but I think it should be recalled.

    The product, in the report: Bonavita Thermal Glass Carafe Coffeemaker

    I was rinsing out my Bonavita Glass Carafe with warm water when it suddenly exploded with glass shards. The carafe was last used at 10 am that morning and it was being washed out after the dinner dishes at 7:15 PM.

    No brush or other item came into contact with the inside of the carafe. Luckily, my face was turned away when the explosion occurred. The carafe was the last item in the sink and it was sitting by itself with only the water inside the carafe, the sink did not contain water.

    I own a Bonavita 1800 Glass Carafe Coffee Maker. I have had 2 separate incidents as of today where, after brewing, I have tried to insert the carafe cap onto the carafe. (The design of this coffee maker is such that the brewing basket sits directly on the carafe and is removed after brewing is complete.) On the 1st incident, I was attempting to put the cap on the carafe and it pushed all the way through into the brewed coffee. I did not experience an injury but had to retrieve the cap out of the hot coffee. On today’s incident, I was attempting to put the cap in place and it again pushed through into the coffee. This time my hand went in with the cap and submerged up to my wrist (I had brewed a full 8 cup carafe). Coffee splashed over my clothes, the counter and the floor. My hand suffered burns equivalent to a sunburn, especially at my wrist. I took photos of my hand, my clothes and the cap inside the carafe. Thankfully, the carafe did not break as I could have also have broken glass and possible cuts.

    The product, in the report: Bonavita Coffee Maker BV1800TH - Thermal Carafe Automatic Brewer Stainless steel thermal glass carafe with automatic coffeemaker

    We had exploding glass in the thermal carafe. I read many good reviews of the Bonavita coffeemaker with the stainless steel thermal carafe and ordered it. We used it almost three weeks. While washing it exactly as described by the manufacturer - just swishing it out with lukewarm water, the thermal glass exploded in my partner’s hands and face. Glass went everywhere. I had read isolated incidents of this on the Internet but once it happened I found more than one Web site that has several instances of this. Not sure if you have other incidents reported.

    Glass lining of thermal carafe of the Bonavita B1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker exploded (imploded) while being rinsed with warm water. Glass flew out, hitting me and landing a couple of feet away. The carafe was never dropped or damaged in any way. There are numerous other reports of this problem in online reviews, and at least one other recent CPSC report published (20130410-3D5C5-2147457124 ).
