The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 21, 2021, sent to the company Sep 23, 2021, published by CPSC Oct 7, 2021

The product, in the report: Bodum Brazil French Press coffee maker. Glass container in black plastic shell with “7” plastic shaped handle. Amazon number (ASIN) B005NXNDGW Model Brazil, ASIN B005NXNDGW

Handle on my Bodum Brazil French Press detached, when I was pouring from the Bodum into a separate thermos carafe. The Bodum is a 50 oz. glass container, with plastic handle. It was full of 200F water and coffee grounds. Fortunately, there was no injury, since the carafe was tall and was in my sink, so the Bodum glass container tipped against the carafe and there was no serious spill outside the sink. But if I had been pouring the Bodum into a coffee cup on my granite counter, the Bodum glass container could easily have broken, with hot water and coffee grounds spilled all over.

The product, in the report: Bodum Bistro Pour Over Coffee Machine 11001

While operating the machine per manufacturer instructions, I removed the thermal carafe during the brewing process to fill one cup. When I removed the carafe the filter assembly was dislodged by the carafe and the coffegrounds and scalding hot water poured over my right wrist causing major 2nd degree burns. The filter assembly has no safety mechanism to keep it securely in place when removing the carafe, the manufacturer is negligent by not including a safety warning of this danger or providing a safe product. A simple, yet dangerous design flaw. This coffee machine is very dangerous to operate under current design.

The product, in the report: Bodum b.over Coffee Maker

My Bodum b.pour coffee maker is melting the plastic housing when in use. The smell of burning plastic alerted me to this issue. The housing section on this coffee maker is clear plastic, so I can see that the wiring connector on the water heating element is positioned too close to the housing. I think a simple heat shield on the connector will solve this dangerous situation.

The product, in the report: Bodum coffee maker model 11001, date code 5012, makes good coffee, but not safe: the brew basket has no retention feature to keep in position, when I pull the coffee pot out, the basket came out with it and spilled the coffee ground and hot coffee on my hand. I recommend a full recall on this item, or at least adding positive retention, not come out easily with the coffee pot. Pictures available upon request.
