  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 9, 2020, sent to the company Jan 4, 2021, published by CPSC Jan 19, 2021

The product, in the report: Product is the Behmor 5393 Brazen Plus Temperature Control Coffee Maker purchased in April 2018. Model number is GRT1001CM Model GRT1001CM

The reservoir of the Behmor 5393 Brazen Plus Coffee Maker has a heated element that heats the water prior to brewing coffee. I found the coffee maker with the power switch OFF but with the coffee maker producing heat. Upon further investigation, I found that the heating element was activated despite there being no water in the unit and the unit being OFF. The element produces water temperatures of >200º presenting the possibility for an accidental burn. The customer service representative I spoke to was dismissive of the issue and refused to repair or replace the item, instead claiming: “The system heaters are fully encapsulated- any over heating event will kick an error and impossible for any sort of fire” -- Clearly there was no “error kicked” in this instance despite the coffee maker being turned off.
