**INCIDENT DETAILS**
* **Description of the Defect:** The structural design of the coffee maker’s lid/basket area failed during regular operation. The lid became severely jammed and unremovable. When attempting to detach the stuck lid under normal manual force, the structural components catastrophically failed, causing the glass/plastic material to shatter violently under tension. * **Description of the Injury:** The shattering of the jammed lid caused a severe, deep laceration to the consumer’s pinky finger. The structural damage to the hand, including tissue and structural pathway trauma, required immediate emergency medical intervention and subsequent corrective surgery to repair the damage. * **Medical Treatment Received:** Emergency medical treatment followed by formal surgical repair by an orthopedic/hand surgeon.
