The product, in the report: Ninja 10-in-1 Flip Toaster Oven & Air Fryer Model: FT205CO

We have a lip up toaster oven made by Ninja that has recently started turning on by itself, without anyone touching it. In order to avoid the problem, we have to unplug it every time, and only plug it in when it is in use. Searching online, it seems like other people have also reported this problem. This is a real potential fire hazard, since the oven can get quite hot, and if it turns on when no one is around, could start a fire.

The product, in the report: SharkNinja Flip Airfryer Toaster Oven

I had purchased SharkNinja Flip Oven/Airfryer (SP151) in May of 2025. After a few months of regular use, I noticed that time to toast a slice of bread started taking upwards of 8 minutes. I reached out to Shark Ninja (SN) and they wanted me take a photo of the heating element to send it to them, which I did. The heating element clearly appeared blown (turned dark instead of white filament). They said they will respond in a day or two. I followed up with them a few days later. They responded wanting additional information such as S/N, Model Number, and Date Code that is found on one of the pins of the plug. I tried to pulled the plug out of the socket and seemed stuck. I was able to pull the plug with ample force and noticed that plug was fused to the melted electrical socket (the socket had melted around the plug). I reported this to SharkNinja and they sent me a [REDACTED] label to return the product, which I did. I also got my electrical socket replaced. I repeatedly explained to them seriousness of this claim that this product is a fire hazard and could have resulted in a house fire resulting in damage to the property and/or lives (I live in a townhouse).

After many back and forth, they were “pleased” to let me know that they will be paying me the cost of the unit and the cost to repair the electrical socket which I had reported to them with receipts. They want me to fill out a W9 form and want me to sign a blanket release form releasing them and the retailer (name withheld for now). The release also prevents me from discussing this incident to media or anybody else. They continue to insist in treating this as a “settlement” instead of reimbursement.

The product, in the report: Ninja Air Fryer Toaster Oven, purchased new from Amazon on December 2, 2024. Color: Stainless steel with black accents. Model: SP351 Serial Number: S29UW302F2S0 Combination countertop appliance with air fryer, toaster, bake, and broil functions. Includes a crumb tray, air fryer basket, wire rack, and bake pan.

What happened? I purchased a Ninja Air Fryer Toaster Oven from Amazon on December 2, 2024. In July 2025just 8 months laterI discovered significant rust forming inside the cooking area, specifically underneath the heating element tray where food drippings and steam naturally accumulate. The product was used strictly as intended: air frying, toasting, and baking small meals. No harsh chemicals, soaking, or misuse occurred.

This rust poses a food safety hazard because its located where heat, moisture, and food contact happen. Rust particles can break loose during cooking and contaminate food. Ingesting rust can be harmful, especially for children, elderly, or those with compromised immune systems.

When I contacted Ninja, they refused to replace or repair the unit, even though its well within the standard 1-year warranty. Customer service gave conflicting and confusing information:

At first said they could not help.

The next day claimed it was registered but had no warranty.

Suggested bizarre troubleshooting steps like reading numbers off the electrical prongs and doing a video call to prove the damage, despite already having clear photos.

One representative implied the rust was my fault without any evidence.

The unit is still functional but unsafe, and the companys refusal to address a clear material failure leaves other consumers at risk.

Who was using the product? I, an adult, used the product for normal household cooking.

How was it being used? Used per instructionsair frying vegetables, meats, and baked goods. No submersion in water or harsh cleaning agents.

Were there any injuries? No injuries yet, but the potential exists for ingesting rust particles if unnoticed in food.
