The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

We have a recalled item from Oster - while they are aware and notified via press in Sept 2025 about the recall. They still have not fixed the issue. I signed up for the part to be installed. Still nothing as of today. I have called them and told it is a delay in the part. It’s been 5 months and all they can say is don’t use the oven. This is a almost daily use appliance in our home. We stopped using it for several months. We have suffered smalls burns from the item and last week my husband had the doors close on him again - and in the process the tray he was pulling out fell when he jerked burning his stomach - about 3 inches across. Yes - we were told not to use it via the press - voluntary recall - but no remedy in sight. 5 months for a product to sit idle is a long time with a known issue and no remedy in sight. I called today and notified them about the burn - they did not ask for any info - just said I am sorry and we have you on the list to send a part when they come in. I signed up for the part on Sept 26, 2025 and in the email it said the part would begin expected shipping in November.

The product, in the report: Countertop oven

Plug overheated and melted while using the product in it’s air fryer mode set to 375 degrees for approximately 30 minutes. I first noticed that the plug appeared to be misaligned in the socket so I reached to make sure it was fully plugged in, as it did appear to be flush to the wall just not in proper alignment. I immediately felt that the plug was fully pressed against the wall, but was hot to the touch and offered very little resistance to side loads. Thermal imaging then measured the surface temperature of the plug or wire at 171 degrees F. After allowing it to cool, it was apparent that the plug itself had melted and allowed the contacts to float around. The outlet looks like [REDACTED] and appeared absolutely fine. The circuit breaker passed a GFCI test, immediately tripping the circuit when the test button was pressed. Wall mains measured at 117 volts.

The product, in the report: Oster xl 11-in-1 digital French door air fry oven with grill / black

Oster xl 11-in-1 digital French door air fry oven with grill. This is my second unit. The first unit I had to throw away because the electrical cord overheated when I put the unit on Air Fry. The plug started to smoke, and the cord started to melt so I pulled it from the outlet. I will now have to toss the second unit because the electrical cord gets so hot when on air fry that you can not hold you hand on it. I had an electrician look at and he said the unit has the wrong cord. Because of the amps it should have a three wire cord and not a two. The date below is when the first unit got to hot.

I was baking food in my Oster toaster oven. A fire started when my hot pad touched the heating element at the toaster ovens floor.. The shelf is so hard to pull out that I had to get a good grip on it. That was complicated by the fact that all but the oven door handle was hot. In wrapping the hot pad around the shelf, it touched the element and started a fire. Model #TSSTTVMNDG. No injuries.

The product, in the report: Oster TSSTTVCG02 Oster 6 Slice Convection Toaster Oven with Integrated Broil Rack, Brushed Stainless Steel

Oster TSSTTVCG02 Oster 6 Slice Convection Toaster Oven with Integrated Broil Rack, Brushed Stainless Steel. The oven’s mechanical timer dial (lower right knob) is turned clockwise/ right to set for up to 60 minutes, ticking as it turns back to zero/Off position. Or the dial can be turned counter-clockwise/left to “Stay On”. The timer has failed so that the dial keeps turning counter clockwise from any set time, right past zero/off, in to the “Stay On” position. If manually turned counterclockwise to Off, it no longer stays there and remains off, instead begins to turn toward the “Stay On” setting. Like other posters with similar models, I first thought this was my error until I observed and tested. The oven can stay on past set time, indefinitely, and can turn itself on without residents knowing about it. The indicator light is off unless heating to set temperature, so user may not know the oven is not actually off. This is a fire and smoke hazard in addition to ruining food and wasting electricity. In prior reports for similar models the maker has stated this is not a defect or hazardous. It clearly is a design flaw and an untended hot countertop oven is hazardous. The oven should have a failsafe against the timer dial moving from or past the Off position on it’s own.

The product, in the report: Oster brushed steel convection counter top oven. Approx. 18”W X 10”H X 12”D

My wife was cooking cube steak in this counter top oven and went to close the oven ‘s door, which has no stops so it was resting on the counter top, her hand slipped and contacted the metal surround on the oven door. She experienced 1st degree burns on her left thumb, web space, and index finger. In my opinion, the entire oven is unsafe due to poor design in that there few areas on this oven that don’t get very hot when in operation. An elderly person, a child, or a disabled person could easily be severely burned by touching this product. There seems to be little, if any, insulation surrounding this product as all surfaces get very hot during operation.

Took out of the box today (8 Dec 2021), when plugged in and turned off the oven initialized several times ( went from all lights off to just needing to hit the “start” button to air fry at 400F for 25 minutes) on its own without any human intervention. While set to bake at 350F it repeatedly switched to air frying at 450F without any human intervention. Several times it was completely unresponsive to the buttons on the front and had to be unplugged to “reset” it. Metal around button panel was hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch for more than a couple seconds.

The purpose of this letter is to notify you of a serious safety issue with the Oster Extra Large Countertop Oven (Model TSSTTVDGXL) and to request compensation for a recent loss. On May 7, 2021 we purchased the Countertop Oven at Target in Malvern, PA. Approximately two weeks later, on May 23, the glass door on the oven spontaneously exploded with small pieces of hot glass shooting across our kitchen while two children played nearby. The glass pieces were so hot that they leapt and popped across the floor for nearly fifteen minutes. This event occurred after I cooked asparagus in the oven at for a short period, turned off the oven, and unplugged the power cord from the outlet. There were no signs of chips, cracks, or other damage when the oven was purchased. We seek (1) compensation from Sunbeam Products, Inc. in the amount of the cost of the oven, which was $127.19 ($119.99 plus 6% PA sales tax) plus return shipping costs, and (2) an investigation into the manufacturing process of the glass oven door to protect other consumers. Respectfully,

In May 2021, the toaster oven started turning on by itself.

There is a knob on the bottom left of the toaster, which can operate the toast (timer) feature or activate the bake (continuously on) feature.

When the knob is turned to the left, that’s the toast feature. Sometimes, when the toast feature is finished, the knob will keep turning and switch to the “on” or “bake/cook” setting. This started happening last week and has occurred multiple times, but the consumer has been in the kitchen and was able to turn it off.

5/17/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer to report this problem, but their phone system indicated that they were short staffed due to Covid and referred him to another extension in the system. That 2nd extension, referred him to their website.

This toaster oven has had many reports of a timer that after counting down to zero, turns itself on again, causing a possible fire hazard or possible injury to a consumer. I had this particular issue with this unit, and even after the warranty had expired, the company sent me a new unit. Unfortunately, after some time, I had the exact same problem with the replacement unit.

I was baking French fries at 400 degrees for approximately 16minutes. I had just gotten plates off the shelf close to/under the counter the oven was sitting on. I had just stepped away to place the plates on the table when I heard the counter top oven door “explode”. I turned to see glass falling and the handle laying across the floor. Glass shattered everywhere as far as 6 feet away from the front of the oven. Thankfully no one was standing in the vicinity of the oven and glass.

This morning, my brother was heating some left over food in our 2 year old Oster countertop oven and halfway through the 20 minutes heating process we heard a loud boom in the kitchen. When we ran over, we discovered the glass door had shattered outwardly and the door handle had landed some 3+ feet across right into the kitchen sink. It was a good thing that no one had been standing in the kitchen, but we had never heard of exploding oven doors. The glass had shattered into shards all over on the kitchen floor in various directions. I have reached out to Oster and am awaiting a response at this time. It was a very scary and unexpected incident, and I am so thankful that my kids were not around the kitchen when this happened..

The product, in the report: Oster brand Toaster/Oven model #TSSTTVMNDG, 6-slice counter top oven

I purchased an Oster Toaster/Oven, model #TSSTTVMNDG, from Amazon around January 21, 2019. Upon first use several things became evident. When Broil or Bake is selected there is no indication when the oven has reached the desired temperature. The indicator immediately goes to 450 or 350 degrees but the unit is cold and beginning to warm to the desired temperature. There’s no way to tell when to insert the pan to begin cooking. When the desired temperature is reached the unit shuts off unless a time is manually set which must include the time to reach the correct temperature (an estimate) and the approximate time to cook the item which, of course is an unknown factor. The dangerous part of the unit is the rack upon which a pan is set. It’s tapered toward the back of the unit. When pulled out to check the done-ness of the meat, it tilts down unexpectedly toward the open door potentially spilling the contents of the pan on the person using the unit. There’s no support for the tapered part of the rack. I notified Oster about the problems. They sent a replacement with the same problems and I’ve been emailing them since trying to get a return authorization and refund.

Oster toaster oven while set on the convection bake mode continued to heat on the highest heat setting, all 4 electrodes powered on, even when the heat setting knob was turned to a much lower heat setting and the mode knob was changed to one of the other 3 modes (Warm, Broil, Toast). The food dish being prepared actually burned on the top of the food being cooked after 10 - 12 minutes on a heat setting of 350 F. In addition, the toaster oven got so hot one of the plastic knobs, the middle heat setting knob, actually melted where the plastic knob attaches to the metal stem, and fell off the toaster oven. It appears to me that there may have been a malfunctioning thermostat allowing the oven to overheat.

The oven continued to heat on full even when the heat mode knob was turned to zero. I was able to turn off the oven by turning the timer knob to zero.

This toaster oven has never been damaged or dropped or exposed to water.

I have unplugged the toaster oven and do not plan on ever utilizing this unit again.

Less than one year old Oster counter top toaster oven. This is a replacement for the similar model that had a problem with getting stuck in the broiler setting. This am while using to bake a potato the plastic handle on the door melted and fell off when I tried to open the door. I had noticed a slight burning odor but was not aware of the source being the toaster. This is a potential fire hazard. Plastic parts mounted against a glass door on the front to front of the toaster. It had not crossed my mind until this happened. Had we not been close this could have potentially started a fire under cabinets if it had gone on much longer.

This toaster oven does not have very well defined off location on the dial. The first time I found the oven on after I thought I turned is off, I assumed I turned the dial too far to the “stay on” position. My son used the toaster oven and later found it on and very hot. Everyone in the household was cautioned about turning the dial too far to the stay on position. Then the toaster was found on two more times long after it was used. The toaster oven is turning itself on from what is labeled “0” (zero) on the timer dial. This is extremely dangerous given how hot the toaster oven gets.

The product, in the report: Oster Model TSSTTVSKBT Toaster Oven; apparent build date of 05 10 (did not receive email back from Oster confirming that the sticker was in fact a date code). It is a 6 slice toaster/convection oven meant to sit on counter. The handle is attached to door glass.

Just after closing the door on my Oster Convection Toaster Oven, I was just to the right of it and the glass door exploded. While the door appears to be tempered glass, the force of the failure sent the metal handle and pieces of glass off of the countertop. There was glass spread over several feet of my kitchen and counter top. I discovered today that pieces had flown into the open peanut butter jar 8 inches to the right of the toaster oven (discovered when I went to make a sandwich). While this toaster oven is about 8 years old, it seems extremely dangerous that it would have such a forceful failure. I first swept up the pieces, then used a sweeper to go over the areas, and finished with a [REDACTED] (wet mop pad). However, I ended up with a very small sliver in my foot later in the day. I used the [REDACTED] 4 more times to ensure that no shards remain. It is disconcerting that not only did the glass fail in such a way, but that it left tiny pieces in addition to the fairly dull larger pieces.

There are three causes: 1. The handle is too close to the door; 2. As you lower the door with the handle, the metal pole that the handle is attached to rotates, causing your finger to rotate towards the hot door. 3. As there is no insulation on the oven door, it becomes hot enough to cause second degree burns after even a brief touch.

The product, in the report: oster countertop oven Model TSSTTVSK02

Hello. I own an approximately 3 year old Oster 6-slice countertop oven, model TSSTTVSK02. During the past 6-9 months, this oven has gone on by itself at least 3 times. One time it was on when we returned from an afternoon out.The last time was about 3-4 weeks ago. I walked into the kitchen, noticed the light was on and it was hot. Walked into living room, asked the wife why it was on and she replied that she had not turned it on. This had previously happened at least twice before so we normally always take the plug out but with the holidays it obviously was still plugged in. Obviously, having an appliance go on, especially a countertop oven heating up to whatever it was previously set at- who knows, 400 degrees- when no one is home is completely unacceptable and a fire hazard. If it happens once, okay, maybe my mistake. Twice, hmmmmm. Third time, whoa, I know I’m not crazy. Our only problem was forgetting to unplug it after the last use. I tried reaching out to Oster, apparently the parent company is Jarden Consumer, on Dec. 19th but have yet to receive any kind of reply. I’m not even looking for a refund or replacement of any kind. Just wanted to warn anybody who will listen that this can be a serious problem. Maybe this is an isolated incident and if so that is good and I will dispose of it properly. But I will be looking forward to your reply to see if this has happened before.

Oster toaster oven. After finishing time set, Timer returns to 0 and shut off heating elements but continues to “Stay On”. Once it stops at “Stay On” it turns on the heating elements again and keeps them on. Only way to turn off heating elements is to unplug the cable. This is extremely dangerous.

The product, in the report: 6 slice toaster oven

The toaster oven has a timer knob that has settings for 0, which is off, 1-60 which is on and stay on. To use, the knob is to be turned to a number or to stay on and then back to 0. This week I noticed that my unit spontaneously turns itself back on. The knob will go to 0 and after a minute or so the knob will turn itself backwards to the stay on mode. That means, the toaster stays on permanently with no shut off option. It is an extreme fire hazard.

I bought an Oster countertop oven model TSSTTVXLDG-003 at Walmart

There is no safety stop in the oven rack. As a result, when I tried to pull the rack out just a bit to remove a dish I was baking, the entire rack slid out and the hot dish landed broken at my feet.

There is also no safety stop built into the oven door hinge. If you open the door, it drops to the counter and as the oven is rather large, it hits the glass door onto the countertop edge.

Used our Oster Toaster Oven model # TSSTTVFDXLPP-033 to cook dinner last night. Meal appeared ready 2-3 minutes before timer was to shut off unit so I manually advanced the timer to the stopped position and unit shut down. What I did not immediately notice was that the timer continued to “tick” (mechanical timer). After dinner I found the timer had advanced the control knob to the “Stay on Continuous” position and the oven was reheated to 425F. I returned the knob to the OFF position and again it went to the continuous on position. I have tried numerous different settings of the timer and non make the timer stop at the off position, continues to the continuous on setting. This unit is a little less than 1 year old. After this occurred I searched the web and found other reviews mentioning this problem back in 2015. Jarden Consumer Solutions is not open on weekends so will report this to them Monday. Fortunately we did not go out after dinner or we could have returned to a sad story with a house burned to the ground. Have never seen a timer like this before where the continuous on setting is not at the same end as the maximum time setting eg. you go to 60 min. then slightly more to achieve the continuous on setting.

I purchased an Oster toaster/convection oven about 6 months ago. I made toast yesterday, and shut the unit off. The timer dinged and the power light went off. When I went back into the kitchen 15 minutes later, walked by the oven and felt heat. The timer dial had rotated to “Stay On” and the unit had turned itself on. I could hear faint ticking of the timer. Turned toaster oven back on for 5 min., watched lower knob, it shut the unit off, yet continued to tick, it moved the knob to stay on and turned the unit back on. I notified Oster via online yesterday. their response was that “they would contact me within 3 days”.

I was opening the toaster oven by the handle and felt immense pain on my hand. Apparently, there is a metal strip at the top of the glass toaster door right where my hand would naturally be while using the handle. This metal is not insulated from heat and extends into the toaster over. The metal strip was extremely hot and I suffered burns to the top of my hand just below the middle knuckles. The most severe burn was on my middle finger and caused a redness and pain for several days.

The consumer placed a frozen biscuit in the toaster oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Approximately ten minutes later, the consumer heard a loud noise coming from the kitchen. When the consumer checked, he noticed the toaster oven door had blown off, with shattered glass everywhere in his kitchen floor, and some as far as his living room floor. The consumer immediately unplugged the toaster oven; the frozen biscuit had yet to defrost.

07/10/2017 - The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him they would send him a shipping label so he can send the toaster oven back so they can investigate the matter.

The consumer indicates that the same thing happened with a second toaster oven he purchased for his daughter several years ago.

The consumer is unsure if he is going to keep his toaster oven for at least the next thirty days.

i purchased this toaster oven a couple years ago and today the bottom timer that you turn for timing up to 60 minutes dinged as though shut off and did shut off but the timer very faintly continued to tick and move the dial to the left and it went to stay on and it remains on. i discovered this about 2 hours after i had made a toaster waffle. i thought perhaps i did it by mistake, so i deliberately turned it on for 5 minutes and waited, sure enough it shut off, continued to tick and the dial moved by itself to the stay on indicator. if i had not been home, my house would have burned down. this is a terrible safety issue, i noticed on your site, the file20150101-1B05E-2147437113 also has the same complaint. there are probably more out there. please please let oster know. i know this is far off the warranty but someone should know about this dangerous problem

The product, in the report: Oster Countertop Oven model TSSTTVXXLL . It is silver boasts that it can hold a 16” pizza. Has a turbo features and is silver. Sold at Walmart and Sam’s club. Three dials located on the front of the oven.

ITEM Oster Countertop Oven Model TSSTTVXXLL I was cooking chicken cordon blue - (Frozen prepared version from [REDACTED]) on a flat pizza type pan. I had preheated the oven. Once the oven hit the desired temperature - I inserted the chicken on the pizza pan and set the timer to the appropriate cook time - about 36 minutes (well past the 20 minute point). When it was done cooking. I removed the product from the oven. Moved the timer counter clockwise to the zero point. The red light indicates the oven is off. Later while dining - I mention that I think I hear the oven running. We check - the oven is hot and on. My husband moves the timer back to zero and comments that he didn’t hear the bell ding. He twists it past the 20 minute point and back to off - no bell. He turns off the oven. Later we hear the oven running. We check and the oven is on again. We fuss with the timer again - past the 20 minute point going clockwise then back to zero (no bell ding).... then we notice that when we move it to zero - no bell dings, but the oven is off, you can still here the timer ticking though...... and it is slowly working it’s way to the ALWAYS ON position and it turns the oven on again. We reset the oven to zero (past the 20 min and back to zero) ... oven is off ..we watch it as it continues to tick and turn it self on again.. to the ALWAYS ON position. We move it to zero, unplug it.... plug it back in 10 minutes later - same problem. We unplug it and go to bed for the night. The next morning. We twist it past 20 minutes in a clockwise manner, then roll it back to zero (no bell ding) plug it in and yep the timer is ticking and slowly as time passes... it moves to the ALWAYS ON button and it is on again. Repeated a couple other variations but inevitably it turns itself back on if it is plugged in. In my opinion, this is a huge fire hazard.

Toaster Oven had erratic toasting behavior, usually toasted too much in its previous usage. The last time used the oven was turned the off setting, but continued to heat anyway. When re-entering the kitchen I witnessed the handle of the oven began to melt away from the door and caught the handle before it was able to reach the countertop, immediately unplugged the unit and removed it from service.

The product, in the report: Lightly used, well cared for. The timer bell quit working and then I discovered that the unit turns itself on. I found one report in your files from 2013, the year I bought the unit, but when I check the web this model is still for sale. It is ridiculous to allow a timer switch that turns a heating appliance on by itself after it malfunctions.

The same as incident # 20130224-003CA-2147458488 The ‘off’ position has malfunctioned and after the light goes off, the oven timer continues to run until it reaches the ‘on all the time ’ position and then the oven TURNS ITSELF ON INDEFINITELY. This is very dangerous. Why hasn’t something been done about this ??

The product, in the report: Oster Toaster Oven, Model number TSSTTVCG03. Color: Silver. Purchased at Costco, Brick, NJ

I purchased an Oster Convection Toaster Oven, Model number TSSTTVCG03 from Costco about a month ago. I had purchased a similar one for my mother in the past and thought they were the same.

Last night, we awoke to the smell of burning electrical wire at 4 a.m. We discovered that the oven was still on from dinner the night before. Upon inspection, we realized that the bottom dial, which you turn to set the time for your cooking, had a peculiar and very dangerous feature: If you turn it to the right, you choose the number of minutes it is to run and then it turns off automatically when it hits zero. This is the customary feature on these ovens with dials. However, on this model, to the left of the Zero, there is a “stay on” feature that allows the oven to keep running. Problem is, if you need to manually turn the oven off because you overestimated the time, and you accidentally turn it a hair too far to the left, the oven does not turn off. The ticking sound is so faint or nonexistent that you would never know until you smell burnt wires or your house burns down. This is VERY DANGEROUS and we are lucky to be alive. This is particularly dangerous for older people; the reason I bought this for my mother is because she forgets to turn the toaster off. However, on her model there is a “hard” off -- you can’t turn it left past off because there is a stop feature at zero.

I’m not sure why the “stay on” feature is necessary -- this is a toaster oven not a professional oven so the timer should be required. In this case, the oven no longer works so “stay on” resulted in it burning up after a few hours anyway. However, if I’m missing something and manufacturers want a “stay on” function, then it should be accessed in one of two ways: 1) by a clearly marked additional button; or 2) by having to turn the dial all the way around (one full turn) to access it. The oven should have a hard stop when turned left to zero.

I do want to say that Costco has excellent customer service and will take this back no problem but I am concerned about other stores that sell this and the possibility of people dying in their homes.

The front glass suddenly exploded showering our counter and kitchen floor with glass shards. They narrowly missed my wife and my dog. All the dishes had to be re washed from the drain board that was also hit with flying glass. Just prior to the glass explosion, my wife was looking through the glass to check on the biscuits progress. She had just walked out of range when the glass shattered. She narrowly escaped potential eye injury from this incident. The settings in use at the time were Temperature = 350 degrees F, Turbo convection bake setting, which was appropriate for the items being prepared at the time. Our first use of this product one day earlier proceeded without incident.

I have a “Oster Stainless Steel Oster Toaster Oven” (Online Item #: 13423345) which was bought approximately one year ago. I have had several incidents of “ smoke and burned bread “ during last few weeks which each time I’ve though was due to my error on setting the timer. now, I noticed when I set the timer to 5 or 10 min and start the toaster, after that time is ended the timer automatically moves to “ Stay on” position causing toaster work continuously. even if i remove the bread when the toaster get to Zero position, the timer still moves to “Stay on” and the toaster will be “on” until I manually unplug it . Today while another incident happened , I accidentally touched the toaster which supposed to be “off” and burned my right hand. When I investigated more , I noticed the malfunction . THIS IS A SERIOUS DANGER TO WHOEVER USING THIS DEVICE AND NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION ASAP. THANKS .

It has a glass door with timer and clock. I had the temp set on 300 degrees. I had just looked in the glass door to check bread, turned my back and there was a terribly loud explosion in the kitchen, at first I was so scared could not wonder what exploded turning around the glass door had exploded and like a jet perpulsion blew off the oven. There was charred glass everywhere. I was the only one in the kitchen (I am a senior citizen) and was so glad the grandchildren were not in the kitchen or anyone was at that moment. I still cannot believe how this door blew off and the door just shattered in so many pieces and was in the living room and dining area, we have open concept kitchen. I immediately contacted Oster, and explained what happened. Naturally, they were apologetic, waiting for a label to ship back so they can investigate what caused this. By turning my back I was not hurt. Cut fingers picking up glass but it could have been so much worse if my family was present. Oster has sent me a new updated model so I am using it. I truly do like the product but I am honest I use it with apprehension.

Power reduced to ~4 watts.

The product, in the report: Oster Toaster Oven (metal colored)

The consumer wanted to express his concerns about his toaster oven as the model had smoke pouring out of circuit board. The consumer was in his kitchen and saw the model smoking, he went over to product and placed it outside. The consumer was not harmed or injured and his home was not damaged. The consumer stated that the product is unusable.

The consumer has not called his home insurance company or the fire department. The consumer has not called the firm or the retailer. The product was off before the incident and had not been used for quite some time. The consumer has worked in electronics for years and believes the issue is that similar products, including his, don’t have a mechanical off switch while it is not in use.

The product, in the report: Small oven

The consumer said that his mom was toasting some kind of bread for 2-1/2 minutes and when she finished, she took the toast out the toaster.

A minute or two later, the consumer was about to place his bread in the oven, but when he pulled the door handle it burned his left pointer finger. The handle has a protective cover, but the consumer claims that the cover gets hot when the oven is used. The consumer said that his injury was similar to a 3rd degree burn and it took over a week to heal. The consumer applied some antibiotic ointment to his burn and treated himself at home.

The consumer contacted the manufacture and explained the incident a mfr., rep (name unknown). The mfr., rep told the consumer that they will replace the product free of charge. The consumer got his toaster replaced by the mfr, but the new toaster has the same issues. The model that he received from the mfr. is different than the one that caused his burn.

The consumer believes that the door handle on the toaster is too close to the toaster and this causes the handle to get hot. The consumer said that his mother uses a mitten or heating pad when she opens or closes the oven door. The consumer feels that the toaster’s handle poses a burn hazard due to it design.

I was toasting a tortilla and the toaster oven burst into flames. The unit was closed but flames were leaping out about a foot above and to the sides of the oven. I used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. There was no damage to my home. I am afraid to use this unit again.

Oster toaster oven mod 6295 e157140 8c71 pn-115985. This oven after use, continued to run the timer past the shutoff position. It continued to run and re enegized the circut. Unfortunatly, we had gone outside. When we came in,the kitchen was filled with smoke. We were able to unplug the oven and have replaced it with a different maker. If we had not returned to the house when we did, there is little doubt this unit would have set our house on fire.. I have looked on your website and there are similar complaints about this product. and after seeing what happened, I’m sure there have been house fires because of this product. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Toaster oven with convection, stainless steel.

Toaster oven started emitting a smell and small amounts of smoke about a week before the main incident. We though some food or other foreign material fell into one of the vents on top of the unit. About a week later, my wife was using the unit to heat up some frozen waffles. Smoke and flames were visible from the right side of the unit. It was immediately unplugged and the flames were blown out. I opened the case and discovered the fire was an electrical fire. The main power lead enters the unit and is clamped to several smaller diameter wires. One of these connections overheated and caught the plastic insulating cover over it on fire. The main power lead was against the side of the metal case, so had the plastic totally melted away, it was possible the case of the unit could have become energized.

The product, in the report: Oster 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Model 6293, Color: Black.

During normal use of toaster oven, realized that sometimes the timer would not “ding” (but still turn off oven when it reached zero). The bigger problem is that the timer then continues on PAST zero, all the way until it gets to “Stay On”, at which point the oven turns itself back on again. Luckily, we happened to be in the kitchen when this started happening, and were able to catch that it was back ON, before it had the chance to cause any significant damage. However, it DID leave a scorch mark on the counter backsplash directly behind it. Sometimes the timer works as it should, sometimes not. The toaster oven itself works fine. We just are never sure if it’s going to turn itself back on or not, so we try to remember to unplug it after each use. If left unchecked, this could have been a real disaster!

The consumer says the outside casing gets extremely hot. He says he has burned himself once on it already. He says the product can pose a real danger to children. The consumer says the unit works well it just overheats. The consumer says it overheats everytime he uses it and there appears to be no insulation, he says the outside surface should not be hot enough to burn you.
