The product, in the report: Krups Toaster Oven 1600W, digital, silver metal, black handle and feet, glass door 20-1/2 by 14-3/4 by 10-3/8 inches
Krups FBC4 Toaster Oven will not turn off. Should operate by setting temperature (manually or with one of the presets on the bottom rotary knob) and timer and, at the end of timing, shut off automatically. Now, when unit is plugged in, lower heating elements are energized regardless of being on or what temperature is set. Unplugging the unit is the only way to turn it off however the elements are immediately on if the unit is plugged in again. It does not appear that setting the temperature has any effect, elements seem to be full on without being regulated to the temperature setting. Having heating elements that will not respond to switches or timer is a heat and fire safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Digital Convection Toaster Oven
Toaster oven set to off- Toaster heater elements turn on HIGH by itself, making the outside extremely hot and making the inside smoke heavily. Pushing the STOP/GO button has no affect - toaster must be unplugged to stop the heating. The heater elements turned on with no usage to the toaster that day (by itself and unrelated to any usage).

The product, in the report: Convection toaster oven
We were broiling some fish for dinner with two guests in the toaster oven when we started to smell a strange electrical burning smell. We turned off the broiler and removed the fish, and sat down to eat dinner. However, the smell lingered and when my husband and I went into the kitchen to check the toaster oven, we saw that the heating elements were still red, even though the oven had been turned off. (Normally, the elements stop glowing red almost immediately after turning off the oven.) We tried turning it on and off again, but the elements simply remained on. The only way to turn off the elements was to unplug the toaster, which is of course what we did. The next morning, to see if anything had changed, I plugged the oven back in and immediately the elements started glowing red without my having turned the oven on. My husband then took the oven apart to see if he could identify the problem, but after reading information about the oven online, we found out that you cannot replace the circuit board, which we assume had shorted out. The oven is, I believe, between five and six years old, but this model is still for sale.
This is an extremely hazardous situation -- what if we had left the house thinking the oven was actually off? The potential for burns is also significant --fortunately I was wearing an oven mitt when I took the fish out of the oven. There is clearly something wrong with the wiring in the oven and just brief internet research indicates that other people have had this problem with this model. Krups should recall this model.

Krups Model FBC 213 Toaster Oven originally purchased Bed and Bath 11/25/2008 but replaced for another problem in 2009.
Incident: toasting bread the glass front exploded outwards into small pieces. I would have been blinded if looking at the toaster oven at the time; small glass covered the kitchen floor.

The product, in the report: 6-Slice Convection Digital Toaster Oven with Preset Cooking Functions
On the way to the game tonight, my wife and I toasted some pizza. This time was different though, we shut it off after toasting and it gives a beep signal to know it’s off. But then as the cab arrived, I smell a little smoke. It was coming from our Krups toaster oven! I looked on the front and there were no lights and it appeared to be off. But looking inside the oven, it was blazing hot with the filaments that bright fiery orange. We had to unplug the Krups toaster to turn it off, pushing the buttons had no effect.
As we jumped into the cab, all I could think about was what would have happened to our helpless cat and dog had our house caught on fire. Not to mention the other tenants in the house. Very disconcerting to say the least.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
We placed two slices of break on the lower rack of the appliance and set it to toast at level 5. A few seconds later, the display was filled with gibberish and the heating elements remained at their highest setting. All buttons were unresponsive and we had to unplug the device to stop the thermal runaway.
Incident occurred a few times this week with a variety of settings and food contents. Appliance was only plugged in when in use and operated per manufacturer instructions.
There appears to have been many reports for this problem on this site and throughout the Internet. I checked for a recall of this appliance before submitting this report, and was very surprised to have found no recall information.

The product, in the report: Convection toaster oven
Toasting bread, when I noticed it was starting to burn. The display was frozen displaying “----“, and the top burner was stuck on. All the controls on the front were frozen, and the only way to shut it off was by unplugging it. The last few days the end cycle beeper was sounding strange, and led up to this. I am afraid it could have caused a fire.
This is the second time this unit has done this. Previously it did it within a couple of months of purchase. I will be discontinuing use permanently. From my research on the web, this is not a unique problem with this line of toaster ovens.

The product, in the report: Krups toaster/convection oven model 571509 REF:FBC213/4GO 1600 watts. 6-slice capacity. Convection Baking Function circulates heated air around food. Two sets of 3 quartz heating elements. Patented quartz cycling technology. Illuminated LCD control panel. Electronic thermostat Defrost function. Non-stick interior.
Krups toaster/convection oven model 571509 REF:FBC213/4GO. Toaster oven would not shut off after toasting a piece of bread for 3y.o. son. I burned my arm not realizing at first that it didn’t shut off, the upper elements were still on. None of the controls would respond; had to unplug it. I had hoped that unplugging it might ‘re-set’ it. I plugged it back in about 2 minutes later. It was still heating up; woulnd’t shut off at all! Next day, tried again, but still going. VERY dangerous. We have 4 small children. Could have burn the place down and killed someone. After some research, this seems to have been an ongoing problem with Krups. This is not a user error, this is a MAJOR defect! Why haven’t these been re-called already?

No one hurt Made Oct 4, 2011, sent to the company Oct 13, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 27, 2011
The product, in the report: Krups digital convection toaster oven, model FBC412.
Krups FBC 412, Ref 575.04 digital convection toaster oven purchased in December 2008 for regular household use has a small wire in the rear of the unit that shorted out, causing the heating elements to fail. The unit was approximately 12 minutes into the convection baking cycle, with temperature set 400 degrees F when a flame and sparks shot out from the rear vent. The unit continued to run (convection fan and timer) however, the heating elements were not working. No further sparks or flame developed. The failed heating elements and burned wire were not readily evident since the unit continued to run, even when turned off and turned back on. I’m concerned if the defect had gone undetected a fire could have resulted.
I researched product recalls and did not find any. The unit has always been used according to manufacturer instructions.

The product, in the report: Toaster oven, Krups Black Digital Convection Toaster Oven FBC2.
We bought this oven about a year ago. Within four months the digital display on toast went nuts, and stayed on unless it was unplugged. Because it was still under warranty, we paid $50 to ship it for repair. After we got it back, about a month later, I came down in the middle of the night to find that it had TURNED ITSELF ON to full heat. Luckily, I found it before it melted the plastic bowl I had left on top! Now we have a nice, inexpensive [REDACTED] - no digital features, sturdy knobs, and a timer that works.
